Kieran Harris was born in Shrewsbury, England and grew up without religion. He attended international schools in China, Thailand, the Philippines, and Italy, where he was exposed to Christianity, Catholicism, Buddhism, and religion in general. Though his girlfriend and family were Buddhist and he attended a Catholic school, Kieran now identifies as an atheist due to experiencing different religions over time and traveling internationally from a young age.

The most popular 'topic trending' analyses depend on the investigation of how keyword (or term) usage change over time. Using keyword trends to index topic trends is highly suitable for short-form text, such as search terms, hashtags, or tweets. However, exploring trends in topic prevalence across longer, more free-form texts, such as call center telephone transcripts, is better served by grouping together topically-related words that co-occur. In this talk, we'll show an example of using Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA; Blei, Ng, & Jordan, 2003) in R to group words in call center transcripts into multiword topics over which we explore trends. We’ll also demonstrate the how the use of Structural Topic Modeling (Roberts, Stewart, Tingley, & Airoldi, 2013) can aid in further investigation of how document-level covariates (in this case, additional call- or caller-based characteristics) can affect topic prevalence and topic trends.

Modeling Contextual Information in Session-Aware Recommender Systems with Neural Networks, RecSys 2016 Boston, Bartłomiej Twardowski Presentation for a paper: http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2959162 Abstract: Preparing recommendations for unknown users or such that correctly respond to the short-term needs of a particular user is one of the fundamental problems for e-commerce. Most of the common Recommender Systems assume that user identification must be explicit. In this paper a Session-Aware Recommender System approach is presented where no straightforward user information is required. The recommendation process is based only on user activity within a single session, defined as a sequence of events. This information is incorporated in the recommendation process by explicit context modeling with factorization methods and a novel approach with Recurrent Neural Network (RNN). Compared to the session modeling approach, RNN directly models the dependency of user observed sequential behavior throughout its recurrent structure. The evaluation discusses the results based on sessions from real-life system with ephemeral items (identified only by the set of their attributes) for the task of top-n best recommendations.

Caruthers 1 Caruthers 5 Alice Caruthers Dr. Danita Berg COM 1101 September 25, 2022 Semester Paper While the cause of my brother's behavior may be much deeper than the church he belongs to, this particular church exhibits cult-like tendencies because a significant time commitment is expected from its member. Most of its members joined during a very vulnerable time in their lives. The church is involved in every aspect of your life, from work to your family and everything in between. My brother's church has cult-like tendencies because every member must devote a significant amount of time to its activities and practices. From the 1930s, cults emerged as the object of sociological study from the perspective of studying religious behaviors. In the 1940s, the Christian anti-cult movement started to oppose some sects and new religious movements, terming them "cults" due to their unorthodox beliefs. In the 1970s, the secular anti-cult movement resisted specific groups in reaction to acts of violence committed by group members. These groups, primarily called cults, practiced mind control of their members and linked to strange religious, spiritual, or philosophical beliefs and rituals. Thus, cults remain exploitative, weird groups with uncommon beliefs. Word of Faith Fellowship, located in Spindale, North Carolina, and Remnant Fellowship, located in Brentwood, Tennessee, are some renowned religious-based cults in the United States. The former started in 1979 when Jane Whaley and Sam Whaley converted a former steakhouse into a chapel, while the latter began in 1999 courtesy of its founder, the late Gwen Shamblin. As of 2021, my brother started showing strange behaviors that were out of character for him. In the previous years, I had not noticed strange behaviors from him. We always came to each other for everything and had practically no secrets between us. However, I was shocked after noticing some devastating behaviors such as isolating himself from our family members, seeking validation from the church elders, crossing biblical boundaries of behavior, and emphasizing special doctrines outside the scripture. I found that what started as a staunch Christian had developed into something darker, emerging far from our original upbringing. After a few months, my brother stopped visiting our church and fully embraced his new church. In this new church, he would spend most of his time in church and would return home during late hours even on non service days. On one of the Sundays, the church had convinced my brother to stop pursuing a law degree and instead go into theology, to my surprise he agreed. He went on to switch to a different university and even quit his job per the church’s request. Most of his friends and family who knew him were shocked by the uncommon changes in his personality. Previously, he had an ever extraordinarily extroverted personality, but now he was a complete introvert toward anyone outside of the church. While growing up, I.

The Faith Initiative seeks to help LGBTQ+ youth and their families share their experiences with faith communities by creating opportunities for authentic dialogue between a variety of faith communities, LGBTQ+ organizations, and community members regarding spirituality, family relations, and the LGBTQ+ community. We at HiTOPS know there is a wide array of experiences people hold at the intersection of faith and sexuality. Our organization cares deeply about the lived experiences of queer youth. Over the next several months we will be gathering stories of individual’s experiences to encapsulate the varied narratives of LGBTQ+ youth in New Jersey. Our initiative will seek to hear the experiences of LGBTQ+ youth who are part of an affirming community, LGBTQ+ Youth who are a part of a non-affirming faith community, as well as LGBTQ+ youth who have left their faith communities. We will also seek to hear from faith leaders and straight youth who attend affirming and non-affirming faith communities.
