Is the digital transformation making your life more convenient or difficult?
The purpose of technology, whether you call it information technology or digital technology, has always been to make our lives more simple and our work more effective.
What about the digital transformation that is now creating rumbling shifts in the marketplace? Everyone is going digital, Soon the entire world will be a digital jungle. Experts claim that we are all either a digital pioneer, digital native, digital immigrant or digital laggard. Personally, I believe there are also some digital monkeys out there.
The word "digitalization" is the hottest buzzword of the decade. If you ask people what it means to go "digital", you'll get a myriad of different answers. The definitions on what it's all about, are are as many as there are bloggers out there.
To put it bluntly, there is only one yardstick to measure the success of your digital transformation: It should make your life and the lives of your customers more convenient, not more confusing and complicated. That's it.

We all know the world is changing, even if we struggle to grasp the depth of it. The sheer number of industries that are impacted, make us realise just how dramatic these changes are. There are more serious mega-trends than ever before. How we deal with these complexities as companies, will determine the degree of competitive opportunity we create. The better we leverage them, the more we will create companies that define their own market-space. This is the greatest opportunity for all. To make the best of these opportunities, will also entail far greater degrees of risk than before.
In this report, you will find everything that happened during Slush 2018, from the latest trends in mobility, cybersecurity and gaming to what's hot in the booming blockchain industry. It includes the list of startups awarded within Slush 100 competition as well as the Global Impact Accelerator.

Principles to Gamify the Online Philanthropic CrowdfundingNicola Terrenghi
A Gamification Framework Applied to Kiva.org.
This thesis treats the exploitation of gamification to engage and coordinate users on philanthropic
crowdfunding platforms.
Crowdfunding platforms strive to gain new users and to maximise their impact through the
design of engagement mechanisms. Social networks integration and mobile user experience
are only few of the several techniques to engage users and foster their activity. “All-or-nothing”
constraint, which enables the capital delivery only in case of campaign-goal achievement, aims
at increasing crowd efficiency, encouraging coordination among platform users.
Although the last six years were marked by the boom of crowdfunding industry, many users
are still “peripheral”: they rarely or never take action. Kiva.org, the philanthropic platform I
focused my thesis on, counts about one third of users that have never made a loan and 16% of
lenders that have made one loan only.
I approached the problem of users engagement and coordination suggesting the application
of gamification to philanthropic crowdfunding platforms. In particular, I designing the Gamification
Wheel, a gamification framework addressed to crowdfunding organizations. Through
the framework, I aimed at facilitate organizations in designing an effective gamification system,
via both a user-centric method and a business oriented approach.
Through my research I found out that gamification can be exploited to foster several user
actions, not only donation or lending but also contents sharing and team building. Moreover, I
experienced gamification design as a process instead of a set of game elements. In this regard,
after interviewed three field experts to validate the framework, I designed Impact to show that
game elements are just a mean to the design of an effective gamification system.

Delivering value through data future agenda 2019Future Agenda
Delivering value through data - final report. Throughout 2018, Future Agenda canvassed the views of a wide range of 900 experts with different backgrounds and perspectives from around the world, to provide their insights on the future value of data. Supported by Facebook and many other organisations, we held 30 workshops across 24 countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas, and Europe. In them, we reviewed the data landscape across the globe, as it is now, and how experts think it will evolve over the next five to ten years.
The aim? To gain a better understanding of how perspectives and priorities differ across the world, and to use the diverse voices and viewpoints to help governments, organisations, and individuals to better understand what they need to do to realise data’s full potential.
We are not aware of any other exercise of this scale or scope. No other project we know of has carefully and methodically canvassed the views of such a wide range of experts from such a diverse range of backgrounds and geographical locations. The result, we hope, delivers a more comprehensive picture of the sheer variety of issues and views thrown up by a fast-evolving ‘data economy’ than can be found elsewhere. And, by providing this rich set of perspectives, we aim to help businesses and governments - to develop the policies, strategies, and innovations that realise the full potential of data (personal, social, economic, commercial), while addressing potential harms, both locally and globally.
For more details see the dedicated website www.deliveringvaluethroughdata.org
Data Provenance is the third of Future Agenda’s ‘World in 2030’ foresights. In our data abundant, interconnected world mutual dependencies are often at the heart of key infrastructure. In this ever-expanding environment, it is vital to ensure that data systems are trusted. This is where data provenance comes in. Knowing the origin of data can help to assess its quality, accuracy and reliability. It also allows us to assess value and ownership and could contribute to the redistribution of profit when data is resold or reused. But does ubiquitous provenance mean that we will never be able to do anything, even remotely privately, ever again? And will the benefits of greater cyber security be an adequate compensation for this?
Drawn from multiple expert discussions around the world, this foresight is one of 50 looking at the key issues for the next decade that are being shared throughout 2020.

