Lead your manager
• Investigate company strategy and direction. Make sure you know and are
informed of organisational priorities. Make sure these are relevant to you, ie
that they are translated into tangible targets, values and objectives for your
department.
Explain to your manager why you feel this is important.
• Make sure you know how your project and each element within it, fits into the
company direction.
Again, make sure this is transmitted to you in a way that is relevant to the
project.
Ask questions! Ask WHY 5 times!
• Prompt department misalignment (if your company culture welcomes it)

• Make sure company direction, priorities and values are relevant to your
team. Make sure you live these in your daily work.

skills, continually challenge the way
we work and learn from our
mistakes.

• To be prepared at a meeting with the client.
• To be honest about challenges and not be afraid to
ask for help.
• To give the client and ourselves a realistic
timeframe, and speak up if we can't make it.
• When we show engagement and take initiative.
• To contribute to a great working environment.
• Ensure that I test my solution before handing it over
to someone else.
• To point out if we are not doing things in the best
possible way.

Deliver Better Results
• Make sure you share project objectives with your project team.
Translate the objectives into tangible objectives for each individual.
• Make sure your department or project success can be clearly measured. Install one
main success KPI and 5 secondary. Is maintaining budget the most important? Or
quality?
• Tell each team member why their position and contribution is important. Make
them see how they contribute to the organisational direction and objectives.
• Give your team tools to make decisions by telling them why you make the decisions
you make. Show them how you keep organisational values and direction in mind.

Departments seem to have different priorities and go in different directions. • Clarity on the organisational direction and priorities. Not being clearly informed about company direction and priorities makes your job hard.

We all have the same overall objective. • Making the direction relevant to everybody by putting their job into context. • Continuously communicating direction and priorities by Informing about why we make the decisions we make.

This allows them to prioritise their work in accordance with company priorities. We increase their efficiency. • Collaboration across departments improve. Less time spent on conflicts and rework. • People are more motivated and engaged. They give more of themselves.

Make sure you know and are informed of organisational priorities. Make sure these are relevant to you, ie that they are translated into tangible targets, values and objectives for your department. Explain to your manager why you feel this is important. • Make sure you know how your project and each element within it, fits into the company direction. Again, make sure this is transmitted to you in a way that is relevant to the project. Ask questions! Ask WHY 5 times! • Prompt department misalignment (if your company culture welcomes it)

Make sure you live these in your daily work. Responsibility We always take ownership of the tasks we work on. This means that we have to constantly develop our skills, continually challenge the way we work and learn from our mistakes. • To not be the bottleneck. • To be prepared at a meeting with the client. • To be honest about challenges and not be afraid to ask for help. • To give the client and ourselves a realistic timeframe, and speak up if we can't make it. • When we show engagement and take initiative. • To contribute to a great working environment. • Ensure that I test my solution before handing it over to someone else. • To point out if we are not doing things in the best possible way.

Translate the objectives into tangible objectives for each individual. • Make sure your department or project success can be clearly measured. Install one main success KPI and 5 secondary. Is maintaining budget the most important? Or quality? • Tell each team member why their position and contribution is important. Make them see how they contribute to the organisational direction and objectives. • Give your team tools to make decisions by telling them why you make the decisions you make. Show them how you keep organisational values and direction in mind.
