- 53. night time shuttle service • 50% of people who die on the roads have a blood alcohol concentration above 0.05 gram per 100 milliliters. • Every year about 18,000 South Africans die in motor vehicle crashes. •150,000 other people are injured, often seriously. •This costs the SA economy R43 Billion a year. • Kab Shuttle works as a “Hop-on Hop-off” night time shuttle service for students. • It is an innovative, sustainable & socially responsible alternative to drinking & driving

- 63. traffic & SOVs • Single occupied vehicles (SOVs) who drive long distances to work daily, make up most of the congestion on our roads • Kab Shuttle targets this type of commuter specifically by introducing a new from of express bus transport.

- 65. pilot project – new mobility • Involves transporting a fixed number of commuters, initially between 20-100 people, to & from work, Monday to Friday. • Starting late October 2008
- 66. the connected bus • The first pickup point will run from Somerset West to the CBD • By utilizing the N2’s dedicated lane, a NM passenger may reduce their commute by 1 hour per day • The vehicles will have bicycle racks and wireless internet to aid both the mobility & productivity of passengers.
- 68. future plans • Our medium term goal is to take 1000 cars off Cape Town’s roads by 2010, replacing them with 50 small to medium size buses. • The long term goal is to reduce emissions, congestion, commuting time and consumption.
