Preeminent Court Case
This examination paper talks about and breaks down the choice of the United States Preeminent
Court in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989) and the resulting open discussion concerning
whether and under what circumstances state governments and the central government might
naturally deny the copying or other profaning or mutilation of the American banner. By its choice in
Texas v. Johnson and its later managing in United States v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990), the
Preeminent Court has successfully decided that administration may not bring criminal arraignments
against people who smolder or profane the American signal inasmuch as they are in this manner

This past weekend witnessed a trifecta of momentous anniversaries. Katrina happened 5 years ago,
Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream Speech" on the Washington Mall 47 years
ago, and Mother Teresa was born a century ago.
Monday: Katrina; Tuesday: "I Have a Dream;" Today: Mother Teresa
After spending a great deal of time on and devoting a good deal of space to the two previous
subjects in this series on recent anniversaries, 2005 's devastating Hurricane Katrina and the world–
changing 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I had looked forward to
writing an innocuous, little piece on one of the two saints I have ever known.
Pope John Paul II was one, Mother Teresa was the other.
Not that I personally met with either the pope or the Catholic nun Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, later to
be known as Mother Teresa, but I felt that a few words commemorating the anniversary of her birth
in Shkoder, Albania on August 26th, 1910 were in order.

Led Zeppelin's Black Dog Analysis
Explorations in Music
Music Analysis
Led Zeppelin's Black Dog from their fourth album Led Zeppelin IV, is arguably one of their most
distinct and instantly recognisable songs. Led Zeppelin bassist, John Paul Jones was supposedly
inspired by Muddy Waters' 1968 album Electric Mud. XXX He longed to write a song which
incorporated "electric Blues with a rolling bass part," and "a riff that would be like a linear journey".
The following piece will analyses Led Zeppelin's Black Dog oi a number of ways. Starting with

It is unquestionable the Led Zeppelin have influenced many great artists throughout the years. Their
powerful legacy and inspirations can be seen in the work of many great musicians. Red Hot Chilli
Peppers, Metallica, Madonna, Alive Cooper, Guns 'n Roses are just some of the band the Led
Zeppelin had a profound influence on. XXX As Brian May from Queen said, "I'm the world's
biggest Led Zeppelin fan. The music, the way they conducted themselves, their whole management

In terms of society and musically, Led Zeppelin are credited as the inventors of the heavy metal
genre. They were the forerunners of a style of music that would captivate society and guide a
generation.
"They were as influential in that decade as the Beatles were in the prior one. Their impact extends to

Long Lost Family
Several seasons back, there was a program on one of the cable television stations entitled "Long
Lost Family". The premise of the program was to reunite family members who had been separated
for many years, sometimes decades, to make a family "whole" again. Sometimes the story was about
parents and children lost through adoption or custody situations. Most frequently, it was about
siblings who, because of family feuds or other dysfunctions, had been apart for many years.
Sometimes other siblings had polarized around the two who were separated, causing increased
tensions and rifts. Interestingly, many times the true cause of the rift as lost to time and memory.
Frequently, it came down to miscommunication and pride, a form of standing ground to not appear
weak or guilty. Through the intercession of the host of the program, the separated siblings would
communicate, have an opportunity to explain or make amends, and then reunite. At the end of the
program, the producers would post an update on how well the reunion and rebuilding of family ties
was progressing. It was always clear that rebuilding of the family ties would take time and effort on
both sides.
The analogy of disconnected family members is used frequently in the discussion of the centuries
long rift between Catholics and Jews. It is apt. For, in the 50 years since the promulgation of Nostra
Aetate by Pope Paul VI, Catholics and Jews have come far in healing 2,000 years of
miscommunication, false pride,

Senior Theology Honors
18 November 2011
Mr. Lace Trimester Final Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, A. North Whitehead, Monsignor Luigi
Guissani, and Charles Hartshorne have contributed significant bits of Theology as the Roman
Catholic Church, perhaps a century late, has finally come to a difficult crossroads about the creation
of the world: Should the Vatican alter (no pun intended) modify Church Dogmas, which are
infallible snippets of doctrinal teaching, or ignore rapid scientific finds that have eroded the
Church's belief that God created one man and one woman. These men, who study Theology,
Physics, Theology, and Philosophy, respectively, provide scientific basis on why the Catholic
Church must adapt a Theology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unfortunately, there is no proof for the alleged Creator. It is important, however, to acknowledge
that Science has not disproved God either. Science has further discounted the Church's teaching that
Adam and Eve existed with artifacts of animals, many of which have human characteristics, existing
thousands of years before the appearance of the human form society knows today. Science has
discovered that humans share approximately ninety seven percent of the same DNA with
chimpanzees, and that humans have one less chromosome than monkeys. Charles Darwin, a
nineteenth century English naturalist, developed a controversial peace that challenged the
established theories of how humans developed, which until his time, remained based heavily on the
Christian Churches. His Theory of Evolution, and the Roman Catholic Church's response (or lack
thereof) to the theory has brought increased criticism from liberal theologians and scientists alike
about whether or not the Church is serious about evolution and science in general. This comes as an
admittedly liberal organization, National Public Radio, released an article that detailed how "At
Johns Hopkins University, research suggests that chemicals that act on the serotonin system trigger
mystical experiences that are life–altering. Serotonin is a chemical messenger that helps regulate
mood and sleep." (NPR) Consequently, some scientists now claim that the evidence is "scientific
fact" that

My Journey At Seattle Pacific University
For the first eighteen years of my life I was raised in a conservative Southern Baptist church. During
my journey at Seattle Pacific University, I have been attending different church traditions in order to
find my own individual faith. One church that I have attended is Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Church. Since the Orthodox practices seemed abundantly different from the services that I grew up
with, I was hesitant but also excited and interested in their faith. Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox
Church was established in 1999 and is located in Shoreline, Washington. Their mission statement is
"to be an extended village, welcoming and encouraging both adults and children to participate in the
Orthodox Christian Faith, as we grow together, like the Holy Apostles, to know, love and serve Jesus
Christ". The congregation invites any person that is interested in learning more about the Orthodox
faith or is a member of the faith to join them in worship at their parish. As their website states,
"Everyone is welcome here – whatever your story, your questions, whatever your ethnic
background, whatever your doubts or struggles. Come as you are, because that's where God meets
us". There are currently about 200 members that attend Holy Apostles. While the congregation is
predominantly white, there is a wide range of ages from young children to older adults. I attended
the Sunday morning Divine Liturgy with a group of friends. We were also invited to stay for their
coffee hour and time of

Papal Paper
On April 19th, 2005, when the wisps of white smoke puffed from the chimney of Sistine Chapel, the
Roman Catholic Church had their first German Pope since the 11th century. Joseph Aloisius
Ratzinger, known as Benedict the XVI, is the two hundred and sixty–sixth Pope of the Roman
Catholic Church. Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger was elevated to the papacy on April 19th the year 2005,
due to the death of the beloved Pope John Paul the II. He is also the oldest to become Pope, since
Pope Clement XII in 1730. Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger celebrated his Papal Inauguration Mass five
days after being announced as the "new" Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. "Pope Benedict the
XVI was very well known for his rigid views on Catholicism and topics such as birth control and
homosexuality." (Bio.com. A&E Networks Television).
Pope Benedict XVI renewed the position of the Roman Catholic Church against the use of birth
control and contraception. The position is part of the panoply of Catholic pro–life teachings that also
include opposition to abortion, euthanasia and bioethical practices, such as human cloning or
embryonic research. Pope Benedict's comments came on the fortieth anniversary of the encyclical,
which originally announced the comprehensive teaching. Pope Benedict called the original
encyclical "An important document which addresses one of the essential aspects of the marital

