PLASTIC BAG ANALYSIS
By Harry Heath
BRIEF NOTES ABOUT THE SHORT FILM
 Written and Directed by Ramin Bahrani
 Follows the journey of a plastic bag, in its quest to meet
its maker.
ONE DEVELOPED CHARACTER
 In this short film, there is only one developed character-
that is the plastic bag. This character is given a persona
as well as a voice. Although there is a female character,
she is hardly developed and the focus is hardly around
her.
CIRCULAR NARRATIVE
 Because the same location is used at both the
beginning and at the end of the short film, a circular
narrative is created.
 The film also starts of in present time, travels back into
the past and then ends up back in the present- thus
creating a circular narrative.
CATALYST
 The plastic bag being taken and used in the
supermarket, could be the catalyst event- as it is that
event that sparks life within the plastic bag. It has its first
breathe due to the shopper opening the bag at one
point.
AUDIENCE EXPECTATIONS
 The audience expectations are played with at the right
beginning, as no-one would expect the plastic bag to
be personified or even act like the way it does in this
short film.