A tale from the future, by Eugenio Battagliabioflux
You might have heard of a new breed of organisational models, responding to the fast growing adaptability, engagement and collaboration needs within modern company structures. Or you might have simply experienced the sound problems of slowness, rigidity, bureaucracy, disengagement along with various kinds of waste and bottlenecks that “traditional” organisational models generate and suffer nowadays. What if OpenDrop is the first real experiment of a new way of doing research and business, together with a constantly growing, loosely coupled and horizontally managed team of value driven innovators? This is a tale from the future where in the development of OpenDrop (OD) we have deployed an innovative governance and operations management system which is meant to be adaptive, dynamic and anti-fragile. Where we have successfully layed the foundations for our governance in the principles of commons-based peer production and liquid management allowing anyone to contribute, and for this contribution to be accounted.
About the speaker:
Eugenio studied molecular and system biotechnology with a specialization in integrative neuroscience. He experiment in the field of Life Sciences with emerging and low-cost technologies, solving global issues and exploring novel forms of ethical deliberation. He led the development and management of several projects acquiring the tools to deal with an increasingly complex and multidisciplinary environment. His mission is to build and nurture a collaborative society by connecting people, organisations and ideas around fairness, openness and trust. He supports meaningful projects in social innovation, enabling fruitful collaborations with public institutions and progressive companies that want to build a resilient society.

Algorithmic Culture & Maker Culture; Breaches and Bridges in the Platform Eco...Raúl Tabarés Gutiérrez
During last year’s different platforms have emerged on the Internet and have become common in our everyday living. These new digital companies have succeed in positioning themselves as cultural intermediaries in a growing trend towards the digitization of society favoured by the irruption of different technologies, new forms of value-creating human activities and the decentralization effect that Internet culture helps to create.
In this sense, the growing importance of digital ecosystems in human processes & decisions has nurtured an algorithmic culture that symbolizes our current declining of autonomy in the social sphere. This disruption in the cultural landscape has been supported by the introduction of different “black-boxes” that impede to ascertain what the inner workings of these new socio-technological brokers are.
On the contrary, we can observe how different grassroots initiatives that promote technological appropriation and digital empowerment like the Maker Movement are also becoming globally recognized and institutionally supported. These movements rely on Free Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS) and Hardware for opening black-boxes and promoting critical thinking about technology in citizenship.
In this contribution we would like to explore the several convergences and divergences that are present in these two different cultures to shed some light in the complicated new techno-realities that have risen. Finally, we conclude with a set of several key guidelines that can help to policy-makers to promote new updated legislations.

