This document discusses various barriers to effective listening in oral communication. It identifies four main types of barriers: physical, physiological, linguistic, and cultural. Physical barriers include noise and physical discomfort that distract the listener. Physiological barriers relate to the listener's mental state, such as feelings of anger or anxiety. Linguistic barriers occur when the message is in a language the listener does not understand well. Cultural barriers can arise when the speaker and listener have different cultural backgrounds and frames of reference. Overcoming these barriers is important for minimizing misunderstandings in oral communication.
