Top Implementation Tips for Setup
• Provide Separate Organizations for Maintenance and Manufacturing
- Maintenance and Manufacturing can share an organization but this may present some problems. For
example, the sharing of plant parameters, work areas, work centers and resources. We recommend a
separate Maintenance Organization.
• Use Average Cost for Inventory Evaluation
• Define an Item for each Manufacturer and Model Number combination for Assets
- When adding an asset, asset entry requires an Item. The Asset Item should be a combination of
Manufacturer and Model Number. You cannot update the Item once defined on an Asset; consequently,
the item definition is very important.
• Item Creation in Product Information Management (PIM) for Assets
- Item PIM attributes for an Item to be valid for asset creation
- Specification > Service > Enable Asset Tracking = Full Lifecycle
- Specification > Service > Allow Maintenance Asset = Yes
- Specification > Service > Serial >Generation>Dynamic entry at Inventory Receipt
- (Optional) Associate an image and set it as Primary

Item and Maintainable Asset
• An item is a foundational requirement for the
creation of an asset
• An item is used to create one or many Assets,
providing a common way to group like Assets
• Certain item attributes need to be set before
associating it with an asset
• Once associated, an item cannot be changed in
an asset
• Item association provides an asset with the
ability to perform logistics transactions
Asset Definition enables you to:
• Represent assets for maintenance purposes
• Create and update asset information
- Bulk upload
- Manual
- Automatic
• Search for asset information
• Collaborate using Oracle Social Network (OSN)

Types of Assets
Following are the types of assets:
• Customer Asset: An asset that a customer
owns or has use of. Customer asset can be sold,
leased, or loaned by an enterprise.
• Enterprise Asset: An asset that an enterprise
owns or has use of. Enterprise asset is used in
the operations of a business. It is neither for
sale nor leased to customers.
Note: You can manage and track both customer
assets and enterprise assets; however, the
application enables you to create the
maintenance assets only.

Overview of Meters for Assets
You can create, record, and manage multiple
meters for an asset.
Meters for assets:
• Track the accrued utilization of an asset
• Provide a historical record of an asset’s use or
condition
• Indicate an asset’s condition or requirement for
scheduled or unscheduled maintenance
