2. WHAT IS
SOCIAL
MEDIA?
- A modern way to communicate via the
internet
- Express or promote views and identity
- Assists meeting new people, keeping up
with friends, communicating with brands,
arranging or promoting events or sharing files
and photographs.
- Today, we're specifically going to be looking
at how to use social media as a Mentor or
Coach
3. THE BIGGEST
SOCIAL MEDIA
PLATFORMS
Disability Sheffield are looking at expanding
their reach and helping Coaches and Mentors
in new ways through social media.
We're also looking at ways that the Mentor/
Mentee Coach/Coachee relationship can be
improved through social media.
AND the ways that you can learn more about
coaching and mentoring through social
networking.
Lets go over the main platforms...
4. 1. Disability Sheffield Website
- Provide a hub of information
- Trining E-books
- Social media profiles
- Blogs
2. Blog
- Like an on-line diary with magazine-style
articles.
- The Disability Sheffield blog will provide
help and training in bite sized pieces.
- There are thousands of good blogs on-line
about Mentoring and Coaching.
- You could write your own blog, to share your
knowledge and experience.
9. HOW CAN SOCIAL
MEDIA HELP YOU
GET THE MOST
OUT OF BEING
A COACH OR
MENTOR?
- Talk to other Mentors or Coaches as a group,
sharing tips or advice. Either on a Google
Hangout or through Google or Facebook Chat.
- Talk to your Coachee or Mentee through
Google Hangouts, Google Chat or Facebook
Chat.
- Get information about Coaching from other
sectors which you can apply to your own
situation.
- Share your knowledge and experience to
a wider audience (bearing confidentiality in
mind).
- Stay up to date with the latest from
Disability Sheffield and provide your instant
feedback.
- Attend webinars from Disability Sheffield.
10. CONNECTING
WITH OTHERS
Facebook
- Friend requests
- Have to approve request before they can view your
information
- Privacy settings
Google+
- 'Circle'
- Users can circle you, without you circling them and vice
versa.
- You 'allow' people to circle you.
LinkedIn
- Profile not private, users send you 'connection requests'
which you accept to become 'contacts'.
Twitter
- Can privatise your profile so only accepted 'followers' can
follow you. No obligation to follow back.
11. PRIVACY AND
SAFETY
- You can block anyone from seeing your content on
any of these sites.
- If anyone becomes abusive you can report them.
- You are more than entitled to politely ask someone
why they'd like to befriend you.
- As a new user make your profile as private as possible.
- Don't accept friend requests from people who you
have never met or heard of, or have no mutual groups
or interests. Espeshially if they are from a foreign
country.
- Don't put any private information about yourself,
bank details, details of your holiday dates, if you
are alone in the house or are feeling lonely, sad or
vulnerable.
- It's important to have a strong password. Accounts
can easily be hacked as most people in the world tend
to use the same 20 passwords.
12. ETIQUETTE
- It's fine to disagree with people - a lot of
people on the internet are up for discussion
and debate.
- Don't post any racist, sexist etc comments
or violent threats. Anything you 'say' is in text
and could be taken to the police as abuse.
- If you have heard a rumour about someone
do not post about it online. You can be sued
for libel or defamation.
- Be nice :)
13. DISABILITY
SHEFFIELD
WEBINARS
- Webinars is a buzzword from the word
'seminar'
-The host presents a lecture to a small group
of people who can interject to ask questions.

own questions.
