Guide to the Elimination of Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infections (CAUTIs)
Developing and Applying Facility Based Prevention Interventions in Acute and Long Term Care

About APIC APIC s mission is to improve health and patient safety by reducing risks of infection and
other adverse outcomes. The Association s more than 12,000 members have primary responsibility for
infection prevention, control and hospital epidemiology in healthcare settings around the globe. APIC
s members are nurses, epidemiologists, physicians, microbiologists, clinical pathologists, laboratory

Of these patients, approximately 3% will develop bacteremia. The 1997 APIC/SHEA position paper
on urinary tract infections in long term care (LTC) identifies CAUTI as the most common infection in
LTC residents, with a bacteriuria prevalence without indwelling catheters of 25% to 50% for women,
and 15% to 40% for men. Therefore, usage of indwelling urinary catheters in residents of LTC
facilities can be expected to

prevention efforts are implemented. The 2008 SHEA/APIC Guideline Infection Prevention and
Control in the Long term Care Facility 3 notes that guidelines for prevention of catheter associated

Application Of The Gauss Newton Method
As a final example of the application of the Gauss Newton method, we attempted to find the best fit
for a set of data with a sinusoidal function. This example illustrates how the Gauss Newton method
can applied to functions with more that just two variables, and that it can be applied to an equation of
any form. In it, will attempt to model temperature data with a sinusoidal function. Below is a chart of
the average high temperatures per month of the city of Monroe Louisiana (courtesy of weather.com).
Month Temperature (Fahrenheit) January 56 February 60 March 69 April 77 May 84 June 90 July 94
August 94 September 88 October 79 November 68 December 58 As can be seen by the chart, this data
appears to take the form of a sinusoidal function. Therefore, we will try to fit it with the general form
of this function, shown below: y(t)=A∗sin(w∗t+phi )+C A is the amplitude, w is the frequency, t is
time, phi is the phase and C is a constant. Given this equation there are four unknowns that must be
found. In the code, these four variables are represented by the column vector a and are returned in the
column vector w. As always, the code requires that we first solve, analytically, for the partial
derivatives required for the Jacobian. In this example, the function to be minimized, r, is given by:
rk=qk−(a1∗sin(a2∗pk+a3)+a4) where rk is the residual at the particular temperature value, qk is the
measured temperature and pk is the month, represented in the code as January = 1, February

Molecular Characterization of Brucella Abortus from Cattle...
Molecular Characterization of Brucella abortus from Cattle and Buffaloes Bovine brucellosis is a
contagious disease found worldwide particularly in developing countries (OIE 2000). It is caused by
Brucella abortus and is characterized by abortion in females and orchitis in males along with infertility
in both sexes. The commonly used conventional tests for diagnosis of brucellosis include rose bengal
plate test, serum tube agglutination test, complement fixation test and ELISA. However diagnostic
efficacy of these tests is questionable on individual basis mainly because of cross reacting antibodies.
Though isolation of the causative organism is the best method for confirmation of brucellosis but it is
time consuming. PCR has been ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Why Is It Important To Establish A Novel On A Rare And...
Some things are so meaningful to us that we do not have the courage to share it with other, and would
rather keep it our own secret. I believe that what Hazel means when she says there are books so
special and rare and yours that advertising your affection feels like a betrayal (Green 33), is that there
are books that some keep as possessions due to the fact that they are so rare and special for us that if
we were to tell anyone about it, everyone would eventually know about it. Letting people in on your
rare and special secret means telling people about your rare possession, which would no long be rare
as everyone would know about it. An Imperial Affliction holds a special place in Hazel s heart for
many reasons, however, the two most important reasons are: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

When something is valuable to you, you do not like sharing about it and it sharing about it means you
have to share your feelings, thoughts, and emotions with someone else. The book presents her life, as
the main character Anna also battles cancer. However, she does not hesitate sharing this with Augustus
because he already knows what it feels like to battle cancer. One of the many reasons that Hazel feels
a connection with this book is due to the fact that her favorite book describes what death feels like
without dying. Anna, the main character in An Imperial Affliction, says that she is the side effect,
which Hazel agrees to. Hazel feels as the book is only meant for her, as she understands how Anna
might have felt when battling cancer. She is able to relate to the character so much that she is believed
that the author is the only person who can truly know what it feels like to leave your family behind
when you die. Hazel reads the book over and over again, as she is able to escape the reality and live a

Becoming an Eagle Scout The Scout Executive of Southern Missouri presented me with a medal and a
badge. The award recognized the accomplishments and requirements that an Eagle Scout fulfills. I
accepted the award and took my seat. Once the applaud of my fellow scouts and friends died down, I
thanked everybody for coming to recognize my accomplishment of becoming an Eagle Scout. I
continued to express my gratitude to all the leaders and parents that made my time as a Boy Scout
some of the best times I spent in the outdoors. I reflected over the many campouts I took when I was
younger and did not yet possess the skills or the equipment that I have since gained. I concluded my
speech by thanking the business that sponsored my final service project.

