Prepositional Phrases
2. Prepositional Phrases are phrases which begin with a
preposition.
A phrase is group of words that provides some idea
and they are closely related to each other and
functions as a single unit.
Prepositional phrases function as
adjectives and adverbs.
3. ADJECTIVE PHRASES:
1) I need a house away from the noise of traffic.
2) The invigilator found a slip with some scribbling.
3) An island is a piece of land surrounded by water.
All the phrases italicised and
underlined are not only Prepositional
Phrases but also they qualify the
nouns that precede them. Hence they
are also called Adjective Phrases.
4. Adverb Phrases:
1. The boy talked in a rude way.
2. The lone soldier fought in a brave manner.
3. The demand for setup boxes have been increasing
at a very alarming rate.
Please note all the phrases marked in
italics are Prepositional Phrases and
they modifies the verbs that they
follow, hence they are called Adverb
Phrases.
