Question 6

  What have you learnt about
technologies from the process of
   constructing this product?
Digital DSLR cameras
This was my first experience with a digital DSLR
camera, and it was good to experiment with the
different settings it had to get the perfect photo.
I experimented with and without using
flash, with taking multiple pictures at
once, getting ‘action shots’, finding the right
camera angles and more.
Adobe Photoshop
I used Photoshop to create my front cover and
learnt a whole new array of tools. I learned
about new fonts and how to install them onto
Adobe applications. I also used useful tools like
cropping, magic wand, colour sampling, and
how to minimalise pixilation in pictures. I also
learned how to create certain effects from text
and use standard magazine conventions such as
a reversed out cover line.
Adobe InDesign
InDesign has helped me learn how to design and
assemble to a degree of accuracy I wouldn’t be
able to achieve on programmes like Photoshop
or Paint. It has also introduced me to (like
Photoshop) new tools and how to format the
background out of a picture, more about text
wrapping and how it is all applicable to the
design and manufacture of a magazine.
Blogging
This project has also introduced me to blogging
seriously. I have found that it is an easy way to
present your ideas and findings in an order
and a design that suits you. It also keeps the
interest in the viewer as it provides so many
different ways of viewing and presenting
different findings that sheets of paper cannot
provide, like being able to link videos straight
onto your blog. It looks sophisticated and
  professional.
The internet
The internet has been a vital part of this project. It
is where you set up your blog to present
everything. Also, the use of Facebook to connect
with my target audience any time 24/7 has made
the project significantly easier and helped an
awful lot. Without the internet, the design of my
magazine would be much different. A lot of the
fonts in my magazine have been downloaded off
Dafont, and without the internet, I wouldn’t have
been able to do the research I did into different
  types of magazines.
Image manipulation
I learnt a lot about how to extract certain
section from images (using magic wand tool)
and about how to format photos and how to
embed them where I wanted. I learned how to
format text to wrap around images at a
certain depth and also how to minimise
   images from pixilation.
