Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem...
Introduction Do Canadian police agencies implement community policing, and problem oriented policing? and if so do they work? In this paper, this
paper will examine the two different styles of policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police and
the community work together on issues, and problem–oriented policing where the police try and understand specific issues within the community. It
will also examine several examples of different policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented
policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like many thing in life there are always critics of
different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on both of these policing styles.
Policing in a Contemporary Society
Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus their attention to the reasons of why crimes are
committed, and the complaints of crimes from the public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing
was developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main
premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if
they did not do this there would be a greater

Public Meeting At The City Of Saskatoon Where I Grew Up
Bruno, Saskatchewan, a small town east of Saskatoon where I grew up, is known for its hay farms, and cherry festivals. Similar to other small towns,
you will find the town office on the busiest street in town–the main street. On February 22, 2016, I attended a public meeting in Bruno's town office.
The public meeting was a town of Bruno regular monthly council meeting. I planned on staying as long as it took for me to get the information I
needed on policy and how the council made decisions. Within this council meeting, the council freely discussed matters, occasionally having some
order. In addition, there was no form of talking stick, which caused Interruptions and over talking.
When considering the ideologies of each person at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the decision–making process was scattered, shared decision making is what was happening. On one issue they were all clear, quick and
on the same page. On the other issues discussed they were scattered. There was no one leader of the decision; there were multiple leaders for a
discussion at different times. Therefore, as an observer, this was extremely difficult to follow along. Bruno council did follow shared decision–making
and a strategic planning approach. Even though they used the majority of the steps, the discussion could have been more formally approached.
However, you can take into consideration this council represents a small population. The support for this approach consists of reform–minded
policy–makers and leaders, which is hard to come by in a smaller community. These individuals that were sitting at the table are knowledgeable
individuals. However, they do not enable the experiences broader sectors do. Even though, Bruno council lacks the broader spectrum, they do practice
one of the most important benefits of policy making, shared learning.
The first thing on the agenda was revising the employee code of conduct and conflict of interest policy. The administrator asked if everyone read the
code of conduct and the policy, some of the council said no. One councillor then asked what the objection to the policy was. The councillor in charge of
the policy clarified. She brought forth words that should be changed. Therefore,

Personal Self Control And Early Intervention
PAGE 1 Personal Self–Control or Early Intervention Self–Control– The term self–control defines as, "someone's control over his or her own impulses,
emotions, feelings and actions (Jack Gantos, 2016). Early Intervention– To avoid a crisis, you need to be able to observe or assess the situation in such
a way as to notice when it is beginning to develop into a crisis (Saskatchewan Polytechnic, 2016, p. 29). There are some basic elements of crisis. For
instance, they occur quakily, unexpected and follows specific phases. It is an important thing to know more about our strengths and triggers before
dealing crisis. We are responsible for our emotions and feelings. For this assignment, I would like to follow the points given above for the early
intervention and self–control: Listen– Listening is the core of any process. For the early intervention, it is important for front line workers to listen
properly to the clients and individuals. For the non–verbal clients, we have to be aware about their body language and signs for communication. For
instance, when I was on my one week practicum, I worked with one non–verbal client. She always used her hands to deliver any kind of message. I
became aware of her messages that delivered by using hands from his daily log book. Listening is more important than assuming situation. Perception
Check– After listening, it is important to understand the person and situation for the better results. For this purpose, I would like to follow

Creative Writing: Break Up Of Traveling With Children
Earlier this summer I wrote a blog post about the break up of travelling with kids by airplane. I was a week or so away from boarding a plane to
Saskatoon with the two girls and it ended up being our worst travel experience to date. It got me thinking while in Saskatoon, there has to be other
way to travel with kids. You can drive, you can take the bus, you can fly... WAIT.. VIA RAIL!
I have memories as a child being on the train travelling to Vancouver from Saskatoon, being in the observation car and watching my brothers take in
the scenery as I was too young really appreciate the view. What would VIA rail be like travelling with children? I reached out to VIA Rail to see if
they'd consider working with me as a blogger on a trip!
Here are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We didn't look into how exactly the food system worked, which caused some grief with the kids. We missed out on the main breakfast, and dinner. I
did not know that you had to make reservations and the dining car is not flexible. When we had gone for dinner, they had no reservations until 9pm,
with kids 9pm dining doesn't work!
Onboard activities, there are many things to do on the train, though we didn't take part in all of them, we did take advantage of the live music in the
evening, which honestly saved the entire trip. The observation car and going through the rockies in the mid afternoon to early evening is probably the
most spectacular scenery you will witness in Canada. Throw in a beautiful singing voice and an acoustic guitar, my girls were in love! This easily
made our trip most memorable!
Long short, it's an incredible trip! Would I do it again? YES with older children 100%, with my husband 1000%. Though it is time consuming, this
is a great way to either begin or end your trip with a nice calm wind down train ride to take in the beauty that Canada has to offer! Just make sure if
you're taking kids that you pack your extra snacks and do as much research as possible! There is so much that VIA RAIL has to

