What have you
learned about
technologies from
the process of
constructing this
magazine?
Adobe Photoshop
By using the Pen tool I was able
to cut around my images and
select their outlines to them
either delete the background or
adjust the texture and dullness of
either the background or the
selected part of the image to
make each part stand out
accordingly.
Using the background eraser tool I was also able to delete the background of my
images and adjust how soft or sharp the edges were against the background so that it
didn’t look too rough. This was particularly helpful when erasing the background
behind the model’s head, as the parts of hair that whisp around her head could still
remain making the image and backgriound fit together more realistically.
When creating my magazine, I used
adobe Photoshop quite frequently as it
made my products look much more
professional and includes various tools
that allowed me to edit my magazine to
the best quality possible.
Adobe Photoshop
The blending options included in Adobe
Photoshop such as a drop shadow have
allowed me to edit photos, shapes and text to
make them bolder, stand out, or more faded
away. Compared to before I had started the
construction of my magazine I have found
that I can use these tools a lot better to create
the best effects on my magazine.
I found that I particularly used the shape tool a lot to draw
various shapes such as a circle for my puff on the front
cover and rectangles for lines and backgrounds on a lot of
texts.
Quark
Quark allowed me to include guidelines into my pages so
that whilst I was creating parts of the magazine, I could
align them properly and make them look more professional.
When making a new document on quark I was able to type
in the number of columns I wanted on that particular page
so that when producing the magazine I could make the text,
images and shapes fit properly together and neat.
As well as many other tools on quark, I particularly used
the picture box tool, this allowed me to draw where and
what size I wanted the image to be and then to choose the
image and move it around so that it was suitably fitted to
the requirements of my magazine.
SLR Cameras
Different types of shots, lighting
Using SLR cameras when taking images to use in my
magazine I found that I quickly picked up how to use
them in a way that would help me get the right lighting,
use different shots and appropriately align them to get the
images that I needed. This was very important as images
were used on every page of my magazine and they had to
look professional and balance out right so that the final
product looked suitable to the genre of the magazine. Also
by having a practice lesson with the cameras very early
on in the course this allowed me to be aware of how I
needed to use the camera and settings to help me get the
best pictures possible.
Presentation websites
and blogs
A range of different presentational websites, font
websites and blogs have been used within my project
to keep all of my ideas and information logged and
organised to convey the stages in which I have taken
out in order to receive my final product.
For example when mind mapping or basing my
ideas I used prezi and slideshare to use carious tools
that enabled me to show my thoughts and ideas
ready to embed them into my work.
I found that dafont was very useful in making my
magazine pages as it enabled me to download different
fonts that were suitable to the genre of the magazine.
Videos
Throughout the project I have had to create a number of videos and add various
stages of my work to my blog to show how each part has progressed. In doing this I
have had to use Youtube, Premier, Windows moviemaker to create vidoes. In doing
so I have learned how to use sound clips and images to put them together and then
finally upload them onto Youtube. Before creating my magazine and blog work I
didn’t know how to do this therefore when adding details to my blog and how I
have created the magazine I have been able to advance my technology skills in
using videos, this helped me to include further information with a larger variety of
technology.
Uploading my work to Youtube and using embed codes onto my blog was also
something I have found out how to do, so that when including my work all together
on my blog it is easy to look through and guide. This is also important when
mindmapping and planning out my ideas within each stage.
