The Virtual Touch Book allows users to interact with virtual 3D environments by placing physical tokens on pages in the book, connecting the tangible and virtual worlds for educational activities. An initial case study applying the system in a high school welcome course saw students using the Virtual Touch Book achieve a 20% higher correct answer rate compared to a traditional methodology. Future work will involve testing the system in different schools with teachers of varying computer skill levels to further facilitate interaction between the tangible and virtual worlds.
Virtual Touch Flystick and Primbox.
This document discusses two case studies using mixed reality tools called Virtual Touch Flystick and PrimBox to teach geometry to high school students. The tools were tested with 60 students in Spain. Evaluations found that the mixed reality approach improved student motivation and facilitated meaningful learning, especially for students with special needs. While distraction and technical requirements were challenges, the mixed reality environment promoted active, collaborative learning and better 3D spatial understanding compared to traditional methods.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in Education
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. Currently several VT2 projects have been deployed, involving an approximate number of 400 users, most of them secondary school students, and students with special education and diversity needs (reinforcement classrooms and open classrooms). Students seek information in order to build a 3D environment representing various. For example, the may construct Roman buildings, finding with what material they were built, how they were decorated, etc. The may also represent what they ate or what the ancient Romans did. Exhibition halls, gothic cathedrals, medieval castles, the first factories, laboratories or current appliances are examples of what the students have been developing in the interactive virtual world. They also wrote question and answer forms regarding the reprsented era, so that other students can take advantage of it.
