“Battle of the Butt”
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
CURRENT, VOLTAGE, AND
RESISTANCE
OHM’S LAW
OBJECTIVES:
•Identify and differentiate current, resistance
and voltage,
•Determine what is Ohm’s Law,
•Solve problems related to Ohm’s Law
•Current
- is the rate of flow of electric charges
one point to another in a circuit.
- it is what flows on a wire or conductor
- it is measured in Amperes and it has
positive and negative terminal
•Voltage
– it is the difference in charge between two
points
- it is what makes the current move
Example: Battery
Resistance
– determines how much current will flow
through a component
- is a material’s tendency to resist the flow of
charge (current)
Example: Resistor
•Ohm’s Law
– in a simple circuit, voltage is directly
proportional to current,
where V=IR
CURRENT VOLTAGE RESISTANCE
- Amperes - Volts - Ohms
- I - V - Ω
- I =

𝐼
•Example 1:
If a circuit has a resistance of 44 Ω and a
current of 5 A, what is its voltage?
Given: Solution:
Resistance(R) = 44 Ω V = IR
Current(I) = 5 A V = 44Ω x 5A
V = 220V
Required:
Voltage(V) = ?
Problem 2:
An electric fan has a resistance of 3 kΩ and a
voltage rating of 220 volts. What is the current needed
to operate the electric fan?
Given:
R = 3 k Ω
V = 220 V
Required:
I = ?
Solution:
Conversion of k Ω - Ω
3 k Ω x
1000 Ω
1 k Ω
= 3000 Ω
Solving for the required:
I =
𝑉
𝑅
I =
220 𝑉
3000 Ω
I = 0.07333333 or 0.073 A
• TRY THIS:
Problem 1.
What is the amount of current (I) in this circuit?
• Problem 2:
In the Province of Antique, Akelco is one of the
electric energy distributor here in Libertad which
each household 220 volts of voltage and 60 A of current.
By applying your knowledge on Ohm’s Law, solve for the
resistance.
