This document discusses the facility layout of ABC Shipyard. ABC Shipyard has a capacity to build medium-sized ships up to 200 meters long and 50,000 deadweight tonnage. However, its current layout and throughput may not be able to satisfy a new large order of 5 ships that are 55,000 deadweight tonnage each. The document outlines ABC Shipyard's current production process and identifies the layout as a problem. It concludes that ABC Shipyard could expand its facility layout over the next two years or outsource some manufacturing to meet the new order while maintaining regular production.

3. INTRODUCTION
 ABC shipyard was spread over 70 hectares
and deliver a variety of ships over its 15
year history.
 It is capable of manufacturing medium-
sized ships.
 Its product mix mainly comprised
Handymax carriers-bulk naval carriers
about 200 meters in length and capable of
carrying upto 50000DWT.

4. PROBLEM
 Though pitambar is excited about the
project ,he is concerned with the present
layout and throughput, ABC shipyard might
not able to satisfy the need of new order.
 The order given by marine logistics is eye-
catching because of the boom in ship
building.
 The 5 ships required by them were
Handymax 55000 DWT carriers but the
ABC ltd., avg. throughput is only 50000
tonnes per that too for 4 ships.

5. PROCESS
 Steel cutting-sub-assembly-panel
fabrication-outfitting preparation-
painting-pre-outfitting-block erection-
block assembly-launching-final outfitting-
commissioning.
 The steel shop processed 34000 tonnes
of steel per year for two types of
sections: flat and curved

7. CONCLUSION:
 Solution 1:
Since the layout is the problem and there is time of two
years for ABC shipyard it can expand its layout so that
it can meet the customer need.
 Solution 2:
They can give order to the outsiders instead of manufacturing in
blocks and assemble the freely manufactured parts in ABC
shipyard. So that regular ship building of their average capacity
need not be interrupted and they can also meet the order.