The Huston Rockets Back-to-Back Championships Essay
Keep moving the ball around and dump it inside to Hakeem. Rudy Tomjanovich Sounds pretty easy
right. Wrong. While Hakeem Olajuwon was one the most dominating centers that the NBA has ever
seen, the defense usually didn t let him get easy buckets inside the paint. Or at least try not too. The
offense that coach Tomjanovich used during the Houston Rockets back to back championships relied
heavily on Hakeem s post skills and the ability of their outside shooters to knock down wide open
looks. This kind of offense is known as a 4 Out, 1 In Motion Offense and it is probably one of the
easiest offenses that a team can use. The concept of the offense is to get the ball and defense moving
and end up getting the easiest shot possible. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This takes the defending post player away from the hoop and allows the offense team post player to go
1 on 1 with the defender from the free throw line area. This opens up the inside underneath for back
cutters and dribble penetration from the wings and corners. The high post player can also be used as a
screener for the perimeter players. This can cause a big time mismatch when the defense decides to
start switching the screens. The post player will have a smaller player on him that he can easier post
up on or one of the perimeter players will have the post defender on them and should easily take them
of the dribble for a bucket. This set can also be used against teams that like to full front the post
player. The post player should move up to the high post area. If they are still fronted by the defender
they should first seal the defender and then cut to the basket for an over the top lob pass. For a post
player that likes to stay down low a team might like to consider using the 4 Low set. This requires the
post player to move from low block to low block, or from short corner to short corner. It is also used
against a defense that has a big, strong inside post defender or shot blocker that the post player can t
beat 1 on 1. This set opens up the top of the lane for 1 on 1 dribble penetration and cuts. The post
player is set up to post up 1 on 1 with their defender. Taking away the shot blocker from the basket
allows smaller,

The Unique Adventures Of A Nursing Major
The Unique Adventures of a Nursing Major
Bound by paperwork, short on hands, sleep and energy... nurses are rarely short on caring. Sharon
Hudacek, Nurse Theory
Planning A Future
Nursing students have been going to school their entire lives just like anyone else getting an education
and trying to better themselves as students. We do this not only for those who support us such as our
parents but for ourselves. We have been asked this same question from the second we got our first fire
truck, What do you want to be when you grow up? Even as young children we are beginning to make
decisions and choices based off the things that make us happy. But realistically at such an adolescent
age we are making our choice based on the color we enjoy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Participating in extracurricular activities is an expectation but with such little free time nursing
students are unable to join the clubs that they would like to be a part of and play sports.
Another way that nursing students are affected is how much harder they must study and hit the books
in many ways to get the information to stick in their brains. Katie a nursing student here at our
University, states, There are many nights that I am up at 3 am and I am studying as I fall asleep over
my laptop . Most students simply take normal classes and aren t required to go to labs that can
sometimes feel as if they will never end because they can take so long. But nursing students are
required to take a good number of classes that involve labs which is almost like two classes in one.
This is not even including the several shadowing/ internship hours that are required to get into some of
the more prestigious Universities. Katie Thielen along with most other nursing students spent their
spring breaks here St. Ambrose University because they must get certified so that they can work in a
hospital/ retirement home and get paid for their time.
Stress = Success
In hopes of limiting or minimizing stress levels, Katie will be taking summer courses. These courses
are not required to be taken over the summer, but they are highly advised because students are less
overwhelmed when they seek to take a few classes

