The study investigated the design optimization of these hybrid systems, focusing on understanding solar radiation patterns, identifying geographical influences on solar radiation, formulating a mathematical model for system optimization, and determining the optimal configuration of PV panels and pumped hydro storage. Through a comparative analysis approach and eight weeks of data collection, the study addressed key research questions related to solar radiation patterns and optimal system design. The findings highlighted regions with heightened solar radiation levels, showcasing substantial potential for power generation and emphasizing the system's efficiency. Optimizing system design significantly boosted power generation, promoted renewable energy utilization, and enhanced energy storage capacity. The study underscored the benefits of optimizing hybrid solar PV panels and pumped hydro energy supply systems for sustainable energy usage. Hierarchical Digital Twin of a Naval Power SystemKerry Sado
A hierarchical digital twin of a Naval DC power system has been developed and experimentally verified. Similar to other state-of-the-art digital twins, this technology creates a digital replica of the physical system executed in real-time or faster, which can modify hardware controls. However, its advantage stems from distributing computational efforts by utilizing a hierarchical structure composed of lower-level digital twin blocks and a higher-level system digital twin. Each digital twin block is associated with a physical subsystem of the hardware and communicates with a singular system digital twin, which creates a system-level response. By extracting information from each level of the hierarchy, power system controls of the hardware were reconfigured autonomously. This hierarchical digital twin development offers several advantages over other digital twins, particularly in the field of naval power systems. The hierarchical structure allows for greater computational efficiency and scalability while the ability to autonomously reconfigure hardware controls offers increased flexibility and responsiveness. The hierarchical decomposition and models utilized were well aligned with the physical twin, as indicated by the maximum deviations between the developed digital twin hierarchy and the hardware.

CFD analysis is incredibly effective at solving mysteries and improving the performance of complex systems!
Here's a great example: At a large natural gas-fired power plant, where they use waste heat to generate steam and energy, they were puzzled that their boiler wasn't producing as much steam as expected.
R&R and Tetra Engineering Group Inc. were asked to solve the issue with reduced steam production.
An inspection had shown that a significant amount of hot flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes, where the heat was supposed to be transferred.
R&R Consult conducted a CFD analysis, which revealed that 6.3% of the flue gas was bypassing the boiler tubes without transferring heat. The analysis also showed that the flue gas was instead being directed along the sides of the boiler and between the modules that were supposed to capture the heat. This was the cause of the reduced performance.
Based on our results, Tetra Engineering installed covering plates to reduce the bypass flow. This improved the boiler's performance and increased electricity production.

coaches at 750 Volt independently.
200VA Instrument transformer are provided to supply
instrument like frequency meter , AEL , KW meter ect.
Alternator Earth leakage relay are provided to shut down
Engine in case of fault.
The ACB are provided to control Alternator out put supply.
Separate 60 KVA Transformer are provided to step down
750 volt to 415 volt for Radiator motor / Ventilation motor
operation .
Feeder contactor are provided to control out put from
power car, which is protected with Feeder Earth leakage
relay.

transformer terminal lug normal temperature is 30.80
˚ C ,Y phase temperature was 62.90 ˚ C of Y phase
,lug was loose –tighten the lug. (delta t=32.10 ˚ C)
39. 17.Excessive neutral current in power car
Trials were conducted and it was observed that about
100 Amp full load current was flowing in the neutral
feeder.
This was attributed to third harmonics generated by the
alternators as the loads are fully balanced.
A reactor was designed by KEL and placed in the
alternator circuit. The neutral current was reduced to 1.4
Amps only.
With this it was now possible to make the earth leakage
protection system fully functional. Earth faults were
created and the protection scheme was found to be fully
functional.
M/s KEL will supply these reactors to W Rly to be
provided on all power cars.
41. INSULATION MONITORING DEVICE
•Insulation Monitoring Device is being provided in the Imported LHB Coaches, which
gives indication in case the insulation of the system is less than the preset value of the
device.
•Insulation measuring device monitors the insulation resistance of unearthed AC three
phase four wire AC .
•A measuring Special Hi frequency-low voltage is created in the device. One pole of
measuring device connected to the Star point and the other pole is connected to earth
through an electronic measuring circuit.
•These terminals are permanently monitored and in case of failure (when ohmic
insulation between mains and earth falls below the set value and closes the measuring
circuits) a signal LED flashes and a luminous display on the switch cabinet door is
activated.

Problem The Engine was not stopping when radiator motor
gets failed.
Solution The control Circuit was suitably modified to ensure
the engine tripping in the event of radiator motor
failure.
48. 15.Isolation valve for diesel tank in power car
Diesel tank consists of two halves connected through a
pipe.
There has been a case were entire diesel has been
wasted due to damage to tank due to cattle run over.
Now a isolation valve has been provided in between the
two halves to avoid this waste of diesel in cases of
exigencies.
Now a days RCF providing Metal flexible pipe line in
place of rigid steel pipe line, which get chocked within
year as it is meant for water.

the breaker of DG sets
Two smoke detectors have been provided in the
power car. One in the engine portion and other in the
switch board cabinet. At present, on detection of
smoke, an alarm gets activated. It has not been
interlocked with the trip circuit of the breakers to shut
down the DG set.
