Sonnet 28: How can I then return in happy
            plight by William Shakespeare

How can I then return in happy plight
That am debarred the benefit of rest?
When day's oppression is not eased by night,
But day by night, and night by day oppressed?
And each, though enemies to either's reign,
Do in consent shake hands to torture me,
The one by toil, the other to complain
How far I toil, still farther off from thee.
I tell the day, to please him, thou art bright
And dost him grace when clouds do blot the heaven;
So flatter I the swart-complexioned night,
When sparkling stars twire not thou gild'st the even.
But day doth daily draw my sorrows longer,
And night doth nightly make grief's length seem stronger.

Response

This one was quite interesting because it was in
older English. Shakespeare also wrote in a
contradicting way in this piece. Saying things
that are usually cheerful in life were bothering
him or as he said “torturing” him. There was a
aura of grief or/and pain. He seems to be
talking about returning to someone hesitantly..
The Conqueror Worm

Lo! 'tis a gala night
   Within the lonesome latter years!
An angel throng, be winged, bedight
In veils, and drowned in tears,
Sit in a theatre, to see
A play of hopes and fears,
While the orchestra breathes fitfully
   The music of the spheres.
Mimes, in the form of God on high,
   Mutter and mumble low,
And hither and thither fly-
Mere puppets they, who come and go
At bidding of vast formless things
That shift the scenery to and fro, Continue…
Flapping from out their Condor wings
   Invisible Woe!
That motley drama- oh, be sure
   It shall not be forgot!
With its Phantom chased for evermore,
By a crowd that seize it not,
Through a circle that ever returneth in
   To the self-same spot,
And much of Madness, and more of Sin,
And Horror the soul of the plot.
But see, amid the mimic rout
   A crawling shape intrude!
A blood-red thing that writhes from out
   The scenic solitude!
It writhes!- it writhes!- with mortal pangs
   The mimes become its food,
And seraphs sob at vermin fangs
   In human gore imbued.

A Divine Image
                           By William Blake

eartH raised uP Her Head

from tHe darkness dread and drear,
Her ligHt fled,

stony, dread,

and Her locks covered witH grey desPair.
Response

I chose this because of the image it had given in
my head. “earth raised her head” made me
think and imagine the earth rising in the
morning. I imagined sun escaping from
everywhere then imagining everything cold and
sad. It gave me those images from the words like
“Dread”, “stony”, ”fled”, ”grey”, and “despair”.

Response

I loved this one because of the rhymes. It was
cheerful and bouncy the way the author
made me read. It just brought to my mind a
very spectacular day and made me smile
throughout it. The “witH tHeir sweet
round moutHs sing "Ha, Ha He!” Part
just made me imagine some PeoPle
   laugHing very Hearty laugHs.
Dreams
        >> Edgar Allan Poe <<
Oh! that my young life were a lasting dream!
My spirit not awakening, till the beam
Of an Eternity should bring the morrow.
Yes! though' that long dream were of hopeless sorrow,
'Twere better than the cold reality
Of waking life, to him whose heart must be,
And hath been still, upon the lovely earth,
A chaos of deep passion, from his birth.
But should it be- that dream eternally
Continuing- as dreams have been to me
In my young boyhood- should it thus be given,
'Twere folly still to hope for higher Heaven.
For I have reveled, when the sun was bright
I' the summer sky, in dreams of living light
And loveliness,- have left my very heart
In climes of my imagining, apart
From mine own home, with beings that have been
Response

This Poem just had a very fantastic flow to it,
almost like it was trying to put me in a dream.
The biggest emotion in this poem was the
  emotion of discovering reality.
The author just was rediscovering all the
dreams hes had in his life were all based on
the memories of sorrow or happiness