Effects Of Teen Gangs
Teen Gangs
"Reports show that gangs are present in every state in the US, where in 1970 they existed in less than half of all states" (Lohmann). Teen gangs are
started around the ages of 14 and 15. When teenagers get into a gang, he or she usually gets into the gang to make themselves look resilient or try to
blend in, in account of problems at home or simply if one does not feel loved. Teen gangs are becoming a problem in the United States and the effects
of these gangs are unnecessary youth deaths, alcohol and drug abuse, in addition to young teenage boys becoming another statistic in today's society.
Teen gangs are dangerous for teens owing to the fact, as it is an easy way for one to get on an inauspicious path to life. Some people say teen gangs
are not dangerous seeing that it can help teens who feel helpless and need love. Others consider teen gangs dangerous because it can cause teens to
end up dead or in jail. Formerly, examples were given regarding why people think teenage gangs are robust and unfavorable as well as why teenagers

Copd Literature Review
BACKGROUND The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes dementia as a major public health priority and a significant cause of disability.[1]
With the aging of the Canadian population, dementia as a serious public health issue will continue to grow. Several research reports point to a potential
link between COPD and the development of cognitive decline.[2–5] Depending on the population group and methodology, about 10 to 61% of COPD
patients have cognitive impairment.[2,6] The literature indicates that cognitive impairment in COPD patients may be associated with increased
adverse outcomes such as more prolonged hospitalization, difficulty with the instrumental activities of daily living (IADL),[7,8] and trouble with
managing their disease and adherence to treatment.[9–11] Moreover, the cognitive impairment could affect the success of pulmonary rehabilitation[12]
and smoking cessation programmes[13] in patients with COPD. DESIGN STRATEGIES 1)QUASI–EXPERIMENTAL DESIGN The main goals of
COPD management are to improve symptoms, exercise tolerance, and overall quality of life while minimizing disease progression, complications,
exacerbations, and mortality.[14–17] However, the literature indicates that cognitive impairment could act as a limiting factor in managing COPD
patients. Thus, it is imperative to give proper consideration to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

mountain range framing the back of the picture. If you're lucky you may have startled some deer in the orchard that you probably didn't notice
driving by as you drank in the view. There is an openness but at the same time there are fir and tamarack trees, maple trees and Saskatoon shrubs

serious issue. For this reason, we have developed a plan to better our watershed quality/quantity by educating the public as well as taking action to
assist people in getting into the habit of properly disposing products. We plan to have 6 bins installed in our school by the school board, have the
posters up and have sent out an email with a digital version of the posters and our video to every school. We plan to accomplish this within June 1st,

Factors Affecting People 's Health And Health Experiences...
Place is an important factor in determining people's health and health experiences (Karunanayake et al., 2015) and the neighborhood is vital because it
directly impacts the lives of people living there. Saskatoon low income neighborhoods are significantly different in income status, education,
employment status, and poverty in comparison to affluent neighborhoods as well as the rest of Saskatoon. The low income neighborhoods in
Saskatoon have a high population of residents with an average household income of approximately $40,000 compared to about $84,000 for the entire
city (Fuller, Engler–Stringer, & Muhajarine, 2015) (Cooper, 2014) and these neighborhoods are also referred to as the "core neighborhoods".
Saskatoon's core neighborhoods including communities of King George, Meadow Green, Pleasant Hill, Riversdale and Westmount (National
Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health, 2015) consist of a disproportionate proportion of the most vulnerable populations to poverty. Hence,
Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) defines its population by using a measure of neighborhood residence and includes Aboriginal status in its analyses
(Morrison, 2011) because, First Nations, MГ©tis, and ethnic minorities majorly occupy the low income neighborhoods (Cessna, 2014). Although
Saskatoon's Aboriginal population are becoming more disperse in their place of residence, a significant number of Aboriginal people reside in the core
neighborhoods (Lotoski, Engler–Stringer, & Muhajarine, 2015).

Aboriginal Self Government
Aboriginal self–government is a long standing issue that continues to be a struggle for the First Nations People. To truly understand the scope of
Aboriginal self–government within First Nations communities, more effort is needed to understand the legislative system that runs Canada. This issue
of self–governance has been very destructive in First Nations communities. After signing the Treaties, First Nations People was stripped of their

This enables the federal government to assume full responsibility over the entire First Nations population. In A People's Dream Aboriginal
Self–Government in Canada, by Dan Russell, 2000, he brings up issues about the federal government making policies that have direct affect on First
Nations People and they have no knowledge or say of what happens regarding decision about their people[4]. The federal government has a great deal

Europeans settlers, have limited the possibilities of easily exercising Aboriginal self–government in Canada"[5]. Once the first wave of settles arrived
in North America, the Dominion of Canada created the power to control how settlers and resources were handled which left them also having to deal

