This document discusses pontic design and finish line types. It defines four main types of mucosal contact pontics: ridge lap, modified ridge lap, conical, and ovate pontics. It also defines two non-mucosal contact pontics: sanitary and modified sanitary pontics. The document describes the proper design of each pontic type and their indications. It then defines the finish line as the line of demarcation between prepared and unprepared tooth structure. Six main types of finish lines are described: feather edge, chisel edge, chamfer, shoulder, shoulder with bevel, and sloped shoulder. The shoulder finish line is recommended for all-ceramic restorations.