Martin Luther 's The Pope Essay
First, it is important to understand Martin Luther's main issues with the Catholic Church and their
practices. The majority of his grievances were summed up in his Ninety–five Theses. One of his
main points was to question the authority of the Church. He writes "The pope has neither the will
nor the power to remit any penalties except those which he has imposed on his own authority...The
pope has no power to remit any guilt" (194). Luther stated the pope shouldn't have the ability to
remove any shame or infraction a Christian has committed unless it is through God's will. Luther
instead emphasized that justification by faith alone allowed for sin or guilt to be removed by God by
acknowledging the sacrifice of Christ. The pope instead did not do the work of God but just worked
for God which changed how the pope should be viewed in the public eye. Luther went after many
different aspects of the papacy if the pope to express how he saw how the Church failed to express
his ideal Christian message, especially regarding indulgences. He argued that any Christian leader
saying that Indulgences given by the pope saved you from sin was were completely wrong and all
Christians deserved to be removed from sin without Indulgences written by the pope.1He
disregarded indulgences since he thought were better ways to remove sin instead of paying money
to get out of purgatory. Luther believed that money should not play a part in the path of Christian
salvation since vile people could buy

The Brethren: Inside the Supreme Court Essay
The Brethren – Inside the Supreme Court: Book Review
The Brethren, co–authored by Bob Woodward and Scott Armstrong, is an in–depth documentary of
the United States Supreme Court from 1969 to 1975, under the leadership of Warren Burger. The
book attempts to present the reader with what "really" goes on in the Supreme Court. It describes the
conferences, the personality of justices, and how justice's feel toward each other, items which are
generally hidden from the public. This book is comparable to a lengthy newspaper article. Written
more as a source of information than of entertainment, The Brethren is the brutal truth, but not
boring. The storytelling is clearly slanted against the Burger court but the overall quality of the work

Rehnquist approved a play put on by the clerk's in which all the justices by the Chief found
amusing. Burger circulated a memo graciously thanking Rehnquist for his work on the party.
However at the next opportunity of case assignment's the junior justice found himself given only
one: an insignificant Indian tax dispute.
Woodward describes time and time again cases where the Burger would switch his vote to a
majority's just for the purposes of assigning the majority opinion. Also as Chief Justice, he would
wait to vote until all the other Justices have cast theirs. At first, he used this tactic to influence the
scope and direction of the decision. The book describes how Burger changed his conference votes so
he could assign the majority opinion of the court, angering William Douglas and William Brennen.
He also describes how Thurgood Marshall greeted Burger "Hey chiefy baby", getting a kick out of
making him feel uncomfortable. The reader sees how Harry Blackmun agonized at being considered
Burger's "boy" which eventually led to his breaking away from the conservative wing of the court.
Woodward also tells of the lack of respect the justices had for the abilities of Chief Justice Burger,
who wrote poorly reasoned opinions that embarrassed some members of the court.
The book shows how justices grow into their roles, either as a dealmaker or dissenter or leader. This
process sometimes takes many years. Justices mature and see

The Orthodox View Of Orthodox Church
Orthodox is a religion that is talked less among strong Christian believers. Many of the population
don't even know that it exists, youth, and old adults are more likely to discuss the religion
Catholicism. Directly following the social protocol, many think that orthodox is a religion that died
out long time ago and few never learns the history behind of its being in this world. Unlike the other
denominations, Orthodox churches have followed strict rules and scriptures that have been passed
down from generations. Many of my friends may say, "Orthodox is not a true religion. Stop wasting
your time!" As a member of the Orthodox faith for eighteen years, I can only replay and say, "You
have no idea what you are talking about." In this DCA paper, I will write to show that I am part of
the Orthodox church, logically explain why Orthodox altar boys is so strong, and illustrate how this
type of commitment affects your emotional life to prove that I belong in the Orthodox discourse
community.
I have always admired my faith, since birth I have been grown to believe Orthodox scriptures and to
follow the undying faith. I nearly never understood what certain motions of a priest during a service
or what some of the readings meant in my years as a child. The recognition of church faith began
when I was 12 years old, as a member of the St. Mary's, now called St. Mary's Valliyapally, in

The Sweet Hereafter and "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" Essay
"The Sweet Hereafter and the Pied Piper"
A tragic event can occur in no longer than a moment and produce a domino effect that can change
everything in your life. The book "The Sweet Hereafter" by Russell Banks contains such an event.
This book has a modernized undertone of the folk tale "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" by Robert
Browning. This tale is carried throughout the books entirety. Both of these stories show connections
in many ways and almost parallel one another in their basic plot of showing the painful effects
disaster can have on a small town. While the people of Hamlin had the Piper to directly blame for
their miseries, the people of Sam Dent did not.
Both stories are based on the loss of the children in a small ... Show more content on

At the end of the book "The Sweet Hereafter" one of the only children left to survive the accident is
a young girl named Nicole Burnell. Though she escapes narrowly with her life she is crippled and
confined to a wheelchair thereafter. Her dreams of becoming a beauty queen or a rock star are
dashed. Similarly in the tale of "The Pied Piper" the town is left with only one child who is crippled
and thus was unable to keep up with the rest of the children as they followed the Piper into the cave
dancing in an enchanted trance.
In both stories we later learn that these characters whom are left behind almost wish they had not
been spared. The crippled boy from "The Pied Piper" is in fact said to be sad at not being able to
share "all the pleasant sights" that he believes his playmates are seeing in a heaven–like land
described to them by the Piper himself. In the time immediately following the accident Nicole
Burnell could be described as having these similar feelings. In reality both of these characters
disabilities ended up saving them. In the case of the crippled boy his lameness kept him from being
taken away forever by the Piper, like all the other children. In the case of Nicole Burnell her gained
disability gave her control and power over the incestuous situation she was in with her own father, it
saved her from further sexual abuse.

Is Gamble A Prison Inmate Injured? Essay
Have you been in so much pain that you were immobilized and physically unable to work yet denied
any medical treatment? This happens to be the story of G.W. Gamble, a prison inmate injured while
serving his prison sentence. In 1973 Gamble was unloading cotton bales from a truck in accordance
with his prison labor assignment. During a routine shipment unloading, a "6.00 pound" cotton Bale
(later determined to be 600 pounds, fell onto him, causing him to severely injured his back. Gamble
struggled with pain for weeks continuously, visiting the doctor at every chance and receiving
painkillers at every visit. The pain came to a point where it was too much for Gamble to handle and
thus he refused to work even after threats were given. After he continued to refuse, officials placed
him in a solitary work confinement cell and denied him any further medical visits, treatments, or
medication until he began work again (Legal Information Institute). The 8th amendment states in the
U.S. Constitution "Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and
unusual punishments inflicted." (National Constitution Center), and in Gamble 's eyes the actions
taken by the prison officers were in direct violation of his 8th amendment. This led gamble to
writing a letter to the Supreme Court of the United States and was accepted for review, thus marking
the beginning of case 429 U.S. 97 (1976) Estelle v. Gamble, (Estelle being the Director of Texas

King V Burwell Case Summary
King v. Burwell (2015) is a Supreme Court case involving two parties, the petitioner David King
and the respondent Sylvia Mathews Burwell the Secretary of Health and Human Services. In a brief
background of the case according to Oyez, Congress passed the Patient Protection and Affordable
Care Act in 2010 to increase the number of Americans covered by health insurance and lower health
care costs. ACA requires each state to establish an "exchange" in which people can purchase health

The Church: An Analysis of The Rerum Novarum Publication
Introduction In this essay I will identify the issues which brought about this papal encyclical in
1891, specifically the social conditions of people, resulting from industrialisation and the church's
Christological role in declaring human dignity in terms of God's plan for mankind. I will set out the
historical position in Britain in this late Victorian era within the context of European radical political
upheaval, as part of the need for reform and a response from the Church. These issues will be
compared with the encyclical one hundred years later, to analyse the development of policy in1891
and 1991 in terms of the church's teaching, within the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was a paternalistic model which depended upon the state safeguarding rights, but also a system of
distributive justice administered by the state. The principle of private property was central to this
belief. His ideas stemmed from Aquinas and the belief in natural, God given law. His mind was
influenced by the reality of dealing with socialism in the loss of the Papal States and the threat that
supporting socialist causes would automatically lead to revolution and anti–church aggression. He
argued against the Marxist philosophy, claiming it was the individual's right, rather than the state, to
own property, thus supporting families in their religious duties. The encyclical was issued less than
forty years after Pius IX's Syllabus of Errors which declared: 'It is an error to believe that the Roman
pontiff can or should reconcile himself to, and agree with progress, liberalism, and modern
civilizations.' Leo XIII regarded the ius sanctum of property as something implicit in the traditional
theory of Thomistic theology, without conceding a 'liberal' doctrine of the state. Secondly his
approval of societies being set up with a common interest as long as they did not oppose the Church,
gave a lasting legacy to this day, for the growth of the modern trade union movement. The medieval
concept of craft guilds could be transformed to friendly societies, within a Christian framework.

