Pope Francis visited Iraq from March 5-8, 2021. The document details his itinerary which included visits to Erbil, Mosul, Qaraqosh, and Baghdad. In Mosul, he prayed for victims of war at Church Square surrounded by damaged churches. In Qaraqosh, he visited the Immaculate Conception Church. In Erbil, he held mass for 10,000 people and spoke about cleansing hearts of falsehoods. He emphasized that through Christ's wounds we are healed and called Christians to build an open Church and society.

Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): A mercy to all creation!F El Mohdar
The more science and technology advances, the greater is the need for the observance and practice of the teachings and instructions of divine prophets in human societies. This is because science and technology provide only machines and instruments and by no means prevent their misuse by human beings.
The terrible rise in murder, other felonies, corruption, suicide and so forth clearly points to this very fact. If morality, which is a significant part of the teachings of divine prophets, does not prevail and govern in human societies, surely not only will advanced science and technology fail to ensure human peace and prosperity, but they will add to our problems and miseries. For the exploiters and colonialists utilize advanced technology and sciences for their own satanic purposes. They murder or make homeless millions of human beings as they have always done and trample upon the rights of the weak and the defenseless.
As a matter of fact, the only factor that can halter man's restive soul and control his stormy instincts and passions and thus utilize science and technology for human prosperity and pacific life is true morality, which originates in faith in God.
The moral teachings and precepts of the divine prophets and their moral behavior are the best means of leading man to his ideal life. It goes without saying that both in personal and in social life the observance of moral principles is required of all. However, for those who must lead societies and guide the people, this requirement is much greater, because, first, the one who is the instructor of society must himself be a model of supreme moral behavior and excellent human characteristics, so he will be able to wipe moral decay out of people's hearts and minds. Obviously if he himself is lacking in morality, he will fail to lead the people onto the path of humanity and virtue.
Second, the responsibility of leading human societies is so great and crucial that no one can successfully perform it unless he has perfect morals. For this reason, God selected his prophets from among those who possessed exalted spirits, great tolerance, extraordinary patience, and other excellent moral characteristics. It was with this weapon of morality that divine prophets overturned the debased societies that were plunged in corruption and led the ignorant people who had gone astray onto the path of virtue and salvation.
In the Glorious Qur'an, Almighty God has addressed the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh): "Thus it is due to mercy from God that you deal with them gently, and had you been rough, hard-hearted, they would certainly have dispersed from around you." (3:159)
The sublime celestial morals of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) brought about the waves of the revolution of Islam first in Arabian society and afterwards all over the world. In the light of this all-embracing spiritual and intellectual resurrection, dispersion turned into unity, unchastity into chastity and virtue, idleness into hard work and industry, selfishness to altruism, and Arab arrogance to modesty and affection. Men and women were thus trained to become models of good moral behavior and have altruistic manners forever. The morals of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) were so sublime and praiseworthy that Almighty God has regarded them as great. "And truly you (Muhammad) possess great morals." (68:4)
Article in The Times of Israel by Andy Blumenthal: In essence, the Jewish Temples have been not only physically buried over, but also the site has been historically Islamicized despite the Temple Mount’s intrinsic holiness to all three major religions (Christianity, Islam, and Judaism). In short, this is a very sensitive issue that is likely anchored in facets of intolerance and religious rivalry, as well as pretenses of superiority and dominance, rather than ultimately on the shared connection we have through both our genetic and spiritual lineage as Abraham’s decedents.

3. Welcome by the President of the Autonomous Region of Iraqi Kurdistan,
Nechirvan Barzani, and the Religious and Civil Authorities at the Erbil Airport
4. Erbil or Hawler (Kurdish:Hewlêr) known in ancient history
as Arbela, is the capital and most populated city in
the Kurdistan Region. It has around 1.5 million inhabitants
5.

8. Archbishop Najib Mikhael Moussa,
O.P., the Chaldean archbishop of
Mosul welcomed him to “the land of
the prophets.” The 65-year-old
Dominican, who was born in Mosul,
said: “Thank you for being here with
us. You are a pilgrim of peace and a
voice that awakens consciences.”
