Joseph Conrad s s novel Heart of Darkness portrays an image of Africa that is dark
and inhuman. Not only does he describe the actual, physical continent of Africa as so
hopeless and so dark, so impenetrable to human thought, so pitiless to human
weakness , (Conrad 154) as though the continent could neither breed nor support any
true human life. Conrad lived through a time when European colonies were scattered

Having year round school would be beneficial educationally, but personally as a
student I believe it s not a good idea. Kids love having a big break off school to
have the opportunity to go places. I usually travel in the summer and if I only had
3 4 weeks it wouldn t work out. Last summer I went to Texas and I wouldn t have
been able to do most of the activities I did because they only had them on certain
days. Also 5 summers ago my family and I flew out to Germany. We spent two

The legacy that residential schools left behind in Canada was not a positive one.
Residential schools, up until the day that the last one closed in 1996, were supported
and funded by the Canadian government. The aboriginals who attended these schools
were treated unethically, and, as a result, the Aboriginals had many bitter feelings of
resentment towards everyone else living in Canada. The immoral treatment of the
First Nationspeople by the Canadian government severely impacted relations between
Canadians and Aboriginals. The severe short and long term effects of the residential
school system on Aboriginals in Canada, along with the fact that there was no
apology for the government s corrupt treatment of the First Nations people until mid
2008 taught Canadians about respect for foreign cultures and how to treat others
equally.
What are residential schools? Residential schools were schools that were
subsidized by the Canadian government that had a main goal of assimilating
Aboriginal children into Canadian culture. The first residential schools were
established in New France, however the word residential schools refers to the

While one of husbands is visiting her, she would put weapons in front of her house,
to notify the other husbands jus in case they decided to visit her at the time when
one of her other husbands was there. Instead of relying on her husbands to protect
her, provide her with food, money and things husbands would normally provide, the
Nayar women relied on their brothers or sisters.
Comparing these cultures to each other, you can see that they are very different.
For one the Ik culture don t have concern for family at all while the Pomo Indians
think life is all about family but the Nayar Society didn t seem to think of
themselves as family but as associates to each other to carry the generation on.
From looking at the positive views on family, I would say that the Pomo Indians are
the most caring culture out of the three cultures, and while the Ik may seem like a
horrible culture, I would say that the Nayar Society is the worst as it seems like a
disorganised and uncaring culture.
When it comes to my culture, we believe that family is very, very important. We
believe that you need your family to be there to support you through the good and
bad times and to help you and train you as you grow up. You also need your family

1949 after the great depression. People were struggling with society and poverty
around the world at this time. Miller s characters in Death of a Salesman also have
struggles with society, making the play relatable to ordinary people and connecting
emotionally to a big audience. Miller uses several universal themes that can relate to
mankind from that time period to present day. The play has a deeper meaning than
what appears on the surface, when the play is acted out we see the thoughts and

The character of Willy shows the theme of lacking awareness of reality in Death of
a Salesman. Willy s character is constantly in and out of reality. In act one, line 22
Willy s character says so I went on again and five minutes later I m dreamin again,
