The Exhibitions, Visitors Experience and Education Manager (Manager) for the Leslie-
Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art (the Museum) is responsible for assisting in the
successful mounting of exhibitions; scheduling and implementing events and educational
programming; visitors experiences, assisting in marketing and communications;
internship and volunteer coordination and the installation of exhibitions in the Wooster
Street Window Gallery. In addition, the Manager is responsible for the sale of books and
other objects at the Museum.
About the Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art
The Leslie Lohman Museum of Gay and Lesbian Art, is the first dedicated LGBTQ art
museum in the world with a mission to exhibit and preserve LGBTQ art, and foster the
artists who create it. The MUSEUM, a non-profit founded in 1987 by Charles W. Leslie and
Fritz Lohman who have supported LGBTQ artists for over 30 years, is a non-profit
organization and is exempt from taxation under section 501(c)3 of the IRS Code.
In the Main Gallery, the calendar of events includes 6-8 major exhibitions a year, film
screenings, plays, poetry readings, artist and curator talks, and panel discussions. Other
galleries include the Wooster St. Window Gallery, a street-facing gallery featuring work
by contemporary, emerging and under-represented LGBTQ artists who address issues of
gender, identity, sex and pop culture; and the Prince St. Project Space which hosts the
Leslie Lohman Studio and other smaller exhibitions.
The Museum has a collection of over 30,000 works, and an artist archive that contains
information on over 3,000 LGBTQ artists—both those represented in the collection and
others of interest to LGBTQ audiences.

2. GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – EXHIBITIONS, VISITOR EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATION
MANAGER
Whenever possible, the Manager is expected to perform their duties in accordance with
the standards set out by the New York State Board of Regents and when possible, the
American Alliance of Museums. The Manager is expected to:
• Thoroughly know the Museum, its collections, exhibitions, history, culture,
operations and constituents;
• Supervise and train volunteers, interns and part-time staff working on the
Marketing/Communications, Exhibitions, Education and Visitor Experience;
helping to develop a collegial, professional and focused environment;
• Work closely with the Deputy Director for External Relations, Deputy Director for
Programmatic Operations, Museum Director, guest curators, exhibiting artists,
other staff, and Board members, to strategize, plan and execute tasks as assigned;
• Warmly greet visitors upon their arrival;
• Perform other duties, as assigned.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – EXHIBITIONS (APPROXIMATELY 25%)
• Work closely with the Deputy Director for Programmatic Operations to assist in all
aspects of the successful installation of exhibitions in the 26 Wooster Street
location include planning, budgeting, maintaining communication and
relationships with curators and exhibiting artists, transporting and unpacking and
repacking art work, matting and framing work as needed, installing, lighting, wall
text, captions, exhibitions guides, etc.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS/EVENTS (APPROXIMENTLY
25%)
• Work with the Executive Director, curators, part-time educational personnel to
design and implement programs, events, and materials related to the Museum’s
educational endeavors. Oversees rentals as well.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – VISITOR EXPERIENCES (APPROXIMATELY 10%)
• Oversee the front desk staff which greets the public, ensuring they are informed of
their duties and Museum news, warmly greeting visitors, collecting and presenting
information regarding visitor demographics and experience.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS (APPROXIMATELY
10%)
• Work closely with the Deputy Director for External Relations to execute tasks as
assigned including graphic design of printed materials, advertisements and other
objects;
• Work closely with the Deputy Director for External Relations to execute tasks as
assigned related to social media;
• Work closely with the Deputy Director for External Relations to update the
Museum website;

3. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – INTERNSHIP AND VOLUNTEER COORDINATION
(APPROXIMATELY 10%)
• Oversee the intake and assignment of duties and responsibilities of interns and
volunteers for the Museum, including communication, interviews, job
descriptions, scheduling, and other tasks.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – WOOSTER ST WINDOW GALLERY (APPROXIMATELY
10%)
• Work with the Executive Director to oversee the successful curating, scheduling,
installation and other tasks related to the exhibition of works in the Wooster
Street Window Gallery.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – SALE OF BOOKS AND OTHER OBJECTS (APPROXIMATELY
10%)
• Oversee the successful sale of books, artists books, post cards and other objects at
the Museum, including ordering goods, tracking inventory, tracking sales, training
other staff members to conduct sales, maintaining financial records and other
responsibilities.
