In our modern world Smartphones are integral part of teenagers and even adults. When you
go out and forget your phone, it is like you forgot a part of yourself. There are tons of
campaigns about drugs and smoke addictions stating that those bad habits are taking your
health, but I couldn’t find a single Smartphone advert warning that phones are taking your
life.
I’m not saying is bad to have phone, but only when you are not overusing it. I personally have
an IPhone and I am very happy with that fact. I no longer, have to be at home or in front of a
computer, to check my emails. Sometimes from the university we are going to a small trip to
visit some museums. Instead of bringing a big bag with pens and books, I take notes on my
phone and then easily send them to my email or my computer. Who needs to give money for
a Nikon when your phone has the camera that makes almost as good pictures as Nikon?
I think Smartphones are only bad when they are smarter than the people using them. That’s
also because of the fact that Smartphones give access to social media. Some people think
they are obligated to tag themselves everywhere they go. I understand if you are visiting
Rome for the first time and want to show off, but saying you are going for a shopping in
Facebook, while you visiting the local shop to get bread for dinner, is beyond ridiculous.
Everyone has a Facebook friend that updates their status every 25 minutes and you just want
to scream to his face ‘’Shut up for fuck sake! No one cares what you think or do, just shut
your mouth for a while.’’
According to an Internet research there are 1.12 billion people using mobile Facebook and
every second 5 new people are creating profiles. However it won’t be right to associate
Smartphones with only Facebook. The reason why people are so obsessed with their phones
is because they have internet access, therefore have access to everything. The number of
daily instagram users now is 75 million, 500 million tweets are sent per day, for the 2013
there were 400 million snaps (Snapchat users) per day and all this from your phone. We are
so busy posting online our life that we start forgetting to live it. I have seen group of people
sitting in the cafeteria and instead of talking every single one is looking down to their phone.
I am starting to wonder of these people’s ability to talk. If a boy sees a nice girl he will prefer
to ask her about her Facebook account than to ask her number, because it is easier to chat
than talk. Actually some people spend so much time chatting that I think they might forget
how to talk. Cooking a dinner and instead of enjoying its taste they count the number of
likes.
I am walking on the street and I am not sure am I seeing people or robots? Everyone is
looking down to their phones and not paying attention to anything. There might be a
beautiful sunset, a good street dancer or an alien on the top of Big Ben, but no one will
realize it, because everyone is too busy updating their Facebook status or uploading picture

to Instagram with the hash tags ‘’ #BigBen’’, ‘’#havingfun’’. Of course if they really have fun
they will not be on their phones.
Unfortunately some of my friends are addicted to their phones as well. I just really hate when
I am talking to them, the chat on their phones or to upload a picture. C’mon mate, is it that
important uploading picture in the middle of our conversation or you are so retarded that
your Smartphone needs to be in your hand so you look a bit smart? And the worst part is in
the cinema. It is the most interesting part of the movie and guess what…a friend next to me is
on his phone and the brightness is turn on to 100% and makes my eyes to jump off my face
and run to a dark place. Of courses I start talking to my beloved friend and trying to explain
him that his phone is a distraction, but while I do that I miss the best part of the movie. That’s
a universal rule – If you watching something interesting, the moment when you get your eyes
off the screen and start talking to your stupid friend you will miss the best part of the movie.
That is the moment when you want to get his Smartphone and stick it to his head so he will
be at least a bit smart.
How I said it before – Smartphones are bad only if the phones are smarter than the owner. If
you think you have the amazing skills to be the annoying person and you are addicted to
your Smartphone, please just try using some old black and white Nokia phone and use it only
for calls and important messages. In that way you will help yourself to stay alive and not get
killed and also will not put in jail your best friend for murdering you.