Vatican Change the Pope? is an article written by Robert Draper and published by national

Christianity follows the same cultural hearth as Judaism until the New Testament where Jesus Christ

Germany as well as his native Poland.

in Germany and his native Poland through in depth research and an analysis of biographical

INTRODUCTION Even as a child, people knew that Karol Wojtyla was destined for greatness.
Even his mother bragged to all her neighbors that her newborn son would grow into a great man.
And that he did. He served as pope from 1978 until his death in 2005, a period of over twenty–six
years. He was the youngest pope of the Twentieth Century as well, elected at the age of fifty–eight.

Karol's battle against communism began during World War II, when he was forced to hide his faith
from the cruel government. He did this in several ways, including wearing his priestly garb without
the collar and being called "Uncle" instead of "Father" in public. Karol was the kind of man who
wasn't afraid to put himself in danger in order to speak the truth. It is evident that "he tried to stand
up for the dignity of man, even against the seemingly overwhelming power of Communism"
(Accattoli et al 30), which he did at his local university, preaching the message of Christianity to the
students and warning them of the evils of the communism and the atheism that went along with such
a government. But this action was only one of many early strides that Karol Wojtyla took against
communism.

Pope John Paul II was a very bright and articulate child, burdened by the loss of many classmates to
concentration camps. Drawing from his childhood experiences later in life, the pope used his talent
in linguistics to write several religious plays, including his first, David. These dramas portrayed
Christian views and beliefs in a simple and interesting manner. By acting out these plays,
Christianity and questioning of the communist regime began to spread throughout Poland.
Unfortunately, the government retaliated by shutting down the theological studies at the university.

The 2nd Vatican Council Essay
The 2nd Vatican Council
Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of
ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent
Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most
ground breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure
they enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today.
Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation
and unable to relate to contemporary man. It emerged from it a modern Church, tolerant and
accepting of other religions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined.
Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the
breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary
man. That concern would soon be dispelled.
In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church's
bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the
rest of the church's leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially "rubber stamp" their decisions.
However, despite the Curia's attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the
church. That was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible
inclusion in the council.
On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real
introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal
Lieneat of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the
pre–selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once
that happened, the assembled leaders and the world at–large knew that this would be more than a
"rubber stamp" council.
That first session lasted until December 8th and did not end with any documents approved or
consensus found. Of

The Separation Of The Churches Of Eastern Orthodox And The...
What actually led to the separation of the churches of Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic?
What are the many differences between these two churches? While there are very few similarities in
these two churches: the Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church, there are mostly
differences; however, taking a closer look at the split in 1054 will help determine this and will give
insight as to just what those similarities and differences are, how they came about, and what may
have caused the spilt to happen. So what actually led to the split? Between the two churches there
were several disputes that had to do with theological and political differences. For example, the
"Investiture Conflict, a clash that started between Pope Gregory VII (1073–85) and Emperor Henry
IV (1084–1105) over the investment of bishops with the symbols of their office." Who held what
office and ruled over whom, was the major dispute. The Roman Catholic pope claimed he held
authority over all. In the year 1054 everything was split from the stand points of theological and
hierarchical structures and it has not been the same since.
To begin, when it came to the theological similarities and differences there were definitely more
differences. First, the only similarity was the leadership that each one had. They had disputes over
everything else. Second, the church and the leaders in the Eastern Orthodox Church believed that all
popes were equal and there was no real focus or

Analysis Of John Paul Lederach 's The Moral Imagination
John Paul Lederach's The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace goes could only
have been written by someone who had spent many years in the field of conflict management. With
its underlying focus of the essence of peacebuilding, it looks far beyond what one may learn in any
textbook or seminar. While the first 8 chapters of the text are ripe with areas for further analysis,
here I will focus only on theme, found in one chapter, in the interest of brevity. In chapter 2 of The
Moral Imagination we are introduced to real life micro–case studies. The cases aim to help the
reader understand how people experiencing violent conflict throughout the world have worked to
"transcend the cycles of violence that bewitch our community," building on Lederach's statement on
why the book was written. That being said, we can see that Lederach is operating under the
assumption that current day peacebuilding and conflict management is not working as well as it
should. It is clear that he thinks there is something more that needs to be involved in current
strategies and models. He believes we must move from looking at actors in a conflict as separate
involved parties and instead view parties as "a web of relationships which include our enemies."
This requires a shift in thinking for those in thefield of peacebuilding and for those involved in the
conflict, but in making this shift, we can look at conflicts as existing within our communities rather
than between our

Analysis Of The Book ' Genesis '
Redeemer, defined by Merriam–Webster, means "a person who brings goodness, honor to something
again". In Catholicism this refers to the person who will carry out the last step of God's ultimate
plan, creation, sin, and salvation. We can see God's creation in the Book of Genesis. God spent six
days creating the universe, earth, animals, land, and humans. Humans were a different creation than
the other things God had created. When God created humans, "God created mankind in his
image...God blessed them" (Genesis 1:27). The next step in God's plan is sin. Sin was introduced to
mankind from God's given free will to humans. This caused Adam and Eve to be tricked by a
serpent into eating the forbidden apple in the Garden of Eden, thus, sin was introduced. The next
and last step in God's plan was salvation. Catholicism believes that humans and the world were not
totally corrupted by sin, rather temporarily fallen. It is believed that Christ is the lone savior of the
world because he is the son of God and God lives through Christ. In the Gospels, calling Christ the
redeemer is never mentioned, however in Paul's letters he references God bringing redemption to the
world. Therefore, God would bring salvation to the world through Christ as a redeemer. When
saying that Christ is the redeemer of the world, it means that God will following through with his
last step in his plan for salvation by bring redemption to the world through Christ. Pope John Paul II
in his encyclical Redemptor

Essay on The Anglican Communion Church
Anglicanism is a denomination within Christianity comprising the Church of England and churches
which are historically tied to it or have similar beliefs, worship practices and church structures.
Anglicans base their faith on the Bible, traditions of the apostolic the concept of apostolic
succession, and writings of the Church Fathers. Anglicanism forms one of the branches of Western
Christianity, having fully declared its independence from the Holy See at the time of the Elizabethan
Religious Settlement. (Sentamu, 2012) The Anglican Church of Southern Africa is the province of

In modern times, the emergence of Anglo–Catholic traditions have widely been attributed to the
general emphasis of formal worship and resistance to "modernisation". Father Dane Elsworth, an
Anglican priest in Durban, stated in an interview that the Anglican church has largely been effected
by "liberal minded people", which he asserts has lead to many losses in terms of liturgical practice.
The modern day Anglo–Catholic movement can be traced back to the Oxford Movement of the
Victorian era. One of the main objectives of the Oxford Movement was the assertion that the Church
of England was a "divinely–founded" institution, which adheres to the Apostolic Succession and of
the Book of Common Prayer acting as its "rule of faith". The prime idea was that Anglicanism was
not at all a Protestant denomination, but rather an off–shoot of the Catholic Church, together with
the Roman Catholic Church and the Eastern Orthodox churches. It was argued by the