The weather of the 3 cities over the past four days shows that Vancouver has the highest temps which are: 9В°C, 7В°C, 4В°C, and 8В°C, there were 4
days with no precipitation. Vancouver has such warm temperatures because it has the Pacific Ocean nearby that pushes cold air and water heats slow,
and the lack of precipitation is caused by the fact that the its too cold for water vapor to appear but no too cold for snow. Toronto has the second
warmest temperatures which are: 8.6В°C, –16В°C, 10В°C, and –10В°C, in Toronto there were 3 days without precipitation but one day had drifting
snow, the lack of precipitation is cause by the cold temps and not enough heat for the water cycle, it's also due to the low latitudes and Lake Ontario
keeps a slight amount of heat. Saskatoon was the coldest of the three with temps of: –20.4В°C, –18В°C, –17В°C, and –21В°C there were 3 days with

"Life zones" on a mountain reflect the changes, plants at the base are the same as those in surrounding countryside, but no trees at all can grow
above the timber line. Snow crowns the highest elevations. Another factor is landforms, air masses meet at a mountain and it is forced upwards
and this has an effect, the air cools. Air can only keep some moisture, once it reaches its limit the moisture is offloaded in the form of rain. The
colder the air, the less water vapor it can contain so as the air rises and cools it leads to precipitation. Vancouver has mountains and is heated by the

place of worship and celebration, of renewal with the natural world and of a deep spirituality. The story of Wanuskewin is just beginning to be
uncovered. Some archaeological dig sites date back thousands of years making them older than the Egyptian pyramids; these sites provide clues to the
daily existence of the early peoples. Tipi rings, stones cairns, pottery fragments, plant seeds, projectile points, egg shell fragments and animal bones all
give evidence of active thriving societies. While some sites teach us about life thousands of years ago other sites like the ancient Medicine Wheel still
remain shrouded in mist. Wanuskewin is Canada's longest–running archaeological dig. Famed archaeologist Dr. Ernie Walker and his fellow
researchers have been unearthing treasures since the 1970s and continue to do so today. In May and June you can find some of Dr. Ernie Walker's
archaeology students from the University of Saskatchewan working at one of the

Problems That Led to the Wrongful Conviction of David...
How to appropriately and fairly carry out criminal justice matters is something that every country struggles with. A major reason for this struggle is
the fallibility of the justice system. It is acceptable to concede that the possibility of human error in every case and investigation may lead to a
wrongful conviction. In the case of David Milgaard, however, Canada's Criminal Justice System not only erred, but failed grievously, resulting in
millions of dollars wasted, in a loss of public confidence in the system, and most tragically, in the robbery of two decades of one man's life. Factors
including, but not limited to, the social context at the time of the crime, the social perception of deviance, the influence of the media, and the ... Show

As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in criminal activity.
Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as members of society, often use character discrimination in
identifying suspects. Unfortunately, the police likely began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image established by
the elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is. Regrettably, David Milgaard happened to fit the mold. The stigma that
Milgaard would carry for next twenty–seven years of his life would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with labeling is that Milgaard felt no
one would ever look at him in any other way than as a criminal. This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal to the Supreme Court of
Canada. As a result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and commit suicide; he felt as though society had given up on him.
Ironically, his escape from prison was his only actual criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. Even upon his
release in April of 1992, he was not formally acquitted. (CBC/radio Canada) It was no until July, 1997, upon the discovery of new DNA evidence that
cleared Milgaard's name, that he received an apology from the Saskatchewan government for his wrongful conviction and the label was removed (CBC
/radio Canada). It was not until

The Economic Failure Of Regina's Economic Boom In Canada
Regina's economic boom. Even though the American economy declined in 2008, the Saskatchewan fortunes rose significantly. The high demand for
natural resources such as potash and natural gas fueled the economic boom. In 2011, Saskatchewan bragged about having the lowest unemployment
rate in Canada at 4.5 per cent. Regina tied with Guelph, Ontario with a 4.7 per cent in Canada and Saskatoon, SK came in fourth place with a 5.1 per
cent. The Saskatchewan Government reported in the fall of 2011 that there were "more people working full time than ever before in the province's

Polypharmacy
According to the Merriam–Webster Dictionary, Polypharmacy is defined as "the practice of administering or using multiple medications especially
concurrently, as in the treatment of a single disease or several other conditions" (2014). Polypharmacy can be considered as the use of six to nine
different medications, and excessive polypharmacy is studied as the use of ten or more medications (Jyrkka et al., 2009). Emergency department
visits, hospital readmissions, and death in the elderly are greatly associated with polypharmacy (Slabaugh et al., 2010). When the word polypharmacy
is used, many healthcare professionals may often think of its relativeness to geriatric individuals. Since elderly people are more susceptible to

It has led to an increase of emergency department visits, hospital readmissions, and even death in the elderly. According to the Nursing Manual of the
Saskatoon Health Region, there are policies to provide correct medication administration "to ensure patient safety when preparing and administering all
medications" (2014). For this to be successful, all health care professionals must understand the reason for the medication being given, the therapeutic
effect, any side/adverse effects, and assessments to be completed prior to administration (2014). The Saskatoon Health Region also states that "if
sending medications home with the patient, ensure the patient understands how and when the medication is to be taken" (2014). As stated above, this
was one reason for polypharmacy in the geriatric population to have harmful outcomes. It is the responsibility of the health care provider to educate
the patient with proper medication teaching (indications of the medication, proper dosage, and any adverse effects that could occur). If all of these
aspects were performed and shared with the patient, it could drastically decrease the negative effects of

