Hot and Steam Boiler (PSE800 series) Safety Controls improvement, July 2014 – December 2015
Client: Xylem Inc. Role: Project Lead (Hardware and Software)
Tools: Microchip Mplab, Altium and In house EMI/EMC instruments
Project Description:
Steam boiler safety controls used for multiple applications. Due to steam, these controls have a foam
detection algorithm for early boiler shutdown to prevent dry fire. These controls were failing in the field
due to number of unknown issues.
Responsibilities
 Gathered field data, performed root cause analysis and simulated the situation in the lab to
determine effective solutions.
 Performed design review (HW & SW) analysis discerns the known root causes of the field issues.
 Designed “Smart Algorithm to Determine Steam Boiler Water Condition”, a unique algorithm which
is now under provisional patent.
 Performed software architecture design, implementation and testing.
 Handled EMI/EMC testing – RS, CS, RE, CE, EFT, Surge and ESD testing as per the available
standard.
 Handled UL353 documentation and approval.
Residential Valve Remote Monitoring and Control System, September 2013 – June 2014

Product used to measure all water inlets and outlets temperature, pressure and flow. Define leakage in
system, per event water flow, total flow in a day and prevent house flooding by turning on and off
master solenoid valves. Entire system is accessible remotely through dynamic IP and through cloud.
