Poaching involves illegally hunting or catching animals on land that is not one's own or protected land. Specifically, turtle poaching continues to threaten sea turtle populations as their eggs, meat, and shells are collected for food, trade, and ceremonial uses in many parts of the world, despite laws in most countries protecting sea turtles. The trade of turtle eggs provides income in some areas and their shells and skins are used to make jewelry, glasses, and decorations.
