When to use
Present Progressive
Tense of the Verb?
We use the PRESENT
PROGRESSIVE TENSE of the
verb when the action is
happening now or the action
ongoing.
How to form the
present progressive
tense of the verb?
To form the PRESENT
PROGRESSIVE TENSE
of the verb, add –ing
at the end of the verb.
Example:
carry + -ing = carrying
eat + -ing = eating
cook + -ing = cooking
listen + -ing = listening
For verbs ending
with –e, drop the
–e and replace it with
–ing.
Example:
bake + -ing = baking
write + -ing = writing
love + -ing = loving
If the last syllable of the
verb is made up of a CVC
(consonant-vowel-
consonant), double the
last letter then add –ing.
Example:
cut + -ing = cutting
get + -ing = getting
beg + -ing = begging
Begin + -ing = beginning

the Be verbs (am, is or are)
together with the -ing form
of the verb.
1. Cherry is cooking the lunch.
