Carmichael Centre Ethiopia 2010 overview presentation 1Pat Walsh
This project is to build a Carmichael centre in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia as part of the development of the Carmichael Centre in Dublin. The centre will become home to approx 50 charitable and community groups in Addis Ababa and will allow local indigenous groups to have a secure base and a place to develop their skills and professionalism. The mix of charities will vary, but will probably consist of groups that represent marginalised people in Ethiopia such as children, women, disabled people, homeless people, people with HIV/AIDS, people with educational needs, people with medical needs, poverty eradication, malnourished people and other similar groups.
The centre will be a 4 or 5 story building of approx 20,000 sq feet with space for the 50 organisations either in their own office or in a shared space with 6 accessible apartments for disabled volunteers adjoining the building. The building will have shared services such as reception, switch, broadband, accounts, IT support, meeting rooms, and storage.
The building will be a model of accessibility in Ethiopia. It is modelled on an existing centre in Dublin called the Carmichael Centre – details of which can be viewed at www.carmichaelcentre.ie
The proposed building should be up and running by 2014.

Succession “Losers”: What Happens to Executives Passed Over for the CEO Job?

Overview:
Shareholders pay considerable attention to the choice of executive selected as the new CEO whenever a change in leadership takes place. However, without an inside look at the leading candidates to assume the CEO role, it is difficult for shareholders to tell whether the board has made the correct choice. In this Closer Look, we examine CEO succession events among the largest 100 companies over a ten-year period to determine what happens to the executives who were not selected (i.e., the “succession losers”) and how they perform relative to those who were selected (the “succession winners”).
We ask:
• Are the executives selected for the CEO role really better than those passed over?
• What are the implications for understanding the labor market for executive talent?
• Are differences in performance due to operating conditions or quality of available talent?
• Are boards better at identifying CEO talent than other research generally suggests?
This session will give a detailed overview of the newly launched NHS Universal Family programme, which is a commitment to
support young people who are care experienced into roles in the NHS and Local Government. Launched in October 2022 by Dr
Navina Evans, the programme has the aim of supporting 1000 care leavers by 2025. The programme is being piloted in ten Integrated Care Boards across the country, in partnership with Spectra who run the Care Leaver Covenant programme, with many
signatories including Amazon, John Lewis, Universities, Banks, Sky and many others, all with the aim of providing a family of love and support to young people who have grown up in foster care or children’s homes, without access to the opportunities that others
have. As Joint Programme Director, Raffaela will talk through the rationale for setting up this national initiative and share the work to date, and also will be seeking opportunities for information sharing across the NHS and Local Government to make this programme a success.
