2. The main reason I like FaceBook is because it allows me to keep in
touch with people I have met through out the years. I have moved
around most of my life until 2005, when my father, who was military,
passed away.
The second reason I like FaceBook is because of the multiple
benefits it has aside from keeping in touch with friends and family.
You have a lot of sources in one, you can learn what is going on in
the world, help people in a crisis, donate, or even help a person by
finding who they are looking for like an adopted child find their birth
parents or a Veteran trying to find is comrades by sharing their
picture or information.
The third reason I like FaceBook is because whenever I feel like
looking into the past (posts, photos, struggles, victories), I can just
look at my timeline. It really gives you a new sense in the direction I
am going in with my children.
3. Tumblr is one of my top favorite technology websites. It is a blog Web site
that I use very often. I like it because it is a diary that I can share with certain
people and those who share the same interests and feelings about topics as
myself.
The second reason I like Tumblr is because It is convenient and very easy to
use. It saves paper and is not hard to keep up with.
My third reason I like Twitter is because it is much like Twitter, you can follow
people and comment but Tumblr is not as public as Twitter.
4. Pandora is a technology I have used for a few years. I have a love for music
and this application works for me. I can listen to any band or any song that I
feel like listening to and that fits my mood.
Pandora is extremely easy to use, just type in the name of the song or band
that you are looking for and it not only plays it, but it remembers the songs. It
is like an iPod on my phone for me, without having to carry an iPod.
Pandora continues to play your music no matter if your screen closes or shuts
off. When you are done, just log out and everything is there when you return.
I love it for the fact that I can use it for hours and it doesn’t run up my data
nor does it kill my battery on my phone.
5. Much like the reasons I like FaceBook, I like Twitter because it allows me to be
up to date with friends and family. I also get to follow my favorite celebrities
and viners.
I enjoy being able to know what movies are coming out, concerts
happening, invites to a get-together and what people are doing faster and
easier than FaceBook and also still follow what interests me. People tend to
respond faster to Twitter than other social media Web sites.
With Twitter, you can more information about the progress of a project or an
event of a charity. Politicians use Twitter more than most other social medias
and it is interesting to read what they have to say about certain topics.
6. For those who have family members who live far away from each other,
Skype is great. I have family in New York, Florida, Georgia, Nevada,
Washington and a few other states. It has been years since I have been able
to see them in person so using Skype has been very handy.
I can spend time talking to them via Skype and messenger and they can see
my two children that most of them have never met. My children get the
opportunity to meet family members. When my father was on deployment,
we would go to the military base and sit in front of a big screen so we could
talk to him and see him since it would be months before we would get to see
him in person, it helped coop with him being gone.
I know a lot of people who have spouses in the military and use it to speak to
them or allow them to witness once in a life time moments like a birth of a
child or a wedding. Parents who travel for work and want to tell their family
good night or what is going on can use Skype. I don’t spend much time from
my family, but if I had to, I would want my children to see me and hear me
instead of just hear me over a phone.
7. Although YouTube is a great technology, I am not a big fan of it. It has too
many advertisements and is very easily disturbed.
When it is time to search for what you want to watch, the search is not very
specific and uses keywords. When I want to watch a specific vine, it will pull
up every other vine except the one I would like to watch.
Depending on the length of the video, determines the number of
advertisements. I will watch a ten minute video for something for a class and
within that ten minutes there will be five commercials.
8. The one technology I really do not understand what the point of it is, is that of
Snapchat. I do not understand what the point of snapping a picture of a
lamp or a wall to send to someone. I have always thought the point of
pictures was to hold on to a memory forever. With Snapchat, you take a
picture, send it and then it disappears unless you screenshot it.
I have seen countless people, including my sister, spend hours on Snapchat
sending pictures of everything and anything to someone and call it
entertainment. I have seen fellow classmates use Snapchat when they are
suppose to be taking notes and answering questions.
Overall, I just find that Snapchat is pointless and disruptive.
9. Yelp has some controversy about it. There have been stories that Yelp, a free
review Web site, will use a company or business’s worse rating unless the
company or business pays a fee. If they do that, then Yelp will use the good
reviews and rating.
Yelp is not very clear on how it’s rating work and feels a bit bias. It is a money
business that is kind of blackmailing businesses for money.
If a business or company gets a bad review and rating or a few because of
Yelp, it hurts them and they can loose money. If they pay the fee, they will
get their good rating and reviews. Businesses and companies shouldn’t have
to pay anything to get their reviews.
10. Although there are great benefits to using Google, I find it a bit more than
what I am use to. You have Google Docs, Google Square and more. You
have Google View so you know how many people have looked at
something of yours.
I think it violates a great deal of peoples privacy. I don’t like the fact that
someone can look me up and find out where I am and identify information.
When searching for a specific topic, it will bring up so many unrelated topics
and you have to shuffle through everything just to find the one thing you
need.
11. Technology has brought society as a whole to a new level and has gained
great advantages. But I feel there are quite a few disadvantages. I believe
social media technologies have gotten in the way of what family and friends
use to be. Instead of communicating with each other, we focus too much
time and energy on what is going on the Internet. Hardly does anyone talk to
each other and spend time together.
When I take my children out to the park, I see parents sighting on the
sidelines playing with their phones instead of out on the playground playing
with their children. I can understand if a person takes picture with their phone
and later uploads them onto a FaceBook but the moments of playing with
our children is limited and we loose so much of that time and the little
moments because we cannot take our eyes off the screen of our iPads,
Tablets, Laptops, and Smart phones. We instant message instead of picking
up a phone to talk to a friend of a family member.