Computer Architecture And Its Impact On The Growth Of...
What is evolution? The term evolution is defined in the Websters Dictionary as the gradual
development of something, especially from a simple to a more complex form. When it comes to how
we have progressed to a much more complex form in technology in general, the growth is nothing
short of outstanding. I remember when I was in awe when I viewed the first flat screen television in a
mall, or seeing how cell phone pagers have evolved to cell phones so small they can fit inside of your
pocket as well as surf the internet while purchasing items, selling items, home care and literally almost
any subject you can think of technology and the growth of technology has tapped into the market. We
are living in an information age where every business sector is becoming digitized; this can be a truly
exciting or scary time depending on how you view technology. Computer architecture, and it s
evolution is at the heart of this growth in technology everywhere. Increasing speed, minimizing area,
cost and workload, while improving performance; it is truly outstanding how a 1800 s.f computer clad
with vacuum tubes weighing almost 50 tons has turned into an a smart phone that has basically the
same functionality as our current desktop. How did this happen? What was the pioneering discovery
or invention that led the race towards the prosperity we currently enjoy? Some would argue: Cache

The Pros And Cons Of Double Jeeopardy
For most people that do not work in the legal world, the topic of law can be a dark unknown labyrinth
that makes even the most intelligent individuals feel overwhelmed by the many facets that make up
our system of law.
Although criminal law and civil law are separate sets of legislation and punishments, they can both be
entwined to deliver justice when needed; such as the case with Andrew Fastow, the Enron CFO who
was indicted on 78 counts of criminal and civil wrongdoing. ( Enron Fraud, 2017, para. 6) To
understand how this could happen without violating Fastow s right to Double Jeopardy, one needs to
look closely at criminal and civil laws separately. By doing so, you will see that Double Jeopardy only
applies to criminal cases, and not civil.
In civil law, a lawsuit filed by a private party can be either from a single person, a company or even
the federal government if the lawsuit claims that the Constitutional rights or federal statutes were
violated. For example, individuals who utilize government funded Medicaid for medical insurance
during a hospital visit and the hospital over bills the government. By doing so they are violating a
federal statute, and the government can file a civil lawsuit against the hospital. Additionally, the
plaintiff is responsible for proving each element of their claim. (Mallor, Barnes, Bowers, Langvardt,
2012, p. 38) Furthermore, civil cases are typically overheard by a judge unless one or both parties
specifically request a jury

Public Relations Essay
Public Relations
Good public relations is key to the success of any business. A company must strive to make itself
stand out in its particular field. The media can be a very effective public relations tool if it is used
right.
A twenty first century company is not only going to need the ability to please their customers, but to
delight them. In order to accomplish this goal, employees need to understand who the company is, and
what it stands for. Not only do they need to understand these values, but an employee needs to be
committed to upholding them on an everyday basis. Every employee represents their company
individually, and the impression that they give the customer is the ... Show more content on

On one hand, communicators need to get their messages out. The media also needs news to report.
When communicators have a story that they want to get out, they want the media to give them as
much attention as possible. There is another side to this story though. The media reports on subjects
that are considered newsworthy. This includes stories that not only could be beneficial to business, but
they also report on subjects that put companies in a negative light. This is where the hate relationship
comes in. Negative publicity is the last thing that any company wants, and it causes them to put up
their defenses against the media.
Even though media can have a negative impact on a company, if it is used to its full advantage, it can
be a very effective way of getting publicity. Newspapers are always looking for people and things to
write about. Radio and television stations are always looking for people to interview and things to talk
about. These stories are free of charge, and are of greater value than a commercial would be. People
know that a commercial is paid for and designed under the companies own perspective of itself.
People are more likely to pay attention to what a newspaper article, or a television interview gets
across to them than a commercial. The reason for this is because the information is coming from a
source outside of the company, and is therefore more trustworthy. This is not to

Summary Of Lady Audra Essay
Lady Audra, age seventeen, raised her fists and braced her feet in the soil. Step forward, you little shit,
she growled. You can hit harder than that.
This was their typical routine, Audra and the teenage stable boy. In front of the horse paddock on
Audra s parents estate, she and the young man often engaged in sword training and battle axe
exercises, but today, they used fists.
Audra loved combat training.
She stutter stepped forward, her long red hair in a wild tangle around her face, bruises smarting on her
jaw from the recent blow she d failed to block. However, the stable hand dropped his guard and
pointed over Audra s shoulder. She spun around and spotted her parents approaching on horseback.
Despite the heat of the day, they wore woolen cloaks that billowed behind them as they rode. Formal.
Always so formal.
Ah, damn, she whispered, dropping her fists. They re back early.
It was too late to change from her man s tunic and trousers, which were, incidentally, torn at the knees
and filthy. Why couldn t Audra s parents understand she liked learning to defend herself? Besides, the
stable boy was never all that rough. And why did being a woman mean one should not stand up for
herself, physically or otherwise?
I am leaving. See you later, Audra.
The stable boy ran off, leaving Audra to face her parents, the cold Lady Ina and Lord Sior, alone.
Audra was their only child, and they d never paid her any attention. Ina and Sior preferred traveling

Plots In The Movie Adaptation Of Ender s Game
Destruction of Planets and Plots in the Movie Adaptation of Ender s Game
Movie adaptations are more frequent than ever before in today s society. Sometimes, they are held in a
higher respect than movies not based on books, especially by those who love books. When a movie
adaptation is watched by someone who read the book, the reader has major and specific plot points in
mind that need focus, and when those points are not hit, there seems to be an uproar among the
community. With Ender s Game, there were mixed reviews. Many disliked how some of the magic
seen in the book was lost in translation. Some didn t seem to like how characters were presented or
how certain things were brought up with no detail, or not brought up at all. In the movie adaptation of
Ender s Game, Orson Scott Card s original idea of Andrew Ender Wiggin, a child genius, becoming a
commander of an army in efforts to save the world remains, but with Card s intense adventure and
genius depth nearly obliterated from the motion picture, the movie underwhelms with its inabilities to
portray the interesting science fiction story in whole.
The movie adaptation of Ender s Game avoids portraying as much child violence as the novel. Clearly
addressed several times in the book, Ender worries about becoming a killer, like his brother Peter, yet
he continues to inflict pain as if he forgot about attempting to avoid the seemingly inevitable:
becoming malleable by surrounding influences. However, the movie plays Ender

For this assignment, I shadowed Brooke Friday, an Assistant Stage Manager for the DPA production
of Midsummer Night s Dream, a radio show produced in the Studio Theatre. The day I visited was a
dress rehearsal a couple of days before opening. For this production, Friday had many responsibilities
to make sure the rehearsal process ran smoothly. Although she never had to make any blocking notes
(the actors stood in front of microphones for the entirety of the show), she had to take numerous line
notes. She also had to help set up and tear down the microphones, chairs, and the foley, the equipment
used for sound effects. Lastly, she had to time the production. She had to time the entire run time
along with the time for each scene. She told me that this was information for the editors when they go

Leadership At A Community College
Leadership in the Support of Veterans Continuing Education in Community Colleges Leadership
within higher education organizations is essential to the functioning and success of the establishment.
Leadership practices can vary depending on the type of higher education organization and the issue or
goal at hand. The purpose of this assignment is to evaluate the best leadership practices in support of
veterans continuing their education at a community college. The review of Bolman and Deal s
organizational frames and the relation to transformational leadership, exemplary leadership, and
integrative leadership will determine the best leadership practices for supporting veteran education.
Increase of Veteran Enrollment Higher education organizations including community colleges, 4 year
public colleges, 4 year private nonprofit colleges, and for profit colleges have experienced an increase
in veteran enrollment over the past few years. A student veteran is defined as, any student who is a
current or former member of the active duty military, the National Guard, or Reserves regardless of
deployment status, combat experience, legal veteran status, or GI Bill use (Vacchi, 2012, p. 17). Today
s veterans come from a demanding environment of high levels of expectations, formal structure, and
discipline. Today s veterans looking to continue education are of higher quality due to increased

The Pros And Cons Of Wolves
In May, 2016, 20 calves were killed and not eaten in four days in the area of the Absaroka Mountains,
outside of Pinedale Wyoming. (Urbigkit ,2016) However, it doesn t stop there, every day livestock and
wildlife are killed and rarely eaten by wolves in almost every western state. This is a problem that
needs to be addressed before ranchers lose their herds, and before the wild herds are depleted beyond
restoration. If the wolf situation was bad a couple years ago, well now it s worse, even some of the
protectors of wildlife are starting to come to their senses. Livestock is the most expensive prey that

Wolves need to be managed and if they are not addressed they will continue to roam free of charge
and deplete the livestock herds. Even beyond that our generation of families won t feel safe letting our
grandchildren run around. The wolves have mass killed 19 elk in one night, slaughtered countless
numbers of livestock and in places threatened people. In the rural town of Reserve, New Mexico kids
wait for the bus in wooden and metal cages, meant to protect the kids from wolf attacks. (Toft, 2016).
You may think is this is unnecessary, until you see and hear about the wolves growling and snarling at
the frightened children. If this doesn t change your opinions on wolves maybe you should sit in the
cage and live in the wild with them. It s a sad time when the most important thing you walk out of the
house with is not your coat or anything it s your weapon, so you can defend your family, home, and
livelihood. As communities and stewards of the land our duty is to protect as well as manage, we as
hunters are managing, however the wolves are not being managed correctly, and are getting away with
the minor scolding of words that they cannot comprehend from the government. I m not saying
eradicate them but certainly allow the ranchers and such to shoot wolves, and for the government to