The Speaker's Daughter Figurative Language Summary
In the poem the speaker's daughter is being mocked by some white children for being Japanese. The speaker then has a flashback to her time living
in Slocan. She remembers the time when the other white kids made fun of her and she ran into the forest to hide and at the same time talks about the
woodticks that can dig into your scalp. When she reaches deep into the forest, she then listens for the voices of the kids to guide her back onto the
path, and she vows to never go near the mountain alone again. Then she flashes forwards back to the present and she reassures her daughter that they
do not have woodticks in Saskatoon.
From reading the poem it can be determined that the speaker is the author, Joy Kogawa. One of the major giveaways of this is the name of the
daughter: Deidre. Joy Kogawa has a daughter in real life named Deidre and in addition to this, has lived in Slocan ... Show more content on

At first she uses imagery to display the prejudice faced by her daughter, showing how the bully "slanted his eyes at her beautiful daughter",
displaying the prejudice faced by Japanese Canadians. Kogawa also uses the imagery to show the fear that the speaker had to endure in her past,
from the "big white boys . . . crowding [her] off the path of the mountain" to fearing "woodticks which burrowed into your scalp". While the speaker
is in the forest, Kogawa's use of imagery shifts from showing fear to showing how she felt lost in the forest as she "listen[s] for the guiding sound of
their laughter" to direct her back to the path. In her childhood the speaker faced many prejudices and had to deal with racism, which instilled a sense of
fear and lostness at an early age deep in the speaker's mind. Kogawa's use of vivid imagery effectively develops the emotions of fear felt by the speaker
at a young age and the racism faced, and what the speaker's daughter is beginning to be exposed

The Saskatchewan River Watershed Flows
Introduction
The Saskatchewan River watershed is a major river in Canada which flows eastward across Saskatchewan and Manitoba into Lake Winnipeg. It is a
source of water to humans and livestock (Partners for the Saskatchewan River Basin, 2009). The watershed has a distinctive delta which is the largest
inland freshwater delta in North America. The delta begins at the west of the Saskatchewan–Manitoba boundary (Partners for the Saskatchewan River
Basin, 2009).
The South Saskatchewan River watershed flows from the Northern shores of Lake Diefenbaker out of the Gardiner Dam towards the City of Saskatoon.
It continues north to eventually become the Saskatchewan River (shown in Figure 1 below). The North Saskatchewan River watershed flows
eastwards across Edmonton, Alberta and joins with the South Saskatchewan River watershed to form the Saskatchewan River watershed. These
watersheds provide many recreational attractions such as fishing and opportunities for sightseeing, canoeing, fishing and hiking. The Saskatchewan
River watershed begins at the confluence of the North and South Saskatchewan River watersheds. From this point, the Saskatchewan River watershed
passes through the Saskatchewan Delta, into Lake Winnipeg, which eventually drains into Hudson Bay through the Nelson River. Figure 1 shows a
map of the South Saskatchewan, North Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan River Watersheds.

The David Milgaard Trial
The justice system is best known as a pursuit for the truth. It is managed by humans so, it is inevitable not to make errors such as ones that will lead
an innocent to be wrongfully convicted. Such a scenario is the David Milgaard case where he supposedly raped and murdered a woman named Gail
Miller but really, the foundations of justice were tampered with. The Canadian justice system failed terribly, dismissed millions of dollars and banished
the citizens certainty in the system. Most importantly, this even diminished 20 years of a man's life. The factors of social impression of discrepancy,
the impact of the media, and the misinterpretation of investigating police and prosecution played a significant role in the resulting failure of justice...

Finally, after over two decades of pain and heartache, David Milgaard walked a free man. David's mother had fought years and years for her son's
innocence. She joined with a lawyer, Mr. Asper who then reviewed the trial transcripts and concluded the evidence given did not prove the guilt of
Milgaard but the exact opposite, that he was innocent. Dr. James Ferris a forensic pathologist, was permitted to examine with many of the exhibits
present in Milgaard's trial, but because the age and size of the evidence samples, the results were inconclusive, so could not link David Milgaard to
the murder and therefore proved his innocence. Shortly after, a man named Larry Fisher was caught fleeing from an attack on a woman and was
brought into interrogation, he confessed to multiple brutal sex attacks in Saskatoon, some of which occurred in Miller's neighbourhood and during
the identical time frame as her murder. But the media did not have knowledge of this and investigators familiar with each case failed to make the
link. It wasn't until 1990 that Joyce Milgaard made the critical connection and saved her son. After this many people came out, including Milgaard's
friends saying they had forced themselves to believe their testimonies were true when they were actually false. It took 23 painful years to prove the
Canadian justice system had failed not only Milgaard and his family, but everyone. He is only one of the multiple voices of the wrongfully

