The document outlines a student's idea for their final media production project (FMP). The student will create a podcast episode telling the Japanese folk tale "The Bamboo Cutter". They are passionate about Japanese culture and want to both entertain and educate listeners. Their influences include storytelling podcasts that use sound effects, music, and facts to immerse the audience. The student aims to transport listeners to another world through a mysterious, otherworldly tone set by their narration and Japanese-inspired music. They want listeners to feel intrigued and enjoy the blend of fact and fiction in the story. The student chooses this audio-focused style because they excel at post-production editing and research, which will enhance their creative skills for
A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

1. Tell me in no more than20 words, what is your
FMP idea?
I will create a podcaston Japanesefolk tales,
specifically producingan episodeon the Japanese
legend called “the bamboo cutter.”
Why have youdecided to makeit? I am passionateaboutJapan andits history as I
have a specific love for Japaneseart, anime, and
culture. I havealways enjoyed folklore stories
especially ones from aroundthe world. My
objective is to entertain and educate people
equally. Finally, I havehad a lot of ideas with
respect to the finer details, suchas sound effects,
music, and voice effects for the podcast. My idea
is heavily basedaroundediting over story, butthis
project will allow me to concentrate on both
elements and challenge me to the fullest.
What aboutyourproject makesit importantto
you?
This is my final project; it is by far the most
important piece of work I will create duringmy
time on this course. I will experience a level of
planningthat requires meticulousdetail, so the
more elaborate techniquesI can use, the more
relevant Audio Productionandsound becomesto
me and my potential future in the industry. This
year I havebeen able to express my individuality
via my projects and havebeen entrusted to
present my capabilities. This project with
challenge me to the fullest.
In the summerof 2020, I developed a YouTube
channel where I read fanfiction. This hasenabled
me to gain personalexperience within the field
along with receiving feedback from a worldwide
audience. This experience hasbroadenedmy
horizonsandgiven me a clearer indicationof the
pathI wish to take in the future.
Outline someof the initial influences onyour
idea/work and somepotential research targets
(remember, research is notjust a paper-based
activity)
My initial influences include:
The podcastTales / The entire style of the show is
an influence. This is a podcastbased solely around
telling folktales which is what my podcastto be
basedaround.
The podcastLore / Podcast- This is another
podcastthattells stories, but it also examines
historical facts within the stories which is another
factor I want to include in my podcast.
Joe Hasashi/ Music- I have been an avidfan of
Joe Hasashifor many years and since the story I
will be reading, and researching is of Japanese
2. origin I would like to haveJapanese styledmusic
for the backgroundmusic.
The podcast Alice is notDead – This podcast
makesthe listener feel as if they are a part of the
story as well as the music setting the scene for
every new event which is what I planned todo
with my podcast.
The podcast the truth– This podcast makesthe
listener feel as if they are watching films but with
their ears with the realistic soundeffects and
music toset the tonewhich is, what I plannedto
do with my podcast.
What effect do youwant to haveon your
audience when they see yourproject?
I want my audience to feel awestruck, interested
andintrigued by whatthey have listened to. I
want to add facts intothe episode to makethe
story more groundedin truth andto make it
realistic. ButI also just want the listener to come
away havingenjoyedwhat they havejust listened
to. The mainpurposeof audiostories is to
entertain people and that is my goal. I also want
to engage the audience enoughto encourage
them tocontinue to listen to further podcasts.
Describe the tone/mood/styleofyourproject
[which productiontechniques/characteristicsare
youemploying?]
For the larger partof the work, I want to create
the sense of mystery, otherworldly and legendary
tone in order can makemy audience feel like they
have been transportedtoanotherworld. This will
be done mostly by my use of soundandchoice of
narration. Usingmusic thatis related to the
Japaneseculture will makethe audience feel as if
they are in Japanitself, as well as usingauthentic
soundeffects to makeit soundmorerealistic.
Mostaudioprojects I have workedon tend tobe
factual, so I wantto differentiate my work by
blendingfact and fiction. Combiningfact and
fiction is interesting tome when I create my
podcastthis way it will excel in a way my previous
work hasnot.
Why have youdecided to makeyour project in
this style?
Audio styleis what I work with best. A lot of the
work is donein in post-production. Inaddition,
there is a large element of research required
which I enjoy. The creative elements of editing are
anotherfeature I like to experiment with it also
requires a lot of work, butI feel thiswill enhance
my work in my final project.
