PRESENTATION GUIDELINES
Your presentation should:
have clear structure: 1st
slide = title and your name,
2nd
slide = plan/list of points covered by your presentation
contain the appropriate vocabulary (e.g. technical/business )
be interesting to listen to - you could use pictures/ videos
serve just as a helpful visual aid, not draw attention away from you
You should avoid:
speaking for longer than 10 minutes
putting too much text on a slide
– only general ideas, bullet points, no sentences!
reading your presentation from a slide or your notes
– speak, don’t read!
Additional hints:
Practise your presentation at least once before presenting it in class! Measure your
time and ask someone to listen to you and share their impressions
While giving the presentation, make sure your listeners are following what you are
saying – ask them a question from time to time: Is everything clear so far? Are
you following me? Do you have any questions?
Don’t overdo it! Content is always more important than the form. Your presentation
should be more than loads of pretty pictures and fancy effects, don’t let those
elements spoil the effect
Check for hardware malfunctions! If you are using a projector or someone else’s
computer, check your presentation beforehand. This also applies to putting
audio visual aids (film, song) into your slide show – check it first on a different
computer. Always have a backup copy!
