Thank you for considering me for this internship. Here
is a collection of case studies from a range of projects I
completed at Stanford University in product design.

Product Design has allowed me to channel my
artistic impulses into a methodical, systematic
and eminently applied way. I firmly believe
that a designer must be responsive to the
society around her, combining creative design
and ethnographic research. Experience is a
great treatsure chest of ideas, but innovation
demands a continuous search for the treasure
troves no one has thought to look for.

i am...
observant
In order to design I had to first learn to understand what makes a person, a situation, and an action unique. An
understanding of a problem is built on observation. Through the close study of how color and light affect our perspective, I
can develop a set of skills to look at a more complex problem and achieve out new insights, a new solution.
case study 1 visual cues
insightful
to DEFINE a project means to discover what need is being
met. Eg: a family needs a way to keep tabs on and motivate ChorDoer
Household Chores -the good way
their children to complete chores, because this lays a
foundation for discipline and follow-through later.
“It is SO hard sometimes to connect what my children do in the ‘cloud’ with our lives here on the
solid earth. This seems like a good way to bridge the two.”
“A great way to show kids how work pays off.”
The Challenge: Design a cultural map for the iPhone
using the theme of Personal and Family Life. Seek ways to
help mediate communication and a sense of community.

                            case study 2 household chores
creative
The Challenge: build a tower of red plastic cups & trays.
This tower must be built upon a bucket in the pond. You
may not touch the tower or your apparatus once it has left
the edge of the pond.

case study 3 against all constraints
To Ideate and Prototype requires us to think out of the
proverbial box, There are infinite solutions; the next step is to
design the right tests to answer specific questions, and to be
unafraid to try the unconventional.

Product Design at Stanford is an engineering major, the tools at my disposal range from material science to physics. Knowing
how materials interact allows us to fathom how materials not used together before could interact. The possibilities are, truly,
limitless. An affinity to new markets and new technologies is inherent in design thinking.

innovative
• an exchangeable square
of air-drying mold fits snugly
• on a band that fits
around the palm of a child’s
hand
• after the texture is
made, leave to dry and...
• you have a memory
ready to story away
The Challenge: make an impact in the lives of young,
new parents to young toddlers. Keep in mind the business
aspect of your design, and develop a business plan.

The Product: touchTOO presents parents with a way
to engage with their children while creating memories. It
encourages children to engage with their surroundings.

Innovation requires the synthesis of insights and creative
breainstorming. eg: Parents need away to engage with their
children in documenting family memories, to transform a
spectator activity into one which involves their kids.

My work with campus groups (volunteer organizations as
well as events) has been in helping develop a brand identity

Refining a product is the result of fully understanding your
product. The examples here celebrate the values inherent
in the organizations, people and the goals they strive to
accomplish.