The Case Morse Vs. Frederick
In the case Morse Vs. Frederick, a supreme court case that questioned the first amendment, the main
argument set out by Frederick was that the school's principal, Morse, was that Morse violated
Fredericks first amendment right. Juneau–Douglas High School was in session during the Olympic
Torch Relay for the 2002 winter Olympics. The school decided that it would let its students and
faculty out for a short period to watch as the torchbearers passed the school. This was considered a
school event and was treated as a field trip. Joseph Frederick was a senior at JDHS. He was a bit late
coming to school that day. When Frederick arrived to school during the event, he met up with some
of his friends. They soon pulled out fourteen–foot banner that had the phrase: "BONG HiTS 4
JESUS". The school's principal, Deborah Morse, almost immediately told the students to take down
the banner. All but one student complied with Morse. That student was Joseph Frederick. She told
the boys to take the sign down because she believed that the sign was encouraging the use of illegal
drugs in school. She told Frederick to report to her office where she later punished him by
suspending him for ten days. Frederick believed that his constitutional rights were being denied and
that the first amendment was violated in the process. Frederick sued Morse claiming that the school
violated his first amendment. Morse explained that she was not violating the first amendment

The Importance Of Caritas As A Catholic Social Organisation
Part A:
In New Zealand has a lot of Catholic social organisation. In this assessment I choose Caritas as a
Catholic social organisation.
Caritas Internationalis is a catholic organisation and social service. Their mission is to work to build
a better world, especially for the poor and oppressed. Caritas has social service organisations in over
200 countries. And I will identify Caritas in Thailand because Thailand is my homeland and
Thailand has a lot of poor people. Many people in Thailand need the helping from organisation and I
think Caritas Thailand is a great organisation to service people. Caritas Thailand is not only help or
service people, they teach about the Catholic teaching to the people too. Also people will get the
Catholic social teaching from Caritas Thailand and this Catholic social teaching is important for
live.
Caritas Thailand is set up in March 1968, Catholic Bishops' Conference of Thailand (CBCT) had
established commission for relief and development. At home or abroad, Caritas Thailand is able to
deploy immediate and effective humanitarian relief to people in needs. It has recently work in close
partnership with the global Caritas network to provide humanitarian aid to thousands of Syrian
refugee, providing foods and medical cares.
Caritas Thailand's manager include providing cares and supports to the elderly and the disabled,
developing sustainable agriculture projects and exploring methods to prevent child trafficking and
exploitation.

Transformation and Healing in John Paul Lederach's Book...
In When Blood and Bones Cry Out: Journeys through the soundscape of healing and reconciliation
(2010), John Paul Lederach, together with his daughter Angela Jill, study the use of metaphors from
sound to foster new pathways of conflict transformation and healing. They ask the question "how do
people express and then heal from violations that so destroy the essence of innocence, decency and
life itself that the very experience penetrates beyond comprehension and words?" (2010, p. 17). In
the Lederach's perspective, aural properties found in music, poetry, story–telling and creative dance,
with their regard for repetition and capacity to resonate diverse sounds, offer alternative facets for
conflict transformation and broadminded dialogue. These ideas, linked with aural and sonic
metaphors, give voice and sound to societies needing to express the atrocities incurred at the hand of
violence. Together, the Lederach's propel the reader to envision another approach to social healing in
settings of protracted violence. An elemental point made throughout the book is the shift away from
the linear and sequential methods for healing transformation and reconciliation to a dynamic and
circular process. The linear method is not equipped to handle post–conflict environments where the
end of the conflict does not signal the end of violence, especially for women. As Lederach &
Lederach point out with their story of Sierra Leone, the disturbing reality for women is that the

Care Act in 2010 to increase the number of Americans covered by health insurance and lower health
care costs. ACA requires each state to establish an "exchange" in which people can purchase health
care; and if a state chooses not to do so, the federal government establishes one through the
Secretary of Health and Human Services. Another condition made by the ACA requires people to

Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, in Halbig v. Burwell (2015), reached the

purchased on Exchanges "established by the State." The D.C. Circuit's decision, however, was
vacated when that court agreed to hold an "en banc" hearing of the case before all judges of the
court in December. Meanwhile, the appellants in King v. Burwell (2015), having decided not to seek

Court, which was granted on November 7, 2014, despite the fact that there was technically no

The Purpose of Suffering: a Christian Perspective
The Purpose of Suffering:
A Christian Perspective
The concept of suffering plays an important role in Christianity, regarding such matters as moral
conduct, spiritual advancement and ultimate destiny. Indeed an emphasis on suffering pervades the
Gospel of Mark where, it can be argued, we are shown how to "journey through suffering" (Ditzel
2001) in the image of the "Suffering Son of Man" (Mark 8:32), Jesus Christ. Although theologians
have suggested that Mark was written to strengthen the resolve of the early Christian community
(Halpern 2002, Mayerfeld 2005), the underlying moral is not lost on a modern reader grappling with
multifarious challenges regarding faith in the face of suffering. In his article "A Christian Response

Personally I think people need guidance and to know they are not alone when pain overwhelms
them or their loved ones. To know that God is present, albeit in a way "which is beyond us", can
help those who suffer to come to terms with suffering, perhaps even achieve "a freedom, a serenity,
a wholeness" on account of it; often despite not being cured (Marravee 1987). From Christian author
and disability advocate, Joni Eareckson Tada, we find an inspiring example. In her books, Tada
speaks of how a belief in the solidarity of God has helped her in her difficult journey through
suffering .
A common reaction to suffering is to ask "Why?" – "Why did God let it happen to me?" Jesus'
reaction however, lies in stark contrast. Notably, Jesus does not self pity or place blame . The
message here, according to Oswald Chambers, is:
No sin is worse than the sin of self pity, because it removes God from the throne of our lives,
replacing Him with our own self interests. It causes us to open our mouths only to complain, and we
simply become spiritual sponges – always absorbing, never giving and never being satisfied. And
there is nothing lovely or generous about our lives. Jesus' reaction in Mark is one of total submission
to suffering; Jesus knows He must suffer and accepts it as divine necessity. Although Jesus is
vulnerable and fearful of His imminent death (shown through His prayer to Abba (Daddy) in the
Garden of Gethsemane), Jesus does not shirk

In Defense of Love: Why Catholics Should be for Gay...
The topic of homosexual marriages has been a very hotly contested issue and has in recent years
become an even more heavily debated topic, particularly in the Catholic Church. Now, Catholics
have always had a very definite stance on homosexuality and more importantly homosexual
marriage. They have always had the belief that marriage is, and should remain, exclusively between
a man and a woman. I too, being a Catholic myself, held this belief for quite some time until I
actually looked into scripture, and I discovered that the Catholic Church has been thinking
backwards. Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, homosexual marriage has always been
deemed an abomination by scripture, tradition, and holy fathers, but through scripture ... Show more

That is not to say that everyone is going straight to hell if they are homosexual. "Every human being
is called to receive the gift of divine son–ship, to become a child of God by grace. However to
receive this gift we must reject, sin including homosexual behavior" (Brom). Rome instructs that we
do not judge the sinner; we only judge the sin. While we are taught to not pass judgment on gays for
being homosexual, we are to oppose any and all homosexual acts. Pope John Paul II spoke
extensively on gay marriage and teaches that, "The presence of the feminine element, alongside the
male element and together with it, signifies an enrichment for men in the whole perspective of his
history" (Pope John Paul II). Pope John Paul II raises an excellent point; there are fantastic benefits
to marriage enjoyed by both spouses. There are many health benefits to marriage: including longer
lifespan, improved overall happiness, someone to monitor your health, someone to live for, and
shorter stays in hospital. However, the question remains that if marriage is such a wonderful,
beneficial thing, why are gays prevented from participating?
Well the Vatican has many answers that can all be conveniently found in one volume, the Bible. One
need only look into the second chapter of the good book to find the first scripture used against gay
marriage. Genesis 2:24 reads, "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his
wife, and they become one flesh."

