Easter By 4KP WCPS
Why do we celebrate Easter? We remember that Jesus died on the cross. On Easter Sunday, we remember that Jesus rose from the dead. Easter comes at the end of Lent.
What symbols do we use and why? Rabbits, chicks and lambs. All these animals are born in Spring and are symbols of new life.
More symbols. The cross - because Jesus died on the cross. We eat hot cross buns - the cross on the top reminds us of Jesus’ death.
Even more symbols. Easter eggs! These represent new life (chicks hatch from eggs) They also help us to remember the stone in front of the tomb that was rolled away. (We also eat them because they are yummy!)
What do we do to celebrate Easter? We give and receive Easter eggs. We decorate Easter eggs. We have special meals together. We have Easter egg hunts in the garden. We visit relatives. We send Easter cards. We eat LOTS of CHOCOLATE!! We can eat all the things we gave up for Lent again.
How do other people celebrate Easter in England? Easter egg rolling. Go to church. Go to a special service at sunrise. Make Easter gardens Decorate the church with flowers
What have we learned about Easter in Spain? In Spain there are processions (pasos) with statues on floats carried by strong men for over a week before Easter Day. People become penitentes and walk through the streets in chains or barefoot. People eat cakes called monas.
Comparing Easter at WCPS and CPCHD. We eat Easter eggs and hot cross buns. We have Easter egg hunts. We send Easter cards. Some of us might go to church. Some of us go Easter egg rolling. We have processions with statues from the Easter story each day in the week leading up to Easter. We eat ‘monas’ - special cakes.