Essay A P
I chose to write about the short story A P. The story takes place in a small town in the late 60 s, in a
vacation town of sorts with a general store, few residents. What I received from the setting, was a very
low maintenance town where everybody knows everybody (very tight community) most likely old
school beliefs and structures (religion, dress code, ethics, morals, ext strict) and for a short time
tourists come to live for a while, and in a sense shake up the foundation of the town a bit with their
outside beliefs and values. Well Sammy, the main character, is nineteen and has or had, as I should say
after reading the story, a job working as a check out clerk at the local A P. (Alexadrov and Petrooshki
Tea Company) When one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even Sammy, quits his job over them. Because during the last section of the story the old grey store
manager/owner, confronts the young ladies on what they were wearing although legal, in this time and
date and in such a small, I m guessing Bible belt town, was jus plain awful to him almost
embarrassing I would say, for these women to flaunt their extremities. It was not clear what set the
manager off but the women were told to quickly pay and leave. During this argument between the
primped and polished girls and the old grey dusty store manager Sammy very bravely stands up, from
what I believe to impress these women and to show them that he can not only stand up for them but
stand up to his superior, risk his job, and make a scene. For What?! Just for them to walk out of the
store never to look back, never to show appreciation, and never to see Sammy again. Hell of a first
impression if you ask me. But then again the author never explained any past occurrences at the store
that might have led to this, and this might have been just the last straw possibly for Sammy. Maybe he
was fed up with his work, and he saw the chance to quit and look tough and manly, also make a big
stink in front of Queenie and her cronies. (The women in the story) To me this seems very
unreasonable to make an ass out of yourself, if it is just for a couple of girls that I m sure in his mind
knew he wasn t going to go anywhere

Charlie Chaplin s Modern Times
When the era of silent films was almost finished, Charlie Chaplin completed his last silent movie,
called Modern Times . The title of the movie itself gives a hint about the changes that human kind
would be facing in the future. While watching the movie, the audience is inundated with the ideas of
dehumanization of humans in the factories, the Fordism ideology, the struggle to earn bread, and many
more. Instead of conveying this powerful social message in harsh and serious tone, Charlie Chaplin
has blended right amount of humor to the social drama. Just because of its satirical humor, Modern
Times is still relevant after almost 70 years since its release and is applauded as the most
accomplished work of Charlie Chaplin. Modern Times , an entertainment masterpiece, is a political
and social commentary about the thriving American industry at the expense of its workers and the
social gap between the rich and the poor.
The opening sequence of Modern Times is humorous and satirical enough to hook up the audience
with the theme of the movie and to alert the audience about the results of exaggerated
industrialization. In the first sequence, the scenes of a herd of ships and the workers heading for the
factory are collocated. Even though the scene seems to be humorous visually, it actually represents the
current scenario of the working class people and the contemporary audience can easily relate the
scene. The symbolism is particularly powerful when one considers

Enter The Void (2010) is a film about a young man, Oscar who lives with his sister in Tokyo, Japan.
He is shot dead by police whilst taking hallucinogenic drugs and becomes trapped in an intermediate
state of existence; his soul drifting high above the streets of the red light district of Tokyo watching

The Role of Information Systems in Business
There are very many types of information systems. Classification of information systems follows the
organizational levels in which they are used or installed for use. For instance, there are management
information systems; some of which will be covered in this project report. Management information
systems (MIS), helps businesses meet their business objectives. Almost all organizations and
businesses today use management information systems; be it large, small, startup or an established
multi national. This is for the sole reason that information systems have evolved from just being a tool
to gain competitive advantage for businesses, to a vital tool, a necessity in the digital age we live in.
Management Information Systems help managers make better informed decisions and communicate
with their superiors, as well as with all the stakeholders in the businesses their organizations are
involved in.
The fact that companies are divided in hierarchical organizational levels, there are information
systems to be used in every other level. Management Information Systems are used by all managers in
all levels of organizations. Operational managers use management information systems, management
level managers do too, and the strategic managers are no exception either. The need for the
information systems, however, varies at every level of the

