1. Study the following sentences: క్రింద ఇచ్చిన వాకాాలని పరిశీలించిండి.
a) Morning I got up late so I reached my office late.
ప్రొ దదు నన ఆలస్ాింగా లేచానద అందువల్ల నేనద ఆఫీస్ క్ ఆలస్ాింగా చేరానద.
b) As I have to reach my office in time, I purchased a vehicle.
నేనద ఆఫీస్ క్ స్మయానిక్ మ ిందదగా చేరవలసి ఉంట ందని నేనద పొయాణ సాధనానిన కొనాననద.
c) Because you didn’t complete your homework, you go outside the class and complete it.
నదవవు కాా స్ బయటక్ వెళ్లా నీ హిం వర్క్ పూరిి చేయి ఎిందదకింటే నదవవు పూరిి చేయలేదద.
d) Now that you are grown up, you can take care of yourself.
నదవవు పెదు వాడివయాావవ అందువల్ల నీ బాగోగ లు నదవవు తీస్దకోగలవవ.
In above sentences one clause proposes reason or cause and the other clause proposes effect.
పెై వాకాాలలో ఒక ఉపవాకాిం కారణానిన, రిండో ఉపవాకాిం ఆ కారణిం యొక్ ఫలతానిన తెలయజేస్ది నానయి.
Sentence (a) is a compound sentence as we joined both the senences with a coordinating
conjunction ‘so’. The clause that proposes effect follows the coordiating conjunction ‘so’.
Sentences (b) is a complex sentence as we joined both the sentences with a subordinating
conjunction ‘as’. The clause that proposes the reason follows the subordinating conjunction ‘as’.
Sentence (c) is a complex sentence as we joined both the sentences with a subordinating
conjunction ‘because’. The clause that proposes the reason follows the subordinating conjunction
‘because’.
Sentence (d) is a complex sentence as we joined both the sentences with a subordinating
conjunction ‘now that. The clause that proposes the reason follows the subordinating conjunction
‘now that’.
Rules for converting a sentence from one type to other:
1. From complex to compound:
Remove subordinate conjunction (because, as, since etc.) and add a coordinate conjunction
(so, therefore, consequently etc.) to the clause that proposes the effect.
2. From compound to complex:
Remove coordinate conjunction (so, therefore, consequently etc.) and add a subordinate
conjunction (because, as, since etc.) to the clause that proposes reason or cause