Mixed Methodology For Data Collection And Analysis
The study will use a mixed method approach in data collection and analysis to provide enriched data. Mixed methodology will provide a useful
inter–play between qualitative and quantitative approaches and capture the best of both. This study will use an embedded design of mixed
methodology (Plano Clark et al. 2008) because the research has different questions that need both quantitative and qualitative data to provide answers.
However, the study will be a qualitatively driven mixed methodology wherein the qualitative data will be the core component/approach and the
quantitative approach will provide the supplementary data (Qualquan mixed method). Furthermore, as there is little research on this subject area in
Canada, using a qualitative strategy will allow for the discovery of unexpected issues and an in – depth exploration of perceptions via Indigenous
methods. The study will utilize a before/after design by comparing the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of the same group of people before and
after the intervention (O'Leary 2014). In addition, the study will use a sequential strategy of inquiry herein; data from one method will inform the other
in order to gain better understanding of the research problem. The qualitative data will be collected prior to the intervention so as to inform the
intervention design, and after the intervention to follow up and better understand the outcome of the intervention. The quantitative method on the other
hand, will be used to

Discrimination In Canad Poem Analysis
Her daughter faces discrimination because of her color from the Japs, big white boys who are enemies of Canada. They were chasing her and she ran

It shifts to her mother's past in the fourth line. "I was eight years old and the Japs were." The poem shifts to a time when the mother was young and still

I think the poem is symbolic of the place they currently live and she assures her daughter not to fear because there are no people who will scare them

A Survey On The Health Bus Staff Essay
The Health Bus staff collects quantitative data including client demographics, proportion of people by location and time of day, types of conditions
presented and treatment interventions provided (The Australian College of Ambulance Professionals, 2009). Hence, this evaluation will leverage on
the administrative data since the data is collected routinely and readily available. The researcher will review the various files and statistics that SHR
kept from August 2008 to August 2016 and use the administrative data to determine the demographics of the people that have visited the health bus
and the conditions they presented and received treatment for. Client Surveys: A survey will be used because it is an ideal method to reach a large
number of respondents. A survey was similarly used to evaluate the Mobile Access Project in Vancouver (Janssen, Gibson, Bowen, Spittal, & Petersen,
2009) and is an ideal method to determine coverage of a community based intervention (Callaghan–Koru et al., 2013). The self–administered survey will
consist of closed ended questions to measure client satisfaction and determine the services clients received. An initial draft of the survey will be
pre–tested with 30 participants as done in the Mobile Access Project (Janssen et al., 2009) and the researcher will modify the questions based on
feedback prior to administering it to all participants. Focus Groups: The focus groups will provide valuable insight on clients' perceptive on if the

Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay
Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician–centered approaches are often inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that
residents of low–income neighborhoods encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally appropriate
and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied with the services and would use the Health Bus services.
Evaluation may show that the Health Bus team is addressing other social determinants of health such as reducing social isolation among the clients. As
seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a result of chatting with staff and being treated with respect and
dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto (Whelan et al., 2010).
On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due
to the high morbidity and mortality rates from a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low–income neighborhoods which the Health Bus
services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale–up the Health Bus services to provide a multidisciplinary health service for people
living in Saskatoon's core neighborhoods by merging existing services with other equally important health services on the Health Bus such as mental
health care. As seen in Greece where Mobile health units was used to assess, monitor and

Wrongful Convictions And The Criminal Justice System Essay
Wrongful convictions heavily presided in Canada before adequate measures were taken to help prevent them. Many victims of wrongful convictions
were subjected to the flaws in the Criminal Justice System, in which has undergone drastic reforms to repair some of the many imperfections. In
Canada, the state provides compensation for individuals deemed factually innocent of the crimes they were charged for only through ex gracia, which
simply means, "payment by the state, ... made voluntarily, as a favour out of kindness or grace, and without recognition of any legal obligation"
(Entitlement of Compensation– The Legal Framework). However, in order to be considered eligible for financial compensation, certain guidelines must
be met under the Federal/ Provincial Guidelines on Compensation for Wrongfully Convicted and Imprisoned Persons, which was established in 1988.
(Entitlement of Compensation– The Legal Framework). The guidelines as specified in the Federal/ Provincial Compensation for Wrongfully Convicted
and Imprisoned Persons require that, an accused individual be convicted and imprisoned, and the conviction and imprisonment must be declared a
miscarriage of justice as a result of new factual evidence presented (Entitlement of Compensation–The Legal Framework). Also, the individual must
have been convicted and imprisoned under the Criminal Code of Canada, and the individual must be acquitted in the Court of Appeal, following a
referral made by the Ministry of Justice.

However, upon reading the poem and the uses of the title within in the text we can also see the allusion drawn to Shakespeare's A Midsummer
Night's Dream, in which there is also a wall within Act V. In this act, the characters of Thisbe and Pyramus, who are lovers, are separated by a wall
and are only able to communicate through a hole in the wall. Eventually their love for each other proves to be too strong and the wall then leaves.
Parallels that can be drawn to the poem includes whispering through "loose bricks", a reference to the hole in the wall in the play, also when the
word "dream" is used in the third stanza references the title of the play, while the "voice... from the wall" can be compared to the talking wall in the
play. The significance of these allusions in the title is that they reinforce the overall arching theme of the poem that there are always ways past
obstacles or barriers and where these hindrances are, people will always be looking to overcome them. On a literal level, the author Joy Kogawa
explores the various methods to evade a wall. She suggests ,through a door, sneaking, torturing, bombs, zeppelins, battering rams, whispering through a
hole in the wall. All of these are methods which can work, but the one way we sometimes fail to realize

Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem...