Comparing Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven
Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven verdict was gold for the members of the iconic rock band. The
verdict went in their favor, and against Spirit, the group whose instrumental song, Taurus, they were
accused of plagiarizing in creating their mega–million selling hit song. Though a chromatic
descending arpeggiated scale that skips the E note is featured in both songs, making a part of
"Stairway to Heaven" sound similar to a part of Taurus, the jury panel appeared to base its
unanimous decision on Thursday on the fact that the two songs, to their ears, had more differences

The decision that Led Zeppelin did not plagiarized the song by Spirit, written by the band's late

The Trickster of Hamelin
The Trickster of Hamelin The story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin comes in the form of a poem by

secondary themes to support this are Greed, the loss of a generation of children, and the suggestion
of heaven to which the children go. This retelling of this story, in the form of a film focuses on the
story from the viewpoint of the pied piper instead of the villagers. The summary of the original
poem is as followed. The town of Hamelin in Brunswick is introduced and it is told that there was a
serious vermin problem 500 years ago. Rats overran the city to the point where the villagers
demanded the mayor and the councilmen that the rats be gotten rid of. The mayor cannot find a way

Preeminent Court Case

  • 1. Preeminent Court Case This examination paper talks about and breaks down the choice of the United States Preeminent Court in Texas v. Johnson, 491 U.S. 397 (1989) and the resulting open discussion concerning whether and under what circumstances state governments and the central government might naturally deny the copying or other profaning or mutilation of the American banner. By its choice in Texas v. Johnson and its later managing in United States v. Eichman, 496 U.S. 310 (1990), the Preeminent Court has successfully decided that administration may not bring criminal arraignments against people who smolder or profane the American signal inasmuch as they are in this manner occupied with articulations of political perspectives without shortening the privilege of ... Katrina happened 5 years ago, Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream Speech" on the Washington Mall 47 years ago, and Mother Teresa was born a century ago. Monday: Katrina; Tuesday: "I Have a Dream;" Today: Mother Teresa After spending a great deal of time on and devoting a good deal of space to the two previous subjects in this series on recent anniversaries, 2005 's devastating Hurricane Katrina and the world– changing 1963 "I Have a Dream" speech by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I had looked forward to writing an innocuous, little piece on one of the two saints I have ever known. Pope John Paul II was one, Mother Teresa was the other. Not that I personally met with either the pope or the Catholic nun Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, later to be known as Mother Teresa, but I felt that a few words commemorating the anniversary of her birth in Shkoder, Albania on August 26th, 1910 were in order. • 7. Long Lost Family Several seasons back, there was a program on one of the cable television stations entitled "Long Lost Family". The premise of the program was to reunite family members who had been separated for many years, sometimes decades, to make a family "whole" again. Sometimes the story was about parents and children lost through adoption or custody situations. Most frequently, it was about siblings who, because of family feuds or other dysfunctions, had been apart for many years. Sometimes other siblings had polarized around the two who were separated, causing increased tensions and rifts. Interestingly, many times the true cause of the rift as lost to time and memory. Frequently, it came down to miscommunication and pride, a form of standing ground to not appear weak or guilty. Through the intercession of the host of the program, the separated siblings would communicate, have an opportunity to explain or make amends, and then reunite. At the end of the program, the producers would post an update on how well the reunion and rebuilding of family ties was progressing. It was always clear that rebuilding of the family ties would take time and effort on both sides. The analogy of disconnected family members is used frequently in the discussion of the centuries long rift between Catholics and Jews. It is apt. For, in the 50 years since the promulgation of Nostra Aetate by Pope Paul VI, Catholics and Jews have come far in healing 2,000 years of miscommunication, false pride, ... North Whitehead, Monsignor Luigi Guissani, and Charles Hartshorne have contributed significant bits of Theology as the Roman Catholic Church, perhaps a century late, has finally come to a difficult crossroads about the creation of the world: Should the Vatican alter (no pun intended) modify Church Dogmas, which are infallible snippets of doctrinal teaching, or ignore rapid scientific finds that have eroded the Church's belief that God created one man and one woman. These men, who study Theology, Physics, Theology, and Philosophy, respectively, provide scientific basis on why the Catholic Church must adapt a Theology ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unfortunately, there is no proof for the alleged Creator. It is important, however, to acknowledge that Science has not disproved God either. Science has further discounted the Church's teaching that Adam and Eve existed with artifacts of animals, many of which have human characteristics, existing thousands of years before the appearance of the human form society knows today. Science has discovered that humans share approximately ninety seven percent of the same DNA with chimpanzees, and that humans have one less chromosome than monkeys. Charles Darwin, a nineteenth century English naturalist, developed a controversial peace that challenged the established theories of how humans developed, which until his time, remained based heavily on the Christian Churches. His Theory of Evolution, and the Roman Catholic Church's response (or lack thereof) to the theory has brought increased criticism from liberal theologians and scientists alike about whether or not the Church is serious about evolution and science in general. This comes as an admittedly liberal organization, National Public Radio, released an article that detailed how "At Johns Hopkins University, research suggests that chemicals that act on the serotonin system trigger mystical experiences that are life–altering. Serotonin is a chemical messenger that helps regulate mood and sleep." (NPR) Consequently, some scientists now claim that the evidence is "scientific fact" that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. My Journey At Seattle Pacific University For the first eighteen years of my life I was raised in a conservative Southern Baptist church. During my journey at Seattle Pacific University, I have been attending different church traditions in order to find my own individual faith. One church that I have attended is Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church. Since the Orthodox practices seemed abundantly different from the services that I grew up with, I was hesitant but also excited and interested in their faith. Holy Apostles Greek Orthodox Church was established in 1999 and is located in Shoreline, Washington. Their mission statement is "to be an extended village, welcoming and encouraging both adults and children to participate in the Orthodox Christian Faith, as we grow together, like the Holy Apostles, to know, love and serve Jesus Christ". The congregation invites any person that is interested in learning more about the Orthodox faith or is a member of the faith to join them in worship at their parish. As their website states, "Everyone is welcome here – whatever your story, your questions, whatever your ethnic background, whatever your doubts or struggles. Come as you are, because that's where God meets us". There are currently about 200 members that attend Holy Apostles. While the congregation is predominantly white, there is a wide range of ages from young children to older adults. I attended the Sunday morning Divine Liturgy with a group of friends. Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger, known as Benedict the XVI, is the two hundred and sixty–sixth Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger was elevated to the papacy on April 19th the year 2005, due to the death of the beloved Pope John Paul the II. He is also the oldest to become Pope, since Pope Clement XII in 1730. Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger celebrated his Papal Inauguration Mass five days after being announced as the "new" Pope of the Roman Catholic Church. "Pope Benedict the XVI was very well known for his rigid views on Catholicism and topics such as birth control and homosexuality." (Bio.com. A&E Networks Television). Pope Benedict XVI renewed the position of the Roman Catholic Church against the use of birth control and contraception. The position is part of the panoply of Catholic pro–life teachings that also include opposition to abortion, euthanasia and bioethical practices, such as human cloning or embryonic research. Pope Benedict's comments came on the fortieth anniversary of the encyclical, which originally announced the comprehensive teaching. • 15. Martin Luther 's The Pope Essay First, it is important to understand Martin Luther's main issues with the Catholic Church and their practices. The majority of his grievances were summed up in his Ninety–five Theses. One of his main points was to question the authority of the Church. He writes "The pope has neither the will nor the power to remit any penalties except those which he has imposed on his own authority...The pope has no power to remit any guilt" (194). Luther stated the pope shouldn't have the ability to remove any shame or infraction a Christian has committed unless it is through God's will. Luther instead emphasized that justification by faith alone allowed for sin or guilt to be removed by God by acknowledging the sacrifice of Christ. The pope instead did not do the work of God but just worked for God which changed how the pope should be viewed in the public eye. Luther went after many different aspects of the papacy if the pope to express how he saw how the Church failed to express his ideal Christian message, especially regarding indulgences. He argued that any Christian leader saying that Indulgences given by the pope saved you from sin was were completely wrong and all Christians deserved to be removed from sin without Indulgences written by the pope.1He disregarded indulgences since he thought were better ways to remove sin instead of paying money to get out of purgatory. Luther believed that money should not play a part in the path of Christian salvation since vile people could buy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Brethren: Inside the Supreme Court Essay The Brethren – Inside the Supreme Court: Book Review The Brethren, co–authored by Bob Woodward and Scott Armstrong, is an in–depth documentary of the United States Supreme Court from 1969 to 1975, under the leadership of Warren Burger. The book attempts to present the reader with what "really" goes on in the Supreme Court. It describes the conferences, the personality of justices, and how justice's feel toward each other, items which are generally hidden from the public. This book is comparable to a lengthy newspaper article. Written more as a source of information than of entertainment, The Brethren is the brutal truth, but not boring. The storytelling is clearly slanted against the Burger court but the overall quality of the work ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rehnquist approved a play put on by the clerk's in which all the justices by the Chief found amusing. Burger circulated a memo graciously thanking Rehnquist for his work on the party. However at the next opportunity of case assignment's the junior justice found himself given only one: an insignificant Indian tax dispute. Woodward describes time and time again cases where the Burger would switch his vote to a majority's just for the purposes of assigning the majority opinion. Also as Chief Justice, he would wait to vote until all the other Justices have cast theirs. At first, he used this tactic to influence the scope and direction of the decision. The book describes how Burger changed his conference votes so he could assign the majority opinion of the court, angering William Douglas and William Brennen. He also describes how Thurgood Marshall greeted Burger "Hey chiefy baby", getting a kick out of making him feel uncomfortable. The reader sees how Harry Blackmun agonized at being considered Burger's "boy" which eventually led to his breaking away from the conservative wing of the court. Woodward also tells of the lack of respect the justices had for the abilities of Chief Justice Burger, who wrote poorly reasoned opinions that embarrassed some members of the court. The book shows how justices grow into their roles, either as a dealmaker or dissenter or leader. This process sometimes takes many years. Justices mature and see ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Orthodox View Of Orthodox Church Orthodox is a religion that is talked less among strong Christian believers. Many of the population don't even know that it exists, youth, and old adults are more likely to discuss the religion Catholicism. Directly following the social protocol, many think that orthodox is a religion that died out long time ago and few never learns the history behind of its being in this world. Unlike the other denominations, Orthodox churches have followed strict rules and scriptures that have been passed down from generations. Many of my friends may say, "Orthodox is not a true religion. Stop wasting your time!" As a member of the Orthodox faith for eighteen years, I can only replay and say, "You have no idea what you are talking about." In this DCA paper, I will write to show that I am part of the Orthodox church, logically explain why Orthodox altar boys is so strong, and illustrate how this type of commitment affects your emotional life to prove that I belong in the Orthodox discourse community. I have always admired my faith, since birth I have been grown to believe Orthodox scriptures and to follow the undying faith. I nearly never understood what certain motions of a priest during a service or what some of the readings meant in my years as a child. The recognition of church faith began when I was 12 years old, as a member of the St. Mary's, now called St. Mary's Valliyapally, in Farmers Branch, Carrolton, TX. The Sweet Hereafter and "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" Essay "The Sweet Hereafter and the Pied Piper" A tragic event can occur in no longer than a moment and produce a domino effect that can change everything in your life. The book "The Sweet Hereafter" by Russell Banks contains such an event. This book has a modernized undertone of the folk tale "The Pied Piper of Hamelin" by Robert Browning. This tale is carried throughout the books entirety. Both of these stories show connections in many ways and almost parallel one another in their basic plot of showing the painful effects disaster can have on a small town. While the people of Hamlin had the Piper to directly blame for their miseries, the people of Sam Dent did not. Both stories are based on the loss of the children in a small ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the end of the book "The Sweet Hereafter" one of the only children left to survive the accident is a young girl named Nicole Burnell. Though she escapes narrowly with her life she is crippled and confined to a wheelchair thereafter. Her dreams of becoming a beauty queen or a rock star are dashed. Similarly in the tale of "The Pied Piper" the town is left with only one child who is crippled and thus was unable to keep up with the rest of the children as they followed the Piper into the cave dancing in an enchanted trance. In both stories we later learn that these characters whom are left behind almost wish they had not been spared. The crippled boy from "The Pied Piper" is in fact said to be sad at not being able to share "all the pleasant sights" that he believes his playmates are seeing in a heaven–like land described to them by the Piper himself. In the time immediately following the accident Nicole Burnell could be described as having these similar feelings. In reality both of these characters disabilities ended up saving them. In the case of the crippled boy his lameness kept him from being taken away forever by the Piper, like all the other children. In the case of Nicole Burnell her gained disability gave her control and power over the incestuous situation she was in with her own father, it saved her from further sexual abuse. This happens to be the story of G.W. Gamble, a prison inmate injured while serving his prison sentence. The Church: An Analysis of The Rerum Novarum Publication Introduction In this essay I will identify the issues which brought about this papal encyclical in 1891, specifically the social conditions of people, resulting from industrialisation and the church's Christological role in declaring human dignity in terms of God's plan for mankind. I will set out the historical position in Britain in this late Victorian era within the context of European radical political upheaval, as part of the need for reform and a response from the Church. These issues will be compared with the encyclical one hundred years later, to analyse the development of policy in1891 and 1991 in terms of the church's teaching, within the ... The principle of private property was central to this belief. His ideas stemmed from Aquinas and the belief in natural, God given law. His mind was influenced by the reality of dealing with socialism in the loss of the Papal States and the threat that supporting socialist causes would automatically lead to revolution and anti–church aggression. He argued against the Marxist philosophy, claiming it was the individual's right, rather than the state, to own property, thus supporting families in their religious duties. The encyclical was issued less than forty years after Pius IX's Syllabus of Errors which declared: 'It is an error to believe that the Roman pontiff can or should reconcile himself to, and agree with progress, liberalism, and modern civilizations.' Leo XIII regarded the ius sanctum of property as something implicit in the traditional theory of Thomistic theology, without conceding a 'liberal' doctrine of the state. Secondly his approval of societies being set up with a common interest as long as they did not oppose the Church, gave a lasting legacy to this day, for the growth of the modern trade union movement. The Roman Catholic Church's new Pope, Pope Francis, has come in to power with the ambition to transform the Vatican for the better. Will the Pope Change the Vatican? Or Will the Vatican Change the Pope? is an article written by Robert Draper and published by national geographic. The article explains the Popes origin and his progressive changes to the Vatican to revert the Catholic Church to what it was meant to be, a church for the people. Dr. Fouberg's book Human Geography: People, Place, and Culture dives into the Catholic Church, and the cultural and geographic significance it has on the human population. Religion is a fragment of an extensive list of human identities, it is part culture, part of a learned beliefs and values that held by individuals (Fouberg, 28). Religion is culturally gripping prevailing priorities (Fouberg, 205). Christianity has the largest diffusion for its cultural hearth of any of the major world religions (Fouberg, 209). Christianity follows the same cultural hearth as Judaism until the New Testament where Jesus Christ is introduced as the son of God (Fouberg, 217). Christianity split into two separate Christian sects in 1054 CE, one of them being the Roman Catholic Church (Fouberg, 217). Pope John Paul II's Influence on the Fall of Communism Essay THESIS STATEMENT Both the words and actions of Pope John Paul II were crucial to the downfall of communism in Germany as well as his native Poland. PURPOSE STATEMENT This paper will discuss Pope John Paul II's role in the fall of communism in Germany and his native Poland through in depth research and an analysis of biographical research. INTRODUCTION Even as a child, people knew that Karol Wojtyla was destined for greatness. Even his mother bragged to all her neighbors that her newborn son would grow into a great man. And that he did. He served as pope from 1978 until his death in 2005, a period of over twenty–six years. He was the youngest pope of the Twentieth Century as well, elected at the age of fifty–eight. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Karol's battle against communism began during World War II, when he was forced to hide his faith from the cruel government. He did this in several ways, including wearing his priestly garb without the collar and being called "Uncle" instead of "Father" in public. Karol was the kind of man who wasn't afraid to put himself in danger in order to speak the truth. It is evident that "he tried to stand up for the dignity of man, even against the seemingly overwhelming power of Communism" (Accattoli et al 30), which he did at his local university, preaching the message of Christianity to the students and warning them of the evils of the communism and the atheism that went along with such a government. But this action was only one of many early strides that Karol Wojtyla took against communism. A POPE FOR THE PEOPLE Pope John Paul II was a very bright and articulate child, burdened by the loss of many classmates to concentration camps. Drawing from his childhood experiences later in life, the pope used his talent in linguistics to write several religious plays, including his first, David. These dramas portrayed Christian views and beliefs in a simple and interesting manner. By acting out these plays, Christianity and questioning of the communist regime began to spread throughout Poland. Unfortunately, the government retaliated by shutting down the theological studies at the university. But Pope John Paul II wasn't about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The 2nd Vatican Council Essay The 2nd Vatican Council Starting with the First Council of Nicaea in 325 the Catholic Church established a tradition of ecumenical Council meetings to help decide on and shape the future of the Church. The most recent Council, called Vatican II, is considered to be both the largest ever in scope and also the most ground breaking in the amount of change it yielded. The changes in doctrine, dogma and procedure they enacted had major effects both inside and outside the Catholic Church and continue to today. Before the Vatican II the Catholic Church was an aging dinosaur, still crippled by the Reformation and unable to relate to contemporary man. That alone doubled the amount of documents created by the previous twenty councils combined. Many were concerned that when the council officially began it would be so weighed down by the breadth of its task that the bishops would be unable to make changes significant to the contemporary man. That concern would soon be dispelled. In recent times, the Curia had grown very confident in their authority over the rest of the Church's bishops since the decree of papal infallibility made at the 1st Vatican Council. They expected the rest of the church's leaders to arrive in Rome and essentially "rubber stamp" their decisions. However, despite the Curia's attempts to keep it hidden there was a great deal of discontent in the church. That was illustrated by the thousands of submittals that were sent to the church for possible inclusion in the council. On the first day of meetings during the first session in October 11th 1962 it became clear that real introspection would be inevitable and that the Curia would not be placidly followed. Cardinal Lieneat of France and Cardinal Frings of Germany took the first step by successful challenging the pre–selection of the members of the ten committees that would be in control the council voice. Once that happened, the assembled leaders and the world at–large knew that this would be more than a "rubber stamp" council. • 41. The Separation Of The Churches Of Eastern Orthodox And The... What actually led to the separation of the churches of Eastern Orthodox and the Roman Catholic? What are the many differences between these two churches? While there are very few similarities in these two churches: the Roman Catholic church and the Eastern Orthodox church, there are mostly differences; however, taking a closer look at the split in 1054 will help determine this and will give insight as to just what those similarities and differences are, how they came about, and what may have caused the spilt to happen. So what actually led to the split? Between the two churches there were several disputes that had to do with theological and political differences. For example, the "Investiture Conflict, a clash that started between Pope Gregory VII (1073–85) and Emperor Henry IV (1084–1105) over the investment of bishops with the symbols of their office." Who held what office and ruled over whom, was the major dispute. The Roman Catholic pope claimed he held authority over all. In the year 1054 everything was split from the stand points of theological and hierarchical structures and it has not been the same since. To begin, when it came to the theological similarities and differences there were definitely more differences. First, the only similarity was the leadership that each one had. They had disputes over everything else. Second, the church and the leaders in the Eastern Orthodox Church believed that all popes were equal and there was no real focus or ... • 43. Analysis Of John Paul Lederach 's The Moral Imagination John Paul Lederach's The Moral Imagination: The Art and Soul of Building Peace goes could only have been written by someone who had spent many years in the field of conflict management. With its underlying focus of the essence of peacebuilding, it looks far beyond what one may learn in any textbook or seminar. While the first 8 chapters of the text are ripe with areas for further analysis, here I will focus only on theme, found in one chapter, in the interest of brevity. In chapter 2 of The Moral Imagination we are introduced to real life micro–case studies. The cases aim to help the reader understand how people experiencing violent conflict throughout the world have worked to "transcend the cycles of violence that bewitch our community," building on Lederach's statement on why the book was written. That being said, we can see that Lederach is operating under the assumption that current day peacebuilding and conflict management is not working as well as it should. It is clear that he thinks there is something more that needs to be involved in current strategies and models. He believes we must move from looking at actors in a conflict as separate involved parties and instead view parties as "a web of relationships which include our enemies." This requires a shift in thinking for those in thefield of peacebuilding and for those involved in the conflict, but in making this shift, we can look at conflicts as existing within our communities rather than between our ... • 45. Analysis Of The Book ' Genesis ' Redeemer, defined by Merriam–Webster, means "a person who brings goodness, honor to something again". In Catholicism this refers to the person who will carry out the last step of God's ultimate plan, creation, sin, and salvation. We can see God's creation in the Book of Genesis. God spent six days creating the universe, earth, animals, land, and humans. Humans were a different creation than the other things God had created. When God created humans, "God created mankind in his image...God blessed them" (Genesis 1:27). The next step in God's plan is sin. Sin was introduced to mankind from God's given free will to humans. This caused Adam and Eve to be tricked by a serpent into eating the forbidden apple in the Garden of Eden, thus, sin was introduced. The next and last step in God's plan was salvation. Catholicism believes that humans and the world were not totally corrupted by sin, rather temporarily fallen. It is believed that Christ is the lone savior of the world because he is the son of God and God lives through Christ. In the Gospels, calling Christ the redeemer is never mentioned, however in Paul's letters he references God bringing redemption to the world. Therefore, God would bring salvation to the world through Christ as a redeemer. When saying that Christ is the redeemer of the world, it means that God will following through with his last step in his plan for salvation by bring redemption to the world through Christ. One of the main objectives of the Oxford Movement was the assertion that the Church of England was a "divinely–founded" institution, which adheres to the Apostolic Succession and of the Book of Common Prayer acting as its "rule of faith". The school decided that it would let its students and faculty out for a short period to watch as the torchbearers passed the school. This was considered a school event and was treated as a field trip. Joseph Frederick was a senior at JDHS. He was a bit late coming to school that day. • 59. Transformation and Healing in John Paul Lederach's Book... In When Blood and Bones Cry Out: Journeys through the soundscape of healing and reconciliation (2010), John Paul Lederach, together with his daughter Angela Jill, study the use of metaphors from sound to foster new pathways of conflict transformation and healing. They ask the question "how do people express and then heal from violations that so destroy the essence of innocence, decency and life itself that the very experience penetrates beyond comprehension and words?" (2010, p. 17). In the Lederach's perspective, aural properties found in music, poetry, story–telling and creative dance, with their regard for repetition and capacity to resonate diverse sounds, offer alternative facets for conflict transformation and broadminded dialogue. These ideas, linked with aural and sonic metaphors, give voice and sound to societies needing to express the atrocities incurred at the hand of violence. Together, the Lederach's propel the reader to envision another approach to social healing in settings of protracted violence. An elemental point made throughout the book is the shift away from the linear and sequential methods for healing transformation and reconciliation to a dynamic and circular process. The linear method is not equipped to handle post–conflict environments where the end of the conflict does not signal the end of violence, especially for women. Burwell (2015), having decided not to seek an en banc hearing, filed a "writ of certiorari" or petition for review with the United States Supreme Court, which was granted on November 7, 2014, despite the fact that there was technically no disagreement between the two appellate courts on the central ... • 63. The Purpose of Suffering: a Christian Perspective The Purpose of Suffering: A Christian Perspective The concept of suffering plays an important role in Christianity, regarding such matters as moral conduct, spiritual advancement and ultimate destiny. Indeed an emphasis on suffering pervades the Gospel of Mark where, it can be argued, we are shown how to "journey through suffering" (Ditzel 2001) in the image of the "Suffering Son of Man" (Mark 8:32), Jesus Christ. Although theologians have suggested that Mark was written to strengthen the resolve of the early Christian community (Halpern 2002, Mayerfeld 2005), the underlying moral is not lost on a modern reader grappling with multifarious challenges regarding faith in the face of suffering. In his article "A Christian Response to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Personally I think people need guidance and to know they are not alone when pain overwhelms them or their loved ones. To know that God is present, albeit in a way "which is beyond us", can help those who suffer to come to terms with suffering, perhaps even achieve "a freedom, a serenity, a wholeness" on account of it; often despite not being cured (Marravee 1987). From Christian author and disability advocate, Joni Eareckson Tada, we find an inspiring example. In her books, Tada speaks of how a belief in the solidarity of God has helped her in her difficult journey through suffering . A common reaction to suffering is to ask "Why?" – "Why did God let it happen to me?" Jesus' reaction however, lies in stark contrast. Notably, Jesus does not self pity or place blame . The message here, according to Oswald Chambers, is: No sin is worse than the sin of self pity, because it removes God from the throne of our lives, replacing Him with our own self interests. It causes us to open our mouths only to complain, and we simply become spiritual sponges – always absorbing, never giving and never being satisfied. And there is nothing lovely or generous about our lives. Jesus' reaction in Mark is one of total submission to suffering; Jesus knows He must suffer and accepts it as divine necessity. Although Jesus is vulnerable and fearful of His imminent death (shown through His prayer to Abba (Daddy) in the Garden of Gethsemane), Jesus does not shirk ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The internet became a very popular and huge way of getting millions of different kinds of materials and information for everyday use in the later 80's early 90's. It became easy for anyone to access millions of different kinds of materials ninety nine percent of which is decent according to our governments standards and one or less percent which is considered to be material the is indecent or harmful to minors.(ABC) These facts maybe deceiving however because there are millions of internet sites so the internet may only be one percent indecent but that means there are thousands upon thousands of sites that are indecent.(ABC) The biggest question is how can we protect our children from these indecent sites? The government believed that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (Childs) What is "indecent" material or "potentially offensive" material? Is a website considered indecent if they use curse words and if it is indecent should they be fined $250,000 and serve up to 2 years in prison? This was answered on June 27, 1997 when the supreme court declared the CDA unconstitutional in the case Reno v. American Civil Liberties Union.(Greenhouse) Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens said that free speech on the internet is held to be a freedom protected by the highest of laws, the constitution, specifically the first amendment.(Greenhouse) Like many other Americans the Justices agreed that it is important to try and protect our children from indecent material on the internet however this is a matter which should be handled by the parents, not the government.(Greenhouse) District Judge Buckwalter says "my concerns are these: above all, I believe that the challenged provisions are so vague as to violate both the First and Fifth Amendments." He also questions how the government could be arguing that "patently offensive" and "indecent" are one in the same.(ACUL v. Janet Reno) This however was not the end. Congress in response to the ruling on the CDA decided to pass another bill called the Child Online Protection Act or COPA. (Supreme Court Affirms) Where the CDA failed Congress was hoping ... • 67. In Defense of Love: Why Catholics Should be for Gay... The topic of homosexual marriages has been a very hotly contested issue and has in recent years become an even more heavily debated topic, particularly in the Catholic Church. Now, Catholics have always had a very definite stance on homosexuality and more importantly homosexual marriage. They have always had the belief that marriage is, and should remain, exclusively between a man and a woman. I too, being a Catholic myself, held this belief for quite some time until I actually looked into scripture, and I discovered that the Catholic Church has been thinking backwards. Throughout the history of the Catholic Church, homosexual marriage has always been deemed an abomination by scripture, tradition, and holy fathers, but through scripture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is not to say that everyone is going straight to hell if they are homosexual. "Every human being is called to receive the gift of divine son–ship, to become a child of God by grace. However to receive this gift we must reject, sin including homosexual behavior" (Brom). Rome instructs that we do not judge the sinner; we only judge the sin. While we are taught to not pass judgment on gays for being homosexual, we are to oppose any and all homosexual acts. Pope John Paul II spoke extensively on gay marriage and teaches that, "The presence of the feminine element, alongside the male element and together with it, signifies an enrichment for men in the whole perspective of his history" (Pope John Paul II). Pope John Paul II raises an excellent point; there are fantastic benefits to marriage enjoyed by both spouses. There are many health benefits to marriage: including longer lifespan, improved overall happiness, someone to monitor your health, someone to live for, and shorter stays in hospital. However, the question remains that if marriage is such a wonderful, beneficial thing, why are gays prevented from participating? Well the Vatican has many answers that can all be conveniently found in one volume, the Bible. One need only look into the second chapter of the good book to find the first scripture used against gay marriage. Genesis 2:24 reads, "That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh." ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Omaha thrives on entertainment and we need a place to enjoy that entertainment. Join me on this ride and hang on tight because things are about to get interesting. I had never been to Harney Street Tavern. Well, unless you count those numerous days I practically lived as a teenager at The Antiquarium. Many a day I sat in a overstuffed chair, a cat in my lap, reading a book or chatting with Tom Rudloff (RIP) about becoming a writer someday. He encouraged me all the time saying it was 'art' not just writing and with that I went to college to do what I love...art. If I hadn't recognized the building I would have had a difficult time finding The Harney Street Tavern due to the low lit signage. Although at night, everything in the Omaha Old Market is hard for me to find due to the low lit signage. Down a small flight of stairs, under what now is a coffee shop, gave way to a worn, vintage ambiance that only the Old Market buildings can provide. The tavern was smaller than I expected but far be it from any artist to complain about it ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 71. Comparing Led Zeppelin's Stairway To Heaven Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven verdict was gold for the members of the iconic rock band. The verdict went in their favor, and against Spirit, the group whose instrumental song, Taurus, they were accused of plagiarizing in creating their mega–million selling hit song. Though a chromatic descending arpeggiated scale that skips the E note is featured in both songs, making a part of "Stairway to Heaven" sound similar to a part of Taurus, the jury panel appeared to base its unanimous decision on Thursday on the fact that the two songs, to their ears, had more differences than similarities between them, according to Entertainment Weekly. The decision that Led Zeppelin did not plagiarized the song by Spirit, written by the band's late guitarist and songwriter, Randy Wolfe, was reached by a jury in a federal court room in Los Angeles after a trial that lasted a week. Wolfe passed away in 1997. The case was brought against Led Zeppelin by Michael Skidmore, a trustee of the estate of Wolfe. Wolfe's estate was asking for approximately $40 million in damages, as well as a songwriting credit for Wolfe and a share of future royalties made by Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven. ... • 73. The Trickster of Hamelin The Trickster of Hamelin The story of the Pied Piper of Hamelin comes in the form of a poem by Robert Browning. A poem which has been retold countless times, and has been used for inspiration in many other literary works. The primary theme of the story is to "The folly of man". The secondary themes to support this are Greed, the loss of a generation of children, and the suggestion of heaven to which the children go. This retelling of this story, in the form of a film focuses on the story from the viewpoint of the pied piper instead of the villagers. The summary of the original poem is as followed. The town of Hamelin in Brunswick is introduced and it is told that there was a serious vermin problem 500 years ago. Rats overran the city to the point where the villagers demanded the mayor and the councilmen that the rats be gotten rid of. The mayor cannot find a way to get rid of the rats until a stranger whom says he can't in odd clothing arrives at the village. The stranger says that he can fix the rodent problem by using a "secret charm" and asks for money in return, to which the mayor agrees to pay. The piper proceeds lead the rats out of the town by using his magical instrument and returns to the mayor for his reward, to which the mayor refuses to pay the full amount saying that he did not kill the rodents. Why would a man disrespect a symbol such as the American flag, that represents freedom, liberty and democracy? Was he protected by the constitution's first amendment? The Supreme Court answered all these questions we had by voting in favor of Johnson. Johnson's intentions were only political, and he as the freedom of speech. The Supreme Court was correct on this decision on letting Johnson go, since he was protected by his amendments, and no matter what the action was, if the amendment gives us the right, we should be entitled to our freedoms. In August of 1984, supporters came to Dallas Texas to come to the Republican National Convention, where President Ronald Reagan was being elected to run for president for a second round. Outside of these supporters for the presidential leaders were protesters. These protesters were angry with the new Reagan Policies. Protesters marched the streets chanting "Red, white, and blue, we spit on you!" Kicking over flower pots, spray painting walls, and they acted out nuclear attacks. When the protesters came to the front of city hall, 100 people circled around to watch a man by the name of Gregory Lee Johnson pour kerosene over an American Flag and begin to burn it. Many people stood in awe as Johnson stood next to our desecrating flag. 45 minutes after Johnson was arrested by Texas police. The aftermath of the flag ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
