This document summarizes a study on producing polyesters from chemically modified rubber seed oil, an agricultural waste. Rubber seeds were obtained and the oil was extracted. The rubber seed oil was then used to produce polyesters via an alcoholysis method. The resulting alkyd resins were characterized and evaluated for physicochemical properties, drying behavior, and chemical resistance. The properties of the resins produced from rubber seed oil were found to be comparable to commercially available polyesters. The study concludes that rubber seed oil, an underutilized agricultural waste in Nigeria, shows potential for producing environmentally friendly polyesters and could help optimize its applications in non-pigmented surface coatings.
