• Read a work of fiction written sometime before c. 1500. Explain what that work tells us
about one aspect of its culture,
• Compare and contrast different examples of art and architecture from either different eras
in the same culture or from two different cultures that were around at about the same
time.
• Look at how two different cultures interacted and what they wrote about each other (or
how they drew/sculpted/painted each other). Explain how these cultures fried to
understand each other.
• Write a historical short story that helps explain some aspect of a particular person or
culture. (Careful! This is harder than it sounds!)
I want to leave as much freedom as possible in this, so the choice is yours. If you want to try
something different, something a little more creative, or have a better idea for a topic feel free to
run it by me. Keep in mind we’ve talked about a LOT of history by this point so there are plenty
of options. Again, if you need advice narrowing your topics down, feel free to ask. Also — don’t
get over ambitious. You’re not going to be able to give a complete Marxist analysis of the
relationship between law and ritual in the Ottoman royal court between 1300 and 1700, so,
please, don’t even try. It’s better to pick something specific and see where it takes you.
That said, the paper must meet the following requirements:

Chapter 8 Summary
Chapter 8 looks at police behavior. Police behavior may be described from a universalistic perspective or a particularistic perspective. The universalistic perspective examines the ways in which police are similar. The particularistic perspective examines the way in which police differ from each other.
The universalistic perspective approaches police behavior from three perspectives. The sociological perspective emphasizes the social context in which the police are hired and trained. The psychological perspective examines the nature of the police personality. The organizational perspective is concerned with the formal and informal factors of the department.
Particularistic perspectives examine the different policing styles discovered through research. Worden (1989) suggests that there are five ways in which police differ from one another. Police are different in their view of human nature, role orientation, and attitudes toward legal and departmental restrictions. Worden also found that the beliefs and behavior of the police are influenced by their clientele. The final difference involves the relationship between management and peer group support.
Socialization theory maintains that it is the work experience and the peers that determine police behavior. The formal socialization takes place during training the new officer. The informal socialization takes places as the new officer interacts with experienced fellow officers.
Pre-dispositional theory states that the values and characteristics the officer had before employment are brought with him or her to the job. Research indicates that police have different values from the rest of society. Racial and ethnic differences, education, and police socialization does little to changes pre-dispositional values.
There have been numerous studies conducted looking at police behavior. This chapter recognizes that these studies are just as important today as they were decades ago. Westley's

(1970) discussed in-group solidarity among the police and the code of silence found to exist in policing. Skolnick's
Justice Without Trial

A wound is a break in the integrity of the skin or tissues, which may be associated with disruption of the structure and function.
Healing is the body’s response to injury in an attempt to restore normal structure and functions.
Healing can occur in two ways: Regeneration and Repair
There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
Complications of wound healing like infection, hyperpigmentation of scar, contractures, and keloid formation.

- 2. With reference to the text of Othello AND any materials I have posted on Blackboard: Othello is inherently a racist play. How and why should it be performed in America? The history of Othello’s performance teaches us that a Shakespearean play’s meaning is largely determined by historical context. Who’s right, Baraka or Wilson?
- 3. In order to answer these questions, you will need to first review the arguments made by actors of color in regards to the play’s treatment of Othello’s race and its performance history. I am asking you in this essay to wade into a conversation about race and the play that has been taking place for several decades now. Watch the clips of black actors discussing the play; listen again to the podcasts in which scholars of color consider the play’s history in America. Review the conversation between Harry J. Lennix and Laurence Fishburne. Consider the cultural weight of Shakespeare in western society. Perhaps look at the additional materials on Blackboard (Ania Loomba’s essay, for example). Since this is a complex paper, you will need to develop a focused thesis and develop it clearly, drawing upon evidence from the play and from multiple secondary sources. You might want to consider the following:
