Analyzing the megatrends in society that affect the way people think, behave, live their lives, work with their elected officials, deal with capitalism, etc. The comparison of the first Renaissance vs. the New Renaissance is very telling. Most people do not fully understand the impact of the New Renaissance as we all suffer from the boiled frog syndrome.
We are only at the initial phase of the New Renaissance. Things will dramatically change for everyone in the next 20-50 years. The New Renaissance is a lot more than just another label to describe the Digital Age.
The New Renaissance coincides with the emergence of the 5th Industrial Revolution and super smart technologies, such as Quantum Computing and Generative Artificial Intelligence.
Society is at the cusp of the 5th Industrial Revolution, which in reality is a New Renaissance as every aspect of life, work, and existence will change dramatically. The key to adapting to the new lifestyles and norms is to handle social and societal changes is to perform massive transformations. The problem is that governments and current institutions have no clue as to how to handle massive transformations. They do not have the right institutions in place or programs to handle such extensive transformations. This presentation offers a few clues as to what is happening and how to handle those massive ntransformations.

The rate of business and societal change fuelled by innovative, emerging and disruptive information technologies is well known, with impacts being felt in almost every facet of life. The forces driving the evolution and adoption of such technologies are complex, diverse and not always well understood. How can organisations predict the consequences of future tech? How should they fortify against the chaos of change while taking advantage of innovation?
This public lecture provides a concise perspective on the implications of emerging technologies and offers practical insights on how many enterprises and individuals survive, and also thrive, in a world of rapid technology-induced change.

The current generation of young children has been described as “digital natives”, having been born after1980 into a ubiquitous digital media environment. The greater majority of people today are digital natives. They are tech savvy with a very vibrant social media presence. They were born into a world of peak tech¬no¬log¬i¬cal inno¬va tion, where infor¬ma¬tion was imme¬di¬ate¬ly acces¬si¬ble and social media increas¬ing¬ly ubiquitous. They have some peculiar characteristics which have attracted the attention of researchers. These unique characteristics create predictable, serious problems between digital native learners and digital immigrant teachers, indicating that educational systems must change to catch up with modern times. The traditional education systems do not cater to the needs and interests of digital natives. This paper presents some ways educators can understand digital natives and change their teaching styles accordingly. Matthew N. O. Sadiku | Uwakwe C. Chukwu | Abayomi Ajayi-Majebi | Sarhan M. 4. 1. Transformative Technologies Are Emerging
a) There are over 30 technologies that will change dramatically the
world as we know it. More importantly, it is the integration of some
of those technologies that will revolutionize most industries,
businesses, and professions. The most dramatic integration will be:
Advanced Sensors + Integrated Data Bases + Advanced Analytics +
Quantum Computing + Different AI Tools (especially Generative AI) +
Smart Robots And Other Devices + Self Replicating Systems +
Distributed Additive Manufacturing + A New Web + Advanced Cloud
Storage and Computing + 6G …
Phillip Andrews 4
5. The Proper Perspective
• AI will be the best tool ever!
• Why?
• Because it is like having 10 assistants always advising you in real
time about your plans, your strategies, your decisions, your actions,
your health, your wealth, etc. There is not one person in the whole
world that can claim that she/he does not need that.
• AI will increase the individual and collective IQ,
and creative juices by an order of magnitude!

… And Now AI!
7. 2. A Higher Standard Of Living And QoL Is
Emerging
a) The 4th Industrial Revolution (4IR) started around 2010. 5IR is
ready to start in a few years. They will change everything!
I. A Digital World is emerging ➔ Digital Goods and Services
II. New technologies that improve life and work
• Smart Homes, Smart vehicles, Smart Utilities, Smart Businesses and Work , Smart
Industries … Smart Everything
b) New form of Globalization: Globalization 3.0 ➔ Globalization 4.0
c) Emergence of Oneness
Phillip Andrews 7
8. 2d. Globalization 4.0
• “Old Globalization” (Globalization1 & 2) was about goods and standard
services crossing borders (importing/exporting), as well as establishing
operations in other countries.
• Globalization 3.0 is about rapid economic integration through a digital
exchange, technology, innovation and the organizational imitation –
essentially, the globalization of ideas, knowledge, and culture.
• Globalization 4.0 goes well beyond people into technology and the low
latency flow and storage of data around the world, creating two major
technological advances: a) Global Interconnection, b) Enabling people,
businesses, and governments to instantaneously conduct “business”.

Phillip Andrews 8
12. 2e. Oneness
• There are 3 types:
• Societal Oneness – societies and people around the world feel the need to
work together, pool and share resources, face and solve crises together …
• Fact: Resources on this planet are dwindling
• Fact: The fastest way to kill a society and an entire civilization is to increase the gap
between the haves and have-nots
• Fact: Humanity cannot survive by staying disconnected
• Ideological and Cultural Oneness – all forms of Democracy are winning all
over the planet. Dictatorial and authoritarian styles of leadership are slowly
being extinguished.
• Spiritual Oneness –
Phillip Andrews 12

Everything in life yearns for
Integration.
Integration is an undeniable truth,
similar to Evolution.
16. Some Major Implications
i. Technologies change everything. Technologies are being
integrated into everything, including human bodies. Technologies
are not just tools or aids to work. They are an extension and an
augmentation of us.
• Emerging Technologies take people beyond modernization
• Interconnectedness is part of the new glue for people around the planet
ii. The planet is “getting smaller”. There are multiple threats that are
emerging from that, incl. famines, pandemics, conflicts …
iii. Common Future!
Phillip Andrews 21
19. 3. Sample of New Ideas And Views Of Life
https://news.gallup.com/opinion/gallup/265490/major-social-changes-years-woodstock.aspx
• Equality of the sexes and races – it is finally becoming a reality
• Willing to vote for a female President
• Willing to vote for a black President
• Multiculturalism is acceptable
• Interracial marriage has gained acceptance
• None-religiosity and secularization are growing
• Smaller size families
• Marijuana legalization is gaining support
• The Internet is becoming ubiquitous
Phillip Andrews 24
https://www.elon.edu/u/imagining/surveys/x-2-internet-50th-2019/anonymous/
20. Some Major Implications
• Life as we knew it, as recently as 20 years ago, has already
disappeared.
• Simple Living will become unattainable for most people.
• The pace of societal transformation is accelerating and is expected
to gain even more speed in the years ahead.
• The good news is that humanity will enjoy “the imagined future” sooner than
expected
• The bad news is that pea-brained and immature people will be left behind
and cause a new gap between the Haves and Have-nots, causing society all
kinds of problems and severe conflicts. Expect to see The Resistance To
Change to increase and even reach the boiling point.
Phillip Andrews 25
21. 4. Sample Of A Cultural Changes
http://people.uncw.edu/pricej/teaching/socialchange/causes%20of%20social%20change.htm
• Society becomes more open to different lifestyles
• Massive Urbanization is under way – as many as 75% to 80% of all people will live
in large metropolitan areas
• Higher mobility – geographical, occupational
• More independence
• Weaker social attachments
• Deteriorations of ideals, standards, norms, morals, ethics …
• Culture of Innovation matters because innovation saves societies, industries,
businesses , and people!
• Mass communication systems
• Higher levels of bureaucracy, litigation, lawsuits, etc.
https://abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=5483226&page=1
• https://www.nowandnext.com/top-trends/society-culture/
Phillip Andrews 26
23. More Cultural Changes
• Squashing and defusing ugly attitudes and feelings (shown in the sub-bullets below) ➔
less hatred, less animosity, less bigotry, less racism, less intolerance, etc. ➔ a
kinder, gentler world ➔ less confrontations and wars.
• Using smart technologies to squash hate mongering, conspiracy theories, etc.
• Disrespecting authorities – defunding the Police, the FBI, Judges, etc.
• Fudging records; spreading lies, and delusions are acceptable as long as one gains what
one wants.
• Politics have become a royal mess (constant frictions, animosity, finger pointing …).
• Everything is politicized (religion, education, justice system, sports, media, social media
… even libraries and toilet rooms!).
• Everything is fair and “everything goes” mentality.
• Lack of dignity, self-respect, class, pride …. Vanity and arrogance are on the rise.
• Influencers and pretenders become the new societal role models.
Phillip Andrews 28
24. Some Major Implications
• Technologies affect both views of life and cultural norms. Social
Media and Online Media are spreading ideas, fads, vogues, whims,
and rages faster and wider than ever.
• The Internet has opened the door to the Democratization of
information and knowledge, which is great, bit it also has a dark side
–
• Society numbness and dumbing down are major concerns – average
IQ has dropped (https://neurosciencenews.com/iq-drop-

