While student teaching, I created a 5-week poetry unit for a third grade class. For three weeks during this unit, I divided students into three groups, visiting a different poetry center each week, from exploring the Shel Silverstein website to reading poetry aloud to one another to creating concrete poems.

Draw Me a Picture: Tools for Visual LearnersJudy Thompson
What would a picture of language acquisition look like? The 6-Point Model for Speaking English shows you along with images for every aspect of language learning from the historical breakdown between Writing and Speaking in 1476 and the 6-Point Model (which is essentially the road map to fluency), to Venn diagrams on how English compares to other major languages are all represented in pictures. This presentation features a series of images that show how to teach learners to speak English quickly and confidently using simple tools they already have - ABC's and Colors. Draw Me a Picture was presented at TESL Canada 2015 and TESL Ontario 2015. Since a picture says a thousand words there is a lot of material to digest in this talk. For copies of the images email judy@thompsonlanguagecenter.com
Workshops on this accelerated learning system are also available.
From a Language Coaching perspective, any two languages are more the same than different. This presentation measures the clearly defined patterns of English conversation with the Arabic language to see exactly where they are the same and how they differ. Using first language in this way shortens learning time and builds confidence in students.
This lesson plan is related to the power point presentation that i have uploaded before. So, it may help you in preparing a lesson of adjectives for grade two.

The Roman Empire A Historical Colossus.pdfkaushalkr1407
The Roman Empire, a vast and enduring power, stands as one of history's most remarkable civilizations, leaving an indelible imprint on the world. It emerged from the Roman Republic, transitioning into an imperial powerhouse under the leadership of Augustus Caesar in 27 BCE. This transformation marked the beginning of an era defined by unprecedented territorial expansion, architectural marvels, and profound cultural influence.
The empire's roots lie in the city of Rome, founded, according to legend, by Romulus in 753 BCE. Over centuries, Rome evolved from a small settlement to a formidable republic, characterized by a complex political system with elected officials and checks on power. However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

11. Approaches/Theories of Writing Multiple Intelligences Theory-Howard Gardner. The Prose Models Approach-Paul A. Escholz posits in Eight Approaches to Teaching Composition that you have to provide learners with the structure of writing and combine it with models from which students can learn.
12. Demo Grade Level: works for any level (as we will soon see) Objective: After the teacher presents and explains different examples of poetry, the students will write one poem using the discussed model of poetry. Time: 50 minutes here; in class up to two weeks
13. What is a Concrete Poem? A concrete poem is one in which the words make a shape. This picture shows an example. The poem is about a tree and the words are written so that they form the picture of a tree.
14. Instructions First, you must pick a theme. (For example, let's say that you want to write a poem for your significant other for Valentine's Day. Your theme is love. 2. Next, pick a shape. (Following our theme of love, you could pick a heart or a rose or even the letters: 'L' 'O' 'V' 'E’)
15. 3. Get out two pieces of paper. The one is for the final copy so place that aside. With the other piece, write your poem. Do not worry about the shape yet; just write your poem. Concrete poems don't have to rhyme. 4. Not sure how to write a poem? Again, following our example, you are writing a love poem. Close your eyes and think about your wife or girlfriend. Think about what you love the most about them. Think about their qualities. Why you are attracted to them. Maybe find a picture of them and stare at that for inspiration. Whatever moves your heart will make a wonderful poem.
16. 5. Now that you have your poem written, draw with a pencil the shape you choose from step 3. Write you poem into the shape. You may have to play around with the shape so that your poem fits. 6. Add a photo or other colorful designs if you wish to complete your concrete poem.
18. ★A concrete poem is a collage of words, letters or symbols that creates meaning both by what it says and by how it looks. ★ l(a by E.E. Cummings l(a leaffa ll s)onel iness