  • 1. Police Agencies Implement Community Policing, And Problem... Introduction Do Canadian police agencies implement community policing, and problem oriented policing? and if so do they work? In this paper, this paper will examine the two different styles of policing in a contemporary society. Community policing where the main emphasis is that the police and the community work together on issues, and problem–oriented policing where the police try and understand specific issues within the community. It will also examine several examples of different policing agencies in Canada, and what they implement for community policing, and problem oriented policing programs, and most importantly are they community policing, or problem oriented? Like many thing in life there are always critics of different ideas, so it will also examine the criticism on both of these policing styles. Policing in a Contemporary Society Problem Oriented Policing Problem oriented policing is the method in which police agencies focus their attention to the reasons of why crimes are committed, and the complaints of crimes from the public, with the focus on trying to better understand them (Goff, 2016). Problem oriented policing was developed by Herman Goldstein in 1979, he described it as a change in the way in which police function (Goff, 2016). Goff also stated the main premise is that crime needed to be studied, the police did not have the true understanding of the underlying cause of crime, it was also stated that if they did not do this there would be a greater ... • 2. Public Meeting At The City Of Saskatoon Where I Grew Up Bruno, Saskatchewan, a small town east of Saskatoon where I grew up, is known for its hay farms, and cherry festivals. Similar to other small towns, you will find the town office on the busiest street in town–the main street. On February 22, 2016, I attended a public meeting in Bruno's town office. The public meeting was a town of Bruno regular monthly council meeting. I planned on staying as long as it took for me to get the information I needed on policy and how the council made decisions. Within this council meeting, the council freely discussed matters, occasionally having some order. In addition, there was no form of talking stick, which caused Interruptions and over talking. When considering the ideologies of each person at the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the decision–making process was scattered, shared decision making is what was happening. On one issue they were all clear, quick and on the same page. On the other issues discussed they were scattered. There was no one leader of the decision; there were multiple leaders for a discussion at different times. Therefore, as an observer, this was extremely difficult to follow along. Bruno council did follow shared decision–making and a strategic planning approach. Even though they used the majority of the steps, the discussion could have been more formally approached. However, you can take into consideration this council represents a small population. The support for this approach consists of reform–minded policy–makers and leaders, which is hard to come by in a smaller community. These individuals that were sitting at the table are knowledgeable individuals. However, they do not enable the experiences broader sectors do. Even though, Bruno council lacks the broader spectrum, they do practice one of the most important benefits of policy making, shared learning. The first thing on the agenda was revising the employee code of conduct and conflict of interest policy. The administrator asked if everyone read the code of conduct and the policy, some of the council said no. One councillor then asked what the objection to the policy was. The councillor in charge of the policy clarified. She brought forth words that should be changed. Therefore, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Personal Self Control And Early Intervention PAGE 1 Personal Self–Control or Early Intervention Self–Control– The term self–control defines as, "someone's control over his or her own impulses, emotions, feelings and actions (Jack Gantos, 2016). Early Intervention– To avoid a crisis, you need to be able to observe or assess the situation in such a way as to notice when it is beginning to develop into a crisis (Saskatchewan Polytechnic, 2016, p. 29). There are some basic elements of crisis. For instance, they occur quakily, unexpected and follows specific phases. It is an important thing to know more about our strengths and triggers before dealing crisis. We are responsible for our emotions and feelings. For this assignment, I would like to follow the points given above for the early intervention and self–control: Listen– Listening is the core of any process. For the early intervention, it is important for front line workers to listen properly to the clients and individuals. For the non–verbal clients, we have to be aware about their body language and signs for communication. For instance, when I was on my one week practicum, I worked with one non–verbal client. She always used her hands to deliver any kind of message. I became aware of her messages that delivered by using hands from his daily log book. Listening is more important than assuming situation. Perception Check– After listening, it is important to understand the person and situation for the better results. For this purpose, I would like to follow ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Creative Writing: Break Up Of Traveling With Children Earlier this summer I wrote a blog post about the break up of travelling with kids by airplane. I was a week or so away from boarding a plane to Saskatoon with the two girls and it ended up being our worst travel experience to date. It got me thinking while in Saskatoon, there has to be other way to travel with kids. You can drive, you can take the bus, you can fly... WAIT.. VIA RAIL! I have memories as a child being on the train travelling to Vancouver from Saskatoon, being in the observation car and watching my brothers take in the scenery as I was too young really appreciate the view. Onboard activities, there are many things to do on the train, though we didn't take part in all of them, we did take advantage of the live music in the evening, which honestly saved the entire trip. The observation car and going through the rockies in the mid afternoon to early evening is probably the most spectacular scenery you will witness in Canada. Throw in a beautiful singing voice and an acoustic guitar, my girls were in love! This easily made our trip most memorable! Long short, it's an incredible trip! Would I do it again? YES with older children 100%, with my husband 1000%. Though it is time consuming, this is a great way to either begin or end your trip with a nice calm wind down train ride to take in the beauty that Canada has to offer! Just make sure if you're taking kids that you pack your extra snacks and do as much research as possible! There is so much that VIA RAIL has to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 7. Copd Literature Review BACKGROUND The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes dementia as a major public health priority and a significant cause of disability.