UNEP's presentation is utilized to address the problems facing our planet and augment them with practical and effective solutions.
A new era is emerging where human-centric solutions matter more than ever before
Society is at the cusp of the 5th Industrial Revolution, which in reality is a New Renaissance as every aspect of life, work, and existence will change dramatically. The key to adapting to the new lifestyles and norms is to handle social and societal changes is to perform massive transformations. The problem is that governments and current institutions have no clue as to how to handle massive transformations. They do not have the right institutions in place or programs to handle such extensive transformations. This presentation offers a few clues as to what is happening and how to handle those massive ntransformations.
Analyzing the megatrends in society that affect the way people think, behave, live their lives, work with their elected officials, deal with capitalism, etc. The comparison of the first Renaissance vs. the New Renaissance is very telling. Most people do not fully understand the impact of the New Renaissance as we all suffer from the boiled frog syndrome.
We are only at the initial phase of the New Renaissance. Things will dramatically change for everyone in the next 20-50 years. The New Renaissance is a lot more than just another label to describe the Digital Age.
The New Renaissance coincides with the emergence of the 5th Industrial Revolution and super smart technologies, such as Quantum Computing and Generative Artificial Intelligence.
This presentation was offered to several students that I have taught, coached, and mentored. It was, and still is, very impactful as it helps students understand important lessons for a fulfilling life and a successful and rewarding career.
This presentation offers insights as to how to make Smart Cities really great by adding the right magnets to attract "the best of the best". Smart Cities focused on technologies alone they will only be average cities with nothing else to attract citizens, businesses, and tourists.
This presentation is aimed at helping students the impact of the 4th Industrial Revolution because there are fears that 4IR will do more damage than good in society and millions of people will be unemployed. This is another big misunderstanding. This presentation explains the realities of the latest revolution.
This presentation is also offered to students with the purpose of understanding what is involved in the introduction of the 4th Industrial Revolution, a.k.a. Industry 4.0, CIM 4.0, and The Digital Age. It is important to grasp The Big Picture.
Additional slides to aid the discussion in class about 4IR and CIM 4.0. it is aimed at clarifying some points made in class and adding to the big picture of Industry 4.0.
This presentation is offered to students attending the CIM class, with the purpose of level setting and establishing the direction for the CIM course, as the book that is recommended by the university is stuck in CIM 2.0 (representing views of the last century).
This presentation is offered as an additional aid for students in understanding CIM 4.0 and 4IR. It offers seven nuggets of wisdom that most people and businesses do not fully grasp
CIM 4.0 is part of 4IR, but it is not properly understood or explained. This presentation offers some additional views and perspectives to aid students to understand the value and impact of CIM 4.0.
A quick overview of AI to help students that are not fully familiar with all that is involved and encompassed. It supports the claim that society is headed to higher levels of existence. It also supports the claim that civilization is at the cusp of a New Renaissance.
Ideas for improving one's consulting practice and presence in the business community in order to improve lead generation and opportunities to bid on contracts.
This presentation addresses the topic of Biophilic Designs as it pertains to designing smart cities, smart communities, smart buildings, smart offices, and smart homes. It also offers several examples from all over the world.
This is the material that was presented to certain communities that were interested in applying the concepts of Green, Clean, Sustainability, and Resilience in their own communities. It addresses Net Zero Emissions, Zero Waste, Circular Economy, and other relevant topics.
These are the top realizations resulting from the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Some of them are positive and some of them are negative, but they are important in terms of pondering the future and even take action as a society.
A brief overview of the four Industrial Revolutions and their impacts on society. In addition, offering an insight into the future and the 5th industrial Revolution.
Discussion slides pertaining to key realizations about destiny and the triggers to activate one's destiny and having a great life full of adventure and excitement.
Space Odyssey had many interpretations over the years. This is my interpretation. The film was not viewed as a spiritual movie, but it is one of the best movies to comprehend Cosmic Consciousness and its impact on the human race. It is a very deep spiritual movie.

Terraforming of the digital world. Technology
becomes invisible. It’s about achieving
symbiosis between humans, nature and
technology!
Smart City 4.0 is being envisioned right now. It
is introducing:
Self-Managed Cities
8
PHILLIP ANDREWS - INTERNATIONAL INNOVATION CENTERS
Small Cities will be small cities that can be self-managed
It is close to impossible to retrofit existing cities!

The Goal:
Lean, Clean, Green, …
Sustainable and Resilient Cities!
Smart is the new Green…!
Zero Carbon Footprint
Zero Waste
Zero Hunger
Zero Pandemics
Zero Harm
Zero Crime

Participatory Democracy
Smart & Inclusive Smart Cities
12. Ways citizens can participate
➢ Looking for information in newspapers, magazines, and reference materials and judging its accuracy
➢ Voting in local, state, and national elections
➢ Participating in a political discussion
➢ Trying to persuade someone to vote a certain way
➢ Signing a petition
➢ Wearing a button or putting a sticker on the car
➢ Writing letters to elected representatives
➢ Contributing money to a party or candidate
➢ Attending meetings to gain information, discuss issues, or lend support
➢ Campaigning for a candidate
➢ Lobbying for laws that are of special interest
➢ Demonstrating through marches, boycotts, sit-ins, or other forms of protest
➢ Serving as a juror
➢ Running for office
➢ Holding public office
➢ Serving the country through military or other service

