Reporters
WELCOME TO
OUR CLASS!
Hi! We are Group 1 of BEED-2B in the
subject of Teaching English in the
Elementary Grades through Literature.
This e-Portfolio contains information
about our topics, which are the "General
Principles in Teaching Literacy at the
Elementary Level" and the "Significance
of Literature in Teaching Children."
Aside from the information about our
topics, you can also see here the
procedure, or the process, of how we did
our reporting as a group.
We hope that you enjoy browsing
through our e-Portfolio.
General Principles in Teaching
Literacy in the Elementary Level
All children have the right to
exemplary classroom literacy
instruction that builds on and
expands their content knowledge,
real-world experiences, and
interests while leveraging the
knowledge and resources they
bring to the classroom from their
families and communities.
There are 7 General Principles in Teaching in
the Elementary Level these are:
1. Teach with a comprehensive and balanced
approach to reading and writing.
2. Foster opportunities for readers to learn from
texts.
3. Build on children’s home, community, and
cultural experiences and knowledge.
4. Use assessment judiciously and strategically to
inform instruction.
5. Create opportunities for language
development.
6. Design a whole-child approach to literacy
across environments.
7. Develop and support excellent teachers.
Significance of Literature in
Teaching Children
Giving children access to all
varieties of literature is extremely
important for their success.
Educators, parents, and community
members should help students
develop a love and passion for
reading. Not only is reading
literature important in developing
cognitive skills to be able to
succeed in a school or work setting,
but it is valuable for other reasons
as well.
Children’s literature is important
because it provides students with
opportunities to respond to
literature; it gives students
appreciation about their own
cultural heritage as well as those
of others; it helps students
develop emotional intelligence
and creativity; it nurtures growth
and development of the
student’s personality and social
skills; and it transmits important
literature and themes from one
generation to the next.
In terms of communication, we used the
messenger app to talk to each other in order to
plan out everything for our report. We talked about
a lot of things in our report. We also discuss the
flow of reporting, such as who will do the
introduction, who will pray, and the order of
reporters.
We are also chatting with each other in the GC to ask for
the opinions and permissions of everyone on every
decision that we're going to make for the reporting. Like,
for example, in creating a power point presentation, the
member who's assigned to making it will ask the
members of the group if the design of the power point
presentation is okay. Or is it too dull? Or is there any
other information that they need to put in? Or slides that
need to be removed? Something like that.
The good thing here is, although at first it's very awkward
since we're not really that close, as we talked and planned
about the report, everyone is initiating and participating.
Every member is voicing their suggestions and opinions,
asking about ways they can help.

To be honest, we really struggled with the
techniques and strategies that we're going
to use in our report. This is one of the
parts of the process where we are stuck
for days thinking about what we should
do. Aside from the creative PowerPoint
presentation, what should we do to deliver
the presentation in a creative manner? In
which case, we can capture the
audience's attention. It was really hard.
Our heads are aching. Not until we
decided to just sing. Actually, the song that
we sang in the report is not ours. We are
not the ones who did it. We just saw it on
the internet and decided to imitate it (by
the way, here's the link for the original
video: https://youtu.be/pmbwCHBd1ZA)
I don't know if you can consider that
creative, but we thought that it's
something new so we decided to go for
it.
Since you mentioned that our
report should be applied in a
real-life situation, each of us
thinks thoroughly. We tried to
dissect every part of our
reporting in order to relate it
to a real -life situation and to
make the audience understand
our report better.
IN GENERAL, THE PRINCIPLES OF
TEACHING LITERACY AT THE ELEMENTARY
LEVEL HAVE MANY BENEFITS FOR OUR
STUDENTS. IT WILL IMPROVE THEIR
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY. BECAUSE OF
THIS LITERACY, WE CAN CREATE
OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR PUPILS. WE CAN
ENSURE THAT THEY CAN READ AND WRITE
THEIR OWN PHRASES AND HAVE AN
UNDERSTANDING OF OTHER LANGUAGES.
WE, AS A TEACHER, WE NEED TO HAVE
MORE KNOWLEDGE OR SHOULD I SAY,
BETTER TO MASTER THE MTB-MLE
BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT OUR PUPILS
HAVE NATIVE LANGUAGE IN THIS
LITERACY. IT SAYS THAT A TEACHER
NEEDS TO ASSIST HIS PUPILS AND HELP
THEM TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE
TEACHING. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO
LEARN THIS TOPIC.
@reallygreatsite
Literature will them develop critical thinking skills.
Literature allows them to perceive ideas and evaluate
their worth, to take a stand on issues raised in literary
texts, and to weigh the truth and consequences of a
particular viewpoint that you are exposed to.
In Culture and heritage, stories are handed down from
one generation to the next. More over, through reading,
children can learn the history of their ancestors. They
can also learn and compare the beliefs, habits and
customs. Just like what is mentioned earlier literature
helps children to develop an appreciation of their own
cultural heritage as well as those of others.
Here in our country, the Philippines, we have a very
diverse culture. What will you do if you have a transferee
classmate from, let's say, Baguio? Obviously, our culture
and their culture are completely different. So, by reading
this type of genre or any book about culture, you will
have a better idea of how you will interact with your new
classmates.