Use Of Literary Devices In A White Heron
In A White Heron Sarah Orne Jewett really dramatizes Sylvia, the main character through using
several different literary elements. He uses such things as diction, metaphors, imagery, narrative pace
and point of view throughout the story which help the reader stay interested. Jewett s diction was very
out of the ordinary. He used words and sayings that really caught your attention and mostly things you
have not heard before. Jewett describes Sylvia as she is about to mount the great pine tree. He says she
began with tingling, eager blood coursing the channels of her whole frame, with her bare feet and
fingers, that pinched and held like a bird s claws to the monstrous ladder reaching up, up, almost to the
sky itself. Jewett s description here can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, Jewett was saying how the tree seems to be getting longer and longer as Sylvia is going
up and he stated that it was like a great main mast to the voyaging earth. Later, he also states that once
Sylvia passed the last thorny bough and stood high in the tree top that Sylvia s face was like a pale
star. He later said that the hawks grey feathers were as soft as moths. This analogy could really make
us, as readers, understand how soft they looked because almost everyone knows that if you touch a
moth it turns into a dusty substance because of how soft they are. All of these word choices,
metaphors and adjectives Jewett uses makes outstanding imagery for the reader. From the first line to
the last you could picture just about everything, not only picture but feel as if you were there or in the
situation. Jewett almost put an adjective in front of every noun he used, which made it stand out more.
The best imagery Jewett used is when Sylvia reached the top of that tree and he said what she saw.
Jewett stated that there was a sea with the dawning sun making a golden dazzle over it, and toward the
east flew two

Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech...
According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from
a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined
by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of
speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House
(1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct
and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in
the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon
hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select
only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth
(Behrman, A. 2017).
Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract
Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows
us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is
important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise
when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The
first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is
voiced, the

When completing the student to student observation a pre kindergarten classroom was observed. There
were fifteen students in the classroom with a teacher and an aide. The students were divided into three
groups of four and one group of three. The groups where cycling through an art center that integrated
math supervised by the aide, a literacy and history center supervised by the lead teacher and a puzzle
center. At the art center being observed, students were following picture directions to count out the
right number of materials to complete their turkey hats. Then they had to follow the directions with
the aide s help to assemble the hat. When observing the teacher student interactions, it was interesting
to see the personality of the four students come out. Student one seemed to be quiet when interacting
with the teacher. She seemed to not give more than one or two word answers, normally yes or no. She
didn t seem to want the teacher help or to interact with the aide. Student two seemed to be the opposite
of student one. While she stayed on topic, she gave elaborate and over detailed answers to the aide.
She seemed to want the aide to only pay attention to her and wanted constant positive feedback from
the aide. She seems to get upset when the aide starting helping the other children and would try to
direct the attention back to herself. It almost be a sense of learned helplessness. Student three seemed
to be a mix between student one and two. When the aide would

General Bernard Montgomery s Larg Operation Market Garden
The year is 1944, and the Allies are drawing closer to victory everyday. A daring plan arises soon after
the successful invasion of Normandy; this plan, alternatively, ends in disaster. Had everything gone as
the good General Bernard Montgomery had hoped, the war would have been finished by Christmas; a
large blow against the Germans was needed to relieve the troops in Normandy, who were then facing
both German soldiers and difficult, unfamiliar terrain. General Montgomery had devised a plan that
would push the Allies through Holland and past the strongest of Germany s defences. The idea was
simple: the Allied Airborne Division would drop paratroopers in, who would then take eight important
bridges around Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. These troops would then fight through Nazi
controlled Holland and into the heart of Germany, winning the war.
The historic battle of Arnhem was codenamed Operation Market Garden. When it was conceived, the
idea was that a quick strike through Holland and into Germany would be able to end the war and bring
relief to the troops battling through terrain and soldiers in Normandy. The original plan was very much
like the invasion of Normandy: a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Allies made it across the Rhine and into Germany s industrial area. Had the operation been canceled,
the resources could have been diverted elsewhere, and may have been more help at ending the war. As
it is, Operation Market Garden will forever go down as a stain on history; if more intelligence and
time had gone into planning the operation, it could have turned the tide of the war and allowed the

Existentialism In The Renaissance Shakespeare
Centuries before existentialism came into existence there was the Renaissance, a thriving