Uniform
Are they representive who you are ?
Just their working environments are getting different
IMAGERY INSPIRATION
office supply into design = office smart casual
So the details were inspired by pencil cases, which I
conider as essential office supply.
DESIGN INSPIRATION
The different ideas about uniforms dependigng on
where the person works became the inspiration
for the concept of optimized indoor+workwear.
There is a type of uniform, which is designed to
carry tools for the outside works, and another type of
uniform is for formality.
I was wondering what if I can combine then together.

SEOUL MONDAY
During the year off, I took an internship oppor-
tunity at a multinational company as a sales
and merchandising assistant. Through the ex-
perience, I learned how supplies meet their
customers’ demands, and how the merchan-
disers and sales people blended these two
different needs into one for their company. It
could be considered only as a fundamental
interaction of business, but I thought differ-
ently. Merchandising is not only understand-
ing and reading the customer’s demands,
various tastes of them, and sensing for trends
in the market, but also it needs overall knowl-
edge of society, culture, and economy. Mer-
chandising is the bigger picture itself, which I
knew this is what I desired. I was fascinated by
the fact that small and basic interactions are
based on the really big flow of the world. In
other words, the world is contained in the little
interaction that I would make if I become a
fashion merchandiser. Also, I found this field in
fashion industry would be perfect for my per-
sonality as well.
In 2013, I was too young to know what I
wanted to do with my life. It was about time to
think about my career path. I was only 23 years
old, and I did not know what exactly I wanted
to do in the fashion field. Even though I en-
tered fashion design program to work in the
fashion industry, which I have always been
passionate about, I was not sure if I really
wanted to be a fashion designer. It was just not
what I wanted to do for my entire life. I kept
asking to myself over and over again,”Do I
desire to be a fashion designer as I majored in
fashion design program? If I do not, what do I
want to do then?” So I took a year off from the
university where I was attending to take some
time to find what I really was passionate about.
At that time, I did not know it would be the
turning point of my life.
But I did not make this decision impulsively
only based on the internship experience. It
took me couple years of consideration
through other experiences. Considering my
educational background, I realized my
knowledge of fashion merchandising and
sales needed to be specialized through more
experience in the field and educational op-
portunity. So I looked up several options such
as an AA degree, master’s degree and in-
ternship programs for experiences, and I
found there is an intern program for a year at
Papaya Clothing that was posted on a U.S
website. I instinctively knew the program was
what I wanted because I wanted to gain
more experiences before I decided what the
next step of my career would be. Then, I
moved to LA for the internship program in
2015. I think it was the best and the biggest
decision that I have ever made in my life. The
one-year internship program offered such
good opportunities to learn about the cus-
tomers’ demands, various tastes of their con-
sumers, and sensing for trends in the US
market.
I think the best part of interning in a US indus-
try was it is much bigger and wider market
comparing to the market in Korea. For exam-
ple, in the US market, the companies pro-
duce various design lines considering their
customers’ preferences based on their cul-
tural diversity. I thought it was very attractive
part of the business in this market by com-
paring to the fashion business in Korea, which
is more likely to focus on a mainstream fash-
ion trend. More and more I am learning
about fashion sales and merchandising, I am
getting more and more fascinated by this
field. And, I knew this is the where I want to
go with my career and this is the time to gain
professional knowledge about this field by a
great educational program. This is why I am
interested in Merchandising and Marketing
program.
To answer the rhetorical question in the be-
ginning of this essay that I asked myself, I
chose to step up before I make a huge deci-
sion for my future. I took a job opportunity as
a fashion merchandising and sales assistant
in a multinational company in Korea for a
year, and I decided to explore. So I am here
in the States. I had one-year experience at
Papaya clothing, which is a multinational
company. Also, I am writing this essay to
make myself more valuable in the future fash-
ion industry through the Merchandising and
Marketing program at FIDM.

So I looked up several options such as an AA degree, master’s degree and in- ternship programs for experiences, and I found there is an intern program for a year at Papaya Clothing that was posted on a U.S website. I instinctively knew the program was what I wanted because I wanted to gain more experiences before I decided what the next step of my career would be. Then, I moved to LA for the internship program in 2015. I think it was the best and the biggest decision that I have ever made in my life. The one-year internship program offered such good opportunities to learn about the cus- tomers’ demands, various tastes of their con- sumers, and sensing for trends in the US market. I think the best part of interning in a US indus- try was it is much bigger and wider market comparing to the market in Korea. For exam- ple, in the US market, the companies pro- duce various design lines considering their customers’ preferences based on their cul- tural diversity. I thought it was very attractive part of the business in this market by com- paring to the fashion business in Korea, which is more likely to focus on a mainstream fash- ion trend. More and more I am learning about fashion sales and merchandising, I am getting more and more fascinated by this field. And, I knew this is the where I want to go with my career and this is the time to gain professional knowledge about this field by a great educational program. This is why I am interested in Merchandising and Marketing program.
  • 26. To answer the rhetorical question in the be- ginning of this essay that I asked myself, I chose to step up before I make a huge deci- sion for my future. I took a job opportunity as a fashion merchandising and sales assistant in a multinational company in Korea for a year, and I decided to explore. So I am here in the States. I had one-year experience at Papaya clothing, which is a multinational company. Also, I am writing this essay to make myself more valuable in the future fash- ion industry through the Merchandising and Marketing program at FIDM.