17. SMART CITIES REPRESENT THE BEST OF
EVERYTHING
The best of The Digital Age ideas, systems, processes, technologies, infrastructures,
ecosystems …
New ways of thinking, working, collaborating,
communicating, analyzing, deciding, solving,
implementing … EVOLVING!
New ways of living and enjoying life
New ways of travelling, commuting, telecommuting …
New ways of learning and teaching
New ways of raising families …
17
18. A NEW WORLD IS EMERGING ➔
A NEW RENAISSANCE
❑ Air Travel ➔ Reduced> Teleconferencing, telecommuting, teleworking … ➔
Fewer Airplanes ➔ No new terminals needed ➔ fewer pilots and stewards
❑ Hoteling ➔ Reduced>Airbnb ➔ No new hotels needed ➔ less hotel employees
❑ Rerailing ➔ Online Retailing ➔ Fewer new stores; fewer Malls; fewer retailers
➔ less clerks and support staff
❑ Manufacturing ➔ Reduced> 3D and 4D Printing to 3rd Parties, sentient robots,
AI, Machine Learning … ➔ Self-Manufacturing for many items ➔ less workers
❑ Logistics & Transportation ➔ Reduced> 3D and 4D Printing ➔ Fewer
warehouses and trucks ➔ less truck drivers and support staff
18
19. A NEW WORLD IS EMERGING ➔
A NEW RENAISSANCE
❑ Healthcare ➔ Reduced ➔ Telehealth, Telemedicine, Telecare ➔ You are the CEO
of your own health ➔ Fewer hospitals and ERs ➔ fewer doctors and nurses
❑ Education ➔ Online Education ➔ fewer new buildings, fewer institutions ➔ self-
education and advancement ➔ fewer years of schooling (faster rates of
graduation) ➔ fewer teachers and professors
❑ Government ➔ Participatory Democracy ➔ less reliance on government to make
all the right decisions and implementations, fewer government agencies, less
bureaucracy ➔ less government employees
19
20. MAJOR BENEFITS TO SOCIETY
❑ Less vehicles on the road ➔ less air pollution, less dependence on fossil fuels, less
traffic congestions, less frustrations and road rage incidents
❑ Less reliance on government and institutions (incl. VCs, Banks, Research Labs …)
❑ Less Intermediaries (brokers, real estate agencies, job agencies, wholesalers,
distributors, publishers, entertainment and talent agencies …)
❑ Less reliance on consultants (help is on the internet)
❑ More innovation, shorter times for product and service introduction
❑ Openness of value chains, openness of information and knowledge, openness to
dealings and revenue streams (blockchain) …
20
21. OTHER BENEFITS
❑ Fewer car accidents
❑ Fewer crimes
❑ Fewer school shootings
❑ Less bullying and sexual harassment
21
23. Digitalization: Once you digitize a product or service (photography, finance, manufacturing, biology, etc...) into
1s and 0s, that product or service becomes an information-based technology and it hops on an exponential
growth curve. Something digitized can be replicated and transmitted for a near-zero marginal cost.
Deceptive Growth: During the early days of exponential growth, the doubling of small numbers seem
deceptively flat. Take for example the first Kodak Digital Camera that produced 0.01 Megapixel images. As it
grew from 0.01, to 0.02, 0.04, 0.08... they all seem like zero. Same w/Microchips and Moore’s Law.
Disruptive Growth: What follows early deceptive growth is disruption. 30 doublings later something has
grown 1 billion-fold. That first 0.01-megapixel Kodak camera is now generating a 10-megapixel image. The
result of which is the complete dematerialization and demonetization of film photography.
Dematerialization: Products and services are becoming bits. I no longer have a clunky GPS on the dashboard
of my car, today its an APP on my phone. Think about all the 1980s or '90s technology that now comes free on
your cellphone: GPS, two-way video conferencing, HD video, HD photography, radio, books, records, maps,
weather and much more. In Abundance I did a quick calculation to show that today’s smart phone comes with
over a million dollars’ worth of technologies from the 1980s.
Demonetization: Once a product/service has become dematerialized into bits, its cost of replication and
transmission is near zero and ultimately leads to their eventual demonetization. As an example, digital
photography has totally demonetized the field.
Democratization: As products and services dematerialize and demonetize, they become available to billions
of users across the planet. Today there are 3 billion people connected on planet Earth. By 2025 that will
increase to 8 billion connected individuals. Create a digital banking or insurance product and you have the
opportunity to market it across the globe.

29. KEY REALIZATIONS
Cities Of The Future & Participatory Democracy will work best with:
❖ Small Cities (manageable size)
❖ Mostly educated citizens
❖ Mostly civil-minded citizens that want to be
involved and aspire to improve society
❖ Leaders that are truly Servant Leaders
32
30. ANOTHER KEY REALIZATION
The New Normal (post COVID-19) work environment) will
require Managers and Leaders to become great Servant
Leaders
34PHILLIP ANDREWS - INT'L INNOVATION CENTERS
One of the major triggers is
Remote Work (a.k.a. Telework
and Telecommuting)
31. PARTICIPATORY DEMOCRACY IS A
MANIFESTATION OF SERVANT LEADERSHIP
35
Good government officials want
to involve people, listen to their
voices, empower them, help them,
take their advice, and act on that
advice!
32. SERVANT LEADERSHIP IS ALSO KNOWN AS:
❑ Agile Leadership
❑ Spiritual Leadership
❑ Ethical Leadership
❑ Charismatic Leadership
❑ Authentic Leadership
