Theme Ideas Fear: this is becoming popular
within soap operas a the theme
murder is also being shown more
as this shows the social conflict
that arises due t the suspicion of
the characters and the pressure
that the killer is under. This is also
popular because it acts a plot for
the whole series and can develop
throughout as more pieces of the
puzzle are known. This relates
very much to my trailer as the
main theme is the kidnapping of
Lizzie therefore I could try to
captivate the emotional response
of her character.
Adventure theme: this
would be lighter hearted
than the fear poster as it
would show that the
characters were bound
together on an adventure
within Walton Hill. This
gives the audience a feel for
the twisting narrative of the
show without giving up the
darker themes within the
narrative.
Struggle: this will be shown
by Lutums’ struggle with
drug use. This will attract
people as they will be
emotionally engaged as they
will want to see him triumph
over the addiction and
succeed in life. This fits in
with the trailer as this
theme is also the subplot to
the program. This will be
emotionally engaging as
many people struggle with
drugs and this effects the
people around them and so
the audience may know of
someone hat relates to this
character.

Tagline

Candidate Number: 2052
Center Name: St. Andrew’s Catholic School

“seeing is deceiving”: this tagline is a
variation of the phrase ‘seeing is
believing’ and so connotes that although
Walton Hill may look picturesque it has
dark secrets to tell. This will be eye
catching as the audience will appreciate
the word play and then its meaning. This
will also be in sentence case letters
because this slogan is looking at the
general feel to the narrative and so needs
more reflection that something that
directly relets to the plot. This will be
positioned on the left edge of the poster
and will be above Lizzie. This will
intrinsically link the two elements in the
audiences mind and so they will believe
that she is an important part of the
phrase.
“Ordinary people.
Extraordinary events.”: the
reputation of this slogan
makes it very easy to
remember and is very catchy,
it is also quit minimalist in that
it is only four words long and
short sentences. The slogan
connotes that the characters
will be realistically portrayed
even when the events are
deadly. This will be in capitals
to draw the attention of the
reader and also create urgency
especially in the verbal code
‘Extraordinary events’ as this
will catch the
audiences attention
more
“how do you break a
chain if that chain is
breaking you”: this is
very subtle and so
requires a lot of though to
extract it’s meaning, this
means that the audience
will be thinking lot about
the program and so will
want to what it to find out
the meaning. The
connotations of chain are
an unbreakable force or
someone struggling with
some issue. This will
symbolise Lutums drug
use.

Image(s)
needed
For fear theme poster: a long
low angle shot of Lizzie tied to
the tree as shown in the trailer.
This will also be faded to a black
background to symbolise her
loneliness and desperation. This
will be in the bottom right hand
corner of the poste but large
enough to fill the page. The
position also connotes tee lonely
emotional position that she is in.
the setting shall be in the woods
that she is trapped in as shown
in the trailer.
For the adventure theme
poster: I will need all of
the character that feature
in the trailer and will use
medium close up shots so
that the audience can
read the facia expressions
of the characters. They
will then be edited
together so that they
overlap but they are all in
a line together as this will
connote the adventure
aspect of the plot. The
characters will be
superimposed onto a
fiery background to
symbolise the danger that
they are in.
For the struggle theme: a low angle
close up of me (as I play Lutum)
with a sad expression. The setting
will be the park bench shown in the
trailer as this is were Lutum
overdoses. This will create tension
as the question of his life and
wellbeing is raised. I will apply a soft
edge effect to make the image
bland into the black background of
the poster, this will symbolise the
struggle between Lutum n the drugs
with in represented through the
black background as this connotes
death and loneliness.
Mind Map
• Synergy with Social Media - This is important as
this creates the ‘personal relationship’ (katz) that
the audience will expect from existing products
and so it is important that I ‘repeat’ (Steve Neale)
this convention. I will do this by having the image
of the Facebook and Twitter websites followed by
the links to the soap operas pages on these sites.
• Synergy with your magazine - I will have the
website of my magazine in small text at the
bottom of the page.
Mind Map - Conclusion
YOU MUST conclude your Planning and Idea development by focusing on the following
areas:
• in response to this I will take the desired pictures for the fear based poster. For this will
need pictures of Lizzie tied to the tree. I will either do this during the filming of my trailer
or sooner depending on the availability of Lizzie or the props. I will need to organize and
arrange the props: rope to tie Lizzie, I will also source and download a suitable font for
the slogan "seeing is deceiving. I will use photoshoot CCS 5 as this will allow me to
present the poster I a professional way and also allow me to work in a professional
manor.
