Pixar was founded in 1979 as part of Lucasfilm's graphics division. In 1986, Steve Jobs bought Pixar, making it independent. Pixar uses 3D modeling software and render farms of computers to animate each frame of their films through computer simulation. Their process involves storyboarding, modeling, and rendering over 100,000 frames to create smooth animations. In 1995, Pixar released Toy Story, their first feature film made in collaboration with Disney. With a $30 million budget, it grossed $350 million, showing that computer animated films could appeal to wide audiences.