He continued: “Together we say no
to fundamentalism, no to bigotry,
and no to corruption.”
9. The archbishop was nominated by the European Parliament for the
2020 Sakharov Prize. He said that when the Islamic State arrived in
Mosul, he “ensured the evacuation of Christians, Syriacs and
Chaldeans to Iraqi Kurdistan and safeguarded more than 800 historic
manuscripts dating from the 13th to the 19th century.”
10. Prayer of Suffrage for the Victims of the War
at Hosh al-Bieaa (Church square) in Mosul
11. I thank Archbishop Najeeb Michaeel
for his kind words of welcome and I
am especially grateful to Father
Raid Kallo and Mr Gutayba Aagha
for their moving testimonies.
12. we reaffirm our conviction that fraternity is more durable than fratricide,
that hope is more powerful than hatred, that peace more powerful than war.
This conviction speaks with greater eloquence than the passing voices of
hatred and violence, and it can never be silenced by the blood spilled by
those who pervert the name of God to pursue paths of destruction.
13. Fr. Emmanuel (Raid) Adel Kallo, pastor of Mosul’s Church of the Annunciation, recalled
that before the Islamic State invasion he had led a parish of 500 Christian families.
Today there are fewer than 70 Christian families in Mosul, with many afraid to return.
“I returned to Mosul three years ago, after the liberation of the city,” he said.
“My Muslim brothers welcomed me with great respect and love. The visits of the imams of
the mosques of Mosul to bring good wishes to the Church have left a deep mark in my heart.”
14. “I was also visited by all the Muslims of the city, including writers, heads of tribes, educated
people as well as simple workers, who visited me to give their good wishes on the occasion of
the restoration of the Church of the Annunciation that ISIS had destroyed.” He said that the
artist who painted icons, carved statues, and made inscriptions with Gospel verses for the
restored church is a Muslim. “Another beautiful example is the invitation for the ceremony of
the birth of the Prophet Muhammad in the mosque of Rashan: this is the first time that a
priest to participate in such a ceremony in a mosque,” he said. “It should be noted that
in the same mosque ISIS read the document of the expulsion of Christians in 2014.”
16. If God is the God of life – for so he is – then it is wrong for us to kill our
brothers and sisters in his Name. If God is the God of peace – for so he is –
then it is wrong for us to wage war in his Name. If God is the God of love
– for so he is – then it is wrong for us to hate our brothers and sisters.
17. Most High God,
Lord of all ages,
you created the world
in love and never
cease to shower
your blessings upon
your creatures.
From beyond the sea of
suffering and death, from
beyond all temptations to
violence, injustice and
unjust gain, you
accompany your sons and
daughters with a Father’s
tender love.
18. In his prayer, the pope referred to the city’s Al-Nouri
Mosque, where on June 29, 2014, Abu Bakr al-
Baghdadi proclaimed a caliphate, known as
the Islamic State, spanning Iraq and Syria.
19. Lord our God, in this city, we see two signs of the perennial human
desire for closeness to you: the Al-Nouri Mosque, with its Al-Hadba
minaret, and the Church of Our Lady of the Hour, whose clock for
more than a century has reminded passersby that life is short and
that time is precious. Teach us to realize that you have entrusted to
us your plan of love, peace and reconciliation, and charged us
to carry it out in our time, in the brief span of our earthly lives
20. Visit to the Quaraqosh Community
at the Church of “Immaculate Conception”
in Quaraqosh
The pope recited the prayer in Mosul’s Hosh al-Bieaa (Church Square),
surrounded by four churches -- Syriac Catholic, Syriac Orthodox,
Armenian Orthodox, and Chaldean Catholic -- which were either
damaged or destroyed after the Islamic State seized the city.