  • 2. General Principles in Teaching Literacy in the Elementary Level Significance of Literature in Teaching Children Reporters
  • 4. Hi! We are Group 1 of BEED-2B in the subject of Teaching English in the Elementary Grades through Literature. This e-Portfolio contains information about our topics, which are the "General Principles in Teaching Literacy at the Elementary Level" and the "Significance of Literature in Teaching Children." Aside from the information about our topics, you can also see here the procedure, or the process, of how we did our reporting as a group. We hope that you enjoy browsing through our e-Portfolio.
  • 5. General Principles in Teaching Literacy in the Elementary Level All children have the right to exemplary classroom literacy instruction that builds on and expands their content knowledge, real-world experiences, and interests while leveraging the knowledge and resources they bring to the classroom from their families and communities.
  • 6. There are 7 General Principles in Teaching in the Elementary Level these are: 1. Teach with a comprehensive and balanced approach to reading and writing. 2. Foster opportunities for readers to learn from texts. 3. Build on children’s home, community, and cultural experiences and knowledge. 4. Use assessment judiciously and strategically to inform instruction. 5. Create opportunities for language development. 6. Design a whole-child approach to literacy across environments. 7. Develop and support excellent teachers.
  • 7. Significance of Literature in Teaching Children Giving children access to all varieties of literature is extremely important for their success. Educators, parents, and community members should help students develop a love and passion for reading. Not only is reading literature important in developing cognitive skills to be able to succeed in a school or work setting, but it is valuable for other reasons as well.
  • 8. Children’s literature is important because it provides students with opportunities to respond to literature; it gives students appreciation about their own cultural heritage as well as those of others; it helps students develop emotional intelligence and creativity; it nurtures growth and development of the student’s personality and social skills; and it transmits important literature and themes from one generation to the next.
  • 9. In terms of communication, we used the messenger app to talk to each other in order to plan out everything for our report. We talked about a lot of things in our report. We also discuss the flow of reporting, such as who will do the introduction, who will pray, and the order of reporters. We are also chatting with each other in the GC to ask for the opinions and permissions of everyone on every decision that we're going to make for the reporting. Like, for example, in creating a power point presentation, the member who's assigned to making it will ask the members of the group if the design of the power point presentation is okay. Or is it too dull? Or is there any other information that they need to put in? Or slides that need to be removed? Something like that. The good thing here is, although at first it's very awkward since we're not really that close, as we talked and planned about the report, everyone is initiating and participating. Every member is voicing their suggestions and opinions, asking about ways they can help.

This is one of the parts of the process where we are stuck for days thinking about what we should do. Aside from the creative PowerPoint presentation, what should we do to deliver the presentation in a creative manner? In which case, we can capture the audience's attention. It was really hard. Our heads are aching. Not until we decided to just sing. Actually, the song that we sang in the report is not ours. We are not the ones who did it. We just saw it on the internet and decided to imitate it (by the way, here's the link for the original video: https://youtu.be/pmbwCHBd1ZA) I don't know if you can consider that creative, but we thought that it's something new so we decided to go for it.
  • 12. Since you mentioned that our report should be applied in a real-life situation, each of us thinks thoroughly. We tried to dissect every part of our reporting in order to relate it to a real -life situation and to make the audience understand our report better.
  • 13. IN GENERAL, THE PRINCIPLES OF TEACHING LITERACY AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL HAVE MANY BENEFITS FOR OUR STUDENTS. IT WILL IMPROVE THEIR KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY. BECAUSE OF THIS LITERACY, WE CAN CREATE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR PUPILS. WE CAN ENSURE THAT THEY CAN READ AND WRITE THEIR OWN PHRASES AND HAVE AN UNDERSTANDING OF OTHER LANGUAGES. WE, AS A TEACHER, WE NEED TO HAVE MORE KNOWLEDGE OR SHOULD I SAY, BETTER TO MASTER THE MTB-MLE BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THAT OUR PUPILS HAVE NATIVE LANGUAGE IN THIS LITERACY. IT SAYS THAT A TEACHER NEEDS TO ASSIST HIS PUPILS AND HELP THEM TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU ARE TEACHING. IT IS IMPORTANT FOR THEM TO LEARN THIS TOPIC. @reallygreatsite

Literature allows them to perceive ideas and evaluate their worth, to take a stand on issues raised in literary texts, and to weigh the truth and consequences of a particular viewpoint that you are exposed to. In Culture and heritage, stories are handed down from one generation to the next. More over, through reading, children can learn the history of their ancestors. They can also learn and compare the beliefs, habits and customs. Just like what is mentioned earlier literature helps children to develop an appreciation of their own cultural heritage as well as those of others. Here in our country, the Philippines, we have a very diverse culture. What will you do if you have a transferee classmate from, let's say, Baguio? Obviously, our culture and their culture are completely different. So, by reading this type of genre or any book about culture, you will have a better idea of how you will interact with your new classmates.
