DOING, BEING,
BECOMING AND
BELONGING
I have chosen to use the occupation of art and craft groups that I helped do at my second fieldwork
placement at Assisi rest home and hospital. The occupation of art and craft is very important at the rest
home as it helps occupy the residents time with a meaningful occupation, encourages social
interaction, and a opportunity to be creative.
Doing.......
                  Doing the occupation
                   of art provides
                   affirmation of
                   competence
Doing....
               Art is purposeful
                and a goal
                orientated activity
Doing.....
                Doing the occupation
                 of art provides a
                 sense of self worth
Doing....
               Doing includes daily
                tasks they feel people
                must do and others
                they want to do e.g.
                art
Doing...
              People spend most of
               there lives engaged in
               doing this stimulates,
               excites and entertains
               some people.
Being.....
                To live, self actualize
                 and experience
                 through the
                 occupation of art
Being....
               A time to reflect, be
                introspective and
                meditative.
Being.....
                Being is knowing
                 and doing as a focal
                 concern.
Being....
               Being is discovering
                the self, savouring the
                moment and
                appreciate the natural
                environment and art.
Being...
              Being is the essential
               ingredient of human
               experience. Some
               people experience
               through doing
               paintings.
Becoming....
                  The potential to do
                   more than we are
Becoming...
                 Involves efforts to
                  acheive and perceive
                  an able capable selfand
                  includes the need to
                  envision the futurein
                  which one might
                  contribute somthing to
                  others

The occupation of art and craft is very important at the rest home as it helps occupy the residents time with a meaningful occupation, encourages social interaction, and a opportunity to be creative.

  • 5. Doing....  Doing includes daily tasks they feel people must do and others they want to do e.g. art
  • 6. Doing...  People spend most of there lives engaged in doing this stimulates, excites and entertains some people.

  • 8. Being....  A time to reflect, be introspective and meditative.
  • 9. Being.....  Being is knowing and doing as a focal concern.
  • 10. Being....  Being is discovering the self, savouring the moment and appreciate the natural environment and art.
  • 11. Being...  Being is the essential ingredient of human experience. Some people experience through doing paintings.

  • 13. Becoming...  Involves efforts to acheive and perceive an able capable selfand includes the need to envision the futurein which one might contribute somthing to others
  • 14. Becoming.....  These students are suggesting change in there future through studying the occupation of art
  • 15. Becoming...  Explore new opportunities and harbour ideas about who or what they wish to become
  • 16. Becoming......  These fashion design students are envisioning there future through the occupation of art by choosing it as a career
  • 17. Belonging.....  Social interaction through mutual support and provides a sense of inclusion

  • 19. Belonging...  Contribution of social interaction through the occupation of art
  • 20. Belonging....  A sense of being included, to occupational performance and life satisfaction