[1] With the aging of the Canadian population, dementia as a serious public health issue will continue to grow. Several research reports point to a potential link between COPD and the development of cognitive decline.[2–5] Depending on the population group and methodology, about 10 to 61% of COPD patients have cognitive impairment.[2,6] The literature indicates that cognitive impairment in COPD patients may be associated with increased adverse outcomes such as more prolonged hospitalization, difficulty with the instrumental activities of daily living (IADL),[7,8] and trouble with managing their disease and adherence to treatment.[9–11] Moreover, the cognitive impairment could affect the success of pulmonary rehabilitation[12] and smoking cessation programmes[13] in patients with COPD. People's eyes are always wandering around looking or reading signs and build boards while driving down a street, road, or freeway. Do they do it out of boredom or curiosity? One cannot tell so easily why it is that they watch or read something, it is either out of habit, interest, boredom, curiosity or even for fun. There are multiple ways to how people perceive and interpret different ads; negatively, positively, neutrally, or they just don't care to even give it a thought, it is all based upon who the person is. With a racialize history and a differing option of how things should have been done, it becomes a challenge to approaches the new while not displaying the old (Casey 8). • 13. Factors Affecting People 's Health And Health Experiences... Place is an important factor in determining people's health and health experiences (Karunanayake et al., 2015) and the neighborhood is vital because it directly impacts the lives of people living there. Saskatoon low income neighborhoods are significantly different in income status, education, employment status, and poverty in comparison to affluent neighborhoods as well as the rest of Saskatoon. The low income neighborhoods in Saskatoon have a high population of residents with an average household income of approximately $40,000 compared to about $84,000 for the entire city (Fuller, Engler–Stringer, & Muhajarine, 2015) (Cooper, 2014) and these neighborhoods are also referred to as the "core neighborhoods". Saskatoon's core neighborhoods including communities of King George, Meadow Green, Pleasant Hill, Riversdale and Westmount (National Collaborating Centre for Determinants of Health, 2015) consist of a disproportionate proportion of the most vulnerable populations to poverty. Hence, Saskatoon Health Region (SHR) defines its population by using a measure of neighborhood residence and includes Aboriginal status in its analyses (Morrison, 2011) because, First Nations, MГ©tis, and ethnic minorities majorly occupy the low income neighborhoods (Cessna, 2014). The diverse land and opportunities in its past has lead to many changes in the economy over the years. Saskatchewan's economy and the variables that have influenced it over time are important to understand. These events in the early stage of our province lead to what and how we see Saskatchewan today. The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson shows the growth and change of Saskatchewan's economy over the years. As shown in The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson, Canada, and the Prairies specifically, were shown to be an amazing place to live, with many opportunities. Saskatchewan's initial economy, from 1905 to 1920 grew and changed. John Wilson was lured to Canada because of the propaganda used to influence immigrants to come over, Saskatoon itself was labeled, "The Fastest Growing City in the World," "The Minneapolis and St. Paul of the West" and "The Eight Year Old Wonder of the British Empire" (Pg.12), all attractive names to potential immigrants. As the novel points out, the Prairies were made to look as appealing as possible, with no mention of the "50–degree–below–zero winters" as Simmie puts it. Vancouver has such warm temperatures because it has the Pacific Ocean nearby that pushes cold air and water heats slow, and the lack of precipitation is caused by the fact that the its too cold for water vapor to appear but no too cold for snow. Toronto has the second warmest temperatures which are: 8.6В°C, –16В°C, 10В°C, and –10В°C, in Toronto there were 3 days without precipitation but one day had drifting snow, the lack of precipitation is cause by the cold temps and not enough heat for the water cycle, it's also due to the low latitudes and Lake Ontario keeps a slight amount of heat. A major reason for this struggle is the fallibility of the justice system. It is acceptable to concede that the possibility of human error in every case and investigation may lead to a wrongful conviction. In the case of David Milgaard, however, Canada's Criminal Justice System not only erred, but failed grievously, resulting in millions of dollars wasted, in a loss of public confidence in the system, and most tragically, in the robbery of two decades of one man's life. Factors including, but not limited to, the social context at the time of the crime, the social perception of deviance, the influence of the media, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result of these moral panics, it is extremely safe to label such individuals as those engaging in criminal activity. Labeling played an important role in the initial arrest of David Milgaard. Police officers, as members of society, often use character discrimination in identifying suspects. Unfortunately, the police likely began the investigation with a particular image of the suspect in mind, an image established by the elite members of society whom essentially determine what a deviant is. Regrettably, David Milgaard happened to fit the mold. The stigma that Milgaard would carry for next twenty–seven years of his life would be that of a rapist and murderer. The issue with labeling is that Milgaard felt no one would ever look at him in any other way than as a criminal. This was affirmed by the rejection of his final appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada. As a result, Milgaard attempted numerous times to escape