YouTube has become a crucial part of learning and teaching since it was purchased by Google in November 2006. Videos on almost any subject can be found: from learning about Pythagoras's theorem, to setting up a satellite dish, to figuring out how to draw a pie chart in Excel, to learning a new language. YouTube has become a "go to" place for learners - many of who prefer to use YouTube for learning instead of attending a class. The vast library of educational content that YouTube has become is very often a "first-stop shop" for learners, who have become adept at finding the content they need. For educators, YouTube as a resource poses different challenges. Many educators will use YouTube as a resource by pointing students to videos such as a poet reading his/her own poem, or to a scientist showing how an experiment works. Many other educators create their own content based on classroom material and publish to YouTube.
For 10 years the author has been using YouTube to create content in subject areas such as Statistics, Project Management, and Business Analysis, to augment classroom content. In this presentation he will reflect on his own experiences, and those of over 9,500,000 learners, on learning and teaching with YouTube.

Within the Institute, we have large projects running which also bring learning to wider audiences, allowing us to understand much more about how learners work with open educational resources, both in terms of consumption and creation, allowing them to cross many apparent boundaries between formal, informal, non-formal content, learner and teacher, guide and mentor, personal and institutional.

Our A2 Key students can practise their speaking skills while they familiarise themselves with the revised version of the A2 Key exam, which will be launched in 2020. Loggers trapped inside Marojejy National Park with dwindling food supplies have turned to hunting lemurs, including critically endangered Silky Sifaka, to survive. One logger reported that they have run out of rice and have not been paid for dangerous work, floating heavy logs down rivers without equipment. The logger questioned why China, who receives the logs, does not help the loggers transport more logs out of the forest if they are benefiting from the operation.

Madagscar Elvis Night
An Elvis tribute night will be held on February 24th from 7-10:30 pm at Coopers' Company and Coborn School Theatre to raise money to build a school in Madagascar. Tickets cost £12 each and can be purchased from George West or by completing the ticket request form and returning it with cash or a cheque made payable to Coopers' Company and Coborn School to Mrs. Clark in the finance office. The event will include musical entertainment, fun, games, dancing, and attendees should bring their own drinks and nibbles.
Bangladesh Climate Change
Bangladesh is highly vulnerable to climate change due to its location in a delta region with high population density and most areas being less than 5 meters above sea level. Climate change is expected to exacerbate existing threats like sea level rise, stronger cyclones, heavier monsoon rains, flooding from the Ganges and Brahmaputra Rivers, and drought in northern areas. This will negatively impact the lives and livelihoods of Bangladeshis, many of whom work in fishing and rice farming. Heavier rains could wash away homes and crops, while flooding and drought could destroy harvests and force people into debt.

I develop the Ruby programming language, RubyGems, and Bundler, which are package managers for Ruby. Today, I will introduce how to enhance the security of your application using open-source software (OSS) examples from Ruby and RubyGems.
The first topic is CVE (Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures). I have published CVEs many times. But what exactly is a CVE? I'll provide a basic understanding of CVEs and explain how to detect and handle vulnerabilities in OSS.
Next, let's discuss package managers. Package managers play a critical role in the OSS ecosystem. I'll explain how to manage library dependencies in your application.

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you an invitation to the 5th Power Grid Model Meet-up, scheduled for 6th June 2024. This event will adopt a hybrid format, allowing participants to join us either through an online Mircosoft Teams session or in person at TU/e located at Den Dolech 2, Eindhoven, Netherlands. The meet-up will be hosted by Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e), a research university specializing in engineering science & technology.
Power Grid Model
The global energy transition is placing new and unprecedented demands on Distribution System Operators (DSOs). Alongside upgrades to grid capacity, processes such as digitization, capacity optimization, and congestion management are becoming vital for delivering reliable services.
Power Grid Model is an open source project from Linux Foundation Energy and provides a calculation engine that is increasingly essential for DSOs. It offers a standards-based foundation enabling real-time power systems analysis, simulations of electrical power grids, and sophisticated what-if analysis. In addition, it enables in-depth studies and analysis of the electrical power grid’s behavior and performance. This comprehensive model incorporates essential factors such as power generation capacity, electrical losses, voltage levels, power flows, and system stability.
Power Grid Model is currently being applied in a wide variety of use cases, including grid planning, expansion, reliability, and congestion studies. It can also help in analyzing the impact of renewable energy integration, assessing the effects of disturbances or faults, and developing strategies for grid control and optimization.
