To describe an object's motion, its position must first be determined by specifying its location relative to a reference frame, such as Earth or another object. An object's position is often described in relation to stationary landmarks within the reference frame, like a rocket's position to Earth. However, a non-stationary reference frame can also be used, such as describing a person's position within an airplane rather than relative to Earth.