prison and commit suicide; he felt as though society had given up on him. Ironically, his escape from prison was his only actual criminal act, but it led to an even greater public perception of his criminality. Even upon his release in April of 1992, he was not formally acquitted. (CBC/radio Canada) It was no until July, 1997, upon the discovery of new DNA evidence that cleared Milgaard's name, that he received an apology from the Saskatchewan government for his wrongful conviction and the label was removed (CBC /radio Canada). According to the Nursing Manual of the Saskatoon Health Region, there are policies to provide correct medication administration "to ensure patient safety when preparing and administering all medications" (2014). For this to be successful, all health care professionals must understand the reason for the medication being given, the therapeutic effect, any side/adverse effects, and assessments to be completed prior to administration (2014). The Saskatoon Health Region also states that "if sending medications home with the patient, ensure the patient understands how and when the medication is to be taken" (2014). Dr. James Ferris a forensic pathologist, was permitted to examine with many of the exhibits present in Milgaard's trial, but because the age and size of the evidence samples, the results were inconclusive, so could not link David Milgaard to the murder and therefore proved his innocence. Hence, this evaluation will leverage on the administrative data since the data is collected routinely and readily available. The researcher will review the various files and statistics that SHR kept from August 2008 to August 2016 and use the administrative data to determine the demographics of the people that have visited the health bus and the conditions they presented and received treatment for. Client Surveys: A survey will be used because it is an ideal method to reach a large number of respondents. A survey was similarly used to evaluate the Mobile Access Project in Vancouver (Janssen, Gibson, Bowen, Spittal, & Petersen, 2009) and is an ideal method to determine coverage of a community based intervention (Callaghan–Koru et al., 2013). The self–administered survey will consist of closed ended questions to measure client satisfaction and determine the services clients received. An initial draft of the survey will be pre–tested with 30 participants as done in the Mobile Access Project (Janssen et al., 2009) and the researcher will modify the questions based on feedback prior to administering it to all participants. Focus Groups: The focus groups will provide valuable insight on clients' perceptive on if the Health Bus ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician–centered approaches are often inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that residents of low–income neighborhoods encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally appropriate and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied with the services and would use the Health Bus services. Evaluation may show that the Health Bus team is addressing other social determinants of health such as reducing social isolation among the clients. As seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a result of chatting with staff and being treated with respect and dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto (Whelan et al., 2010). On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due to the high morbidity and mortality rates from a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low–income neighborhoods which the Health Bus services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale–up the Health Bus services to provide a multidisciplinary health service for people living in Saskatoon's core neighborhoods by merging existing services with other equally important health services on the Health Bus such as mental health care. As seen in Greece where Mobile health units was used to assess, monitor and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 38. Wrongful Convictions And The Criminal Justice System Essay Wrongful convictions heavily presided in Canada before adequate measures were taken to help prevent them. Many victims of wrongful convictions were subjected to the flaws in the Criminal Justice System, in which has undergone drastic reforms to repair some of the many imperfections. In Canada, the state provides compensation for individuals deemed factually innocent of the crimes they were charged for only through ex gracia, which simply means, "payment by the state, ... made voluntarily, as a favour out of kindness or grace, and without recognition of any legal obligation" (Entitlement of Compensation– The Legal Framework). However, in order to be considered eligible for financial compensation, certain guidelines must be met under the Federal/ Provincial Guidelines on Compensation for Wrongfully Convicted and Imprisoned Persons, which was established in 1988. (Entitlement of Compensation– The Legal Framework). The guidelines as specified in the Federal/ Provincial Compensation for Wrongfully Convicted and Imprisoned Persons require that, an accused individual be convicted and imprisoned, and the conviction and imprisonment must be declared a miscarriage of justice as a result of new factual evidence presented (Entitlement of Compensation–The Legal Framework). However, upon reading the poem and the uses of the title within in the text we can also see the allusion drawn to Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, in which there is also a wall within Act V. In this act, the characters of Thisbe and Pyramus, who are lovers, are separated by a wall and are only able to communicate through a hole in the wall. Eventually their love for each other proves to be too strong and the wall then leaves. Parallels that can be drawn to the poem includes whispering through "loose bricks", a reference to the hole in the wall in the play, also when the word "dream" is used in the third stanza references the title of the play, while the "voice... from the wall" can be compared to the talking wall in the play. The significance of these allusions in the title is that they reinforce the overall arching theme of the poem that there are always ways past obstacles or barriers and where these hindrances are, people will always be looking to overcome them. On a literal level, the author Joy Kogawa explores the various methods to evade a wall. She suggests ,through a door, sneaking, torturing, bombs, zeppelins, battering rams, whispering through a hole in the wall. All of these are methods which can work, but the one way we sometimes fail to realize ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
