1: Motivation 2: Methodology
• Within the course of “Geografia C”
we’ve carried out a study called
Sertã: yesterday, today and
challenges ahead - a cultural
Landscape”
• Sertã is a village with high tourism
potential, due to its food,
craftsmanship and natural
landscapes. Its story and traditions
also draw the tourists’ interest
• We collected historical data on legends, traditions and
monuments
• The latter was the most demanding task, since despite the
existence of several historical features of interest, much
of their historical data is lost, unknown or imprecise
• Next, we surveyed the population of the Sertã’s parish, in
order to understand the degree to which they are
interested and cherish their historical references and
monuments
3: Results
• The results show an unanimous
interest towards understanding,
preserving and promoting the
cultural heritage of this regions
• However, people rarely visit an
historical place or museum, and
often because they are unaware of
their existence
4: Discussion
• The results show the need to create a space that brings
the people together with Sertã’s cultural heritage – food,
history, monuments and natural beauty
• We understand that this space should guide the tourist
towards hike trails, guided visits to local monuments, or
simply walks within areas of interest like river beaches or
other cultural treks
• This project has made us take a new perspective
regarding critical issues of our region, and that there are
always opportunities to increase the quality of life of its
citizens, and at the same time make our region more
beautiful and attractive, both culturally and economically