21. I thank His Beatitude Patriarch Ignace Youssif Younan for his words of welcome,
and Mrs Doha Sabah Abdallah and Father Ammar Yako for their testimonies
22. Our gathering here today shows that terrorism and death never have the last word. The last
word belongs to God and to his Son, the conqueror of sin and death. Even amid the ravages
of terrorism and war, we can see, with the eyes of faith, the triumph of life over death.
23. Some of the gifts for the Holy
Father’s visit - A template of the
Via crucis made in a renewed
chruch and a hand sown chasuble

and symbols of peace.
24.
25. the face of the Mother of God continues to look upon us with
love. For that is what mothers do: they console, they comfort
and they give life. I would like to say a heartfelt thank-you
to all the mothers and women of this country, women of
courage who continue to give life, in spite of wrongs and
hurts. May women be respected and protected! May
They be shown respect and provided with opportunities!
26. Holy Mass at the
“Franso Hariri”
Stadium in Erbil
27.
28. Saint Paul has told us that “Christ is the power and wisdom of God” (1 Cor 1:22-25).
Jesus revealed that power and wisdom above all by offering forgiveness and showing
mercy. He chose to do so not by displays of strength or by speaking to us from on high,
in lengthy and learned discourses. He did so by giving his life on the cross. He revealed
his wisdom and power by showing us, to the very end, the faithfulness of the Father’s
love; the faithfulness of the God of the covenant, who brought his people forth
from slavery and led them on a journey of freedom (cf. Ex 20:1-2).
29. How easy it is to fall into the trap of thinking that we have to show others that we
are powerful or wise, into the trap of fashioning false images of God that can give
us security (cf. Ex 20:4-5). Yet the truth is that all of us need the power and wisdom
of God revealed by Jesus on the cross. On Calvary, he offered to the Father
the wounds by which alone we are healed (cf. 1 Pet 2:24).
30. the Father sent him to cleanse the temple: not only the Temple of stone, but above
all the temple of our heart. Jesus could not tolerate his Father’s house becoming a
marketplace (cf. Jn 2:16); neither does he want our hearts to be places of turmoil,
disorder and confusion. Our heart must be cleansed, put in order and purified. Of
what? Of the falsehoods that stain it, from hypocritical duplicity. All of us have these.
They are diseases that harm the heart, soil our lives and make them insincere.
31. We need to be cleansed of the
deceptive securities that would
barter our faith in God with
passing things, with temporary
advantages. We need the
baneful temptations of power
and money to be swept from our
hearts and from the Church. To
cleanse our hearts, we need to
dirty our hands, to feel
accountable and not to simply
look on as our brothers
and sisters are suffering.
32. Jesus Christ, he alone, can cleanse us of the works
of evil. Jesus, who died and rose! Jesus, the Lord!
33. Jesus not only cleanses us of our sins, but gives us a share in his own power and
wisdom. He liberates us from the narrow and divisive notions of family, faith and
community that divide, oppose and exclude, so that we can build a Church and a
society open to everyone and concerned for our brothers and sisters in greatest need
34. In the power of the Holy
Spirit, he sends us forth,
not as proselytizers, but as
missionary disciples, men
and women called to
testify to the life-changing
power of the Gospel.
The risen Lord makes
us instruments of
God’s mercy and
peace, patient and
courageous artisans
of a new social order
35. The Lord promises us that, by the power of the resurrection, he can
raise us, and our communities, from the ruins left by injustice, division
and hatred. That is the promise we celebrate in this Eucharist.
36. With the eyes of faith, we recognize the presence of the
crucified and risen Lord in our midst. And we learn to embrace
his liberating wisdom, to rest in his wounds, and to find
healing and strength to serve the coming of his kingdom in
our world. By his wounds, we have been healed (cf. 1 Pet 2:24).
37. The Church in Iraq, by God’s grace, is already doing much to proclaim this wonderful
wisdom of the cross by spreading Christ’s mercy and forgiveness, particularly
towards those in greatest need. Even amid great poverty and difficulty, many of you
have generously offered concrete help and solidarity to the poor and suffering.