Phillip Andrews 29
27. 5. A New Form Of Education Is Emerging
• The current Education System was designed specifically to energize
and advance the 2nd Industrial Revolution. Today we are going
through the 4IR and soon we will be entering the 5IR. This implies
that our Education System is kind out of touch with the needs of our
industries and businesses. No wonder that enrollment to Universities
and Community Colleges is down.
• Here are some new things that affect the future of education:
• Niche Education (as explained by Sir Ken Robinson)
• Online Education; home schooling; VR/AR/MR; microlearning …
• More emphasis on soft skills (cognitive, critical thinking, life, people … skills)
and innovation/creativity skills https://explodingtopics.com/blog/education-trends
Phillip Andrews 32
29. Some Major Implications
• Civilization cannot progress with an archaic and antiquated
Education System. The easiest way to kill 5IR, innovation, and true
progress is to leave the Education System as-is.
• The United States' education ranks are slipping nationally and globally.
Students' test scores in the U.S. lag behind their peers in other countries.
Despite being home to five of the ten top global universities, education
quality varies considerably across the U.S.
• According to a Business Insider report in 2018, the U.S. ranked 38th in math scores and
24th in science.

• Governments and people are exploring new forms of Capitalism
because one thing is for sure: The current form of Capitalism has
turned ugly by ruthless politicians and heartless business/industrial
leaders that have found ways to exploit and corrupt the system in
their favor. Unfortunately, that’s human nature. Many people cannot
escape their dark side. We need a kinder-gentler system.
• Neo-capitalism is an economic ideology which blends some elements
of capitalism with other systems.
• Stakeholder Capitalism and Inclusive Capitalism are also popular
new concepts that are being promoted and explored.

32. Some Major Implications
• The current model of Capitalism is no longer acceptable to most
people:

33. 7. A New Form Of Democracy Is Emerging
• The ruthless politicians and heartless business/industrial leaders
(once again) have also corrupted Democracy (no surprise there at all).
• A refined version of Democracy is emerging – it is called
Collaborative Democracy. It is a democratic conception that
combines the best key features of direct democracy, representative
democracy, participatory democracy, and e-democracy (i.e., the use
of ICTs for democratic processes).

36. 8. A New Version Of Smart Cities Is Emerging
• The current version is focused on technologies, such as 5G, IoT, IIoT,
vision and video systems, sensor technologies (per the “One Trillion
Sensor Economy”), AI, and many others.
• The new Smart Cities leverage the emerging technologies to achieve
a better world (as described in the first 6 aspects of The New
Renaissance). The new focus is on:
• New social and public (incl. health and educational) services
• Great “Magnets” for designing cities and attracting the best of the best
• Imbedding “smart” in all clean-green-environmentally friendly-sustainable-
resilient and all other solutions. In other words, “Smart” is The Big Umbrella
over everything!

38. The Bottom Line
• The world is migrating from
Separation and Segregation to
Integration and Inclusion.
• People and societies around the
planet are becoming SMARTER
and expect everything around
them to be SMART/SMARTER.
• The BAU (Business As Usual)
and Status Quo have died long
time ago! Continuous Change/
Transformation is now the new
norm!
