What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Photography
When taking the photos for my magazine, I used two different
cameras, a 14megapixel Fujifilm, and a Cannon Eos 1100D. What I
noticed was that the quality of the photo’s varied greatly between the
two cameras, with the ones from The Cannon Eos 1100D looking far
more effective.
I also discovered that lighting is another factor that makes a big factor,
with outdoor lighting on a sunny day being the most flattering.
Standard indoor lighting looked harsh, but a warm light from a lamp
made my main image on my double page look really effective, and was
flattering for the model I used.

Photo Editing
I used Photoshop to edit all of my photos to some extent, and learnt different techniques whilst I
was doing it. One feature that I found looked particularly effective was changing the curves of the
light. This helped me to create a kind of silhouette effect on my photos where my model is stood
under a bridge, and the way the light comes from behind her looks really effective.
Another technique I found useful was learning how to adjust light balance and contrast to
strengthen the colours of photos. Doing this for one of my pictures under the bridge brought
out green tones in the wall that weren’t noticeable before the editing, and also strengthened
the colour of the graffiti making it look more effective.
Quark
I used the programme Quark to construct my magazine, and used many different tools
within the programme to do this. Something that I found really changed the effect of
my magazine was being able to alter the spacing between letters and the size of the
spaces between the lines.
Another feature I learnt how to do was to change the gradient of boxes, which I used
when creating a puff. I made the box fade from light blue to clear, so that it fitted into
the page more easily without looking to obvious. This makes it look easier on the eye.
Using Quark made it easy to position text and images in the exact position I wanted
them in. The more I used the programme, the quicker I was able to create a picture
box and then make the image and the box correctly sized for each other.
Presentation
I wanted the presentation of my work to be varied, so
used different platforms for different aspects.
I used:
WordPress: to publish my blog
SlideShare: to publish presentations
Prezi: to create and publish presentation style mindmaps
Publisher: to annotate my work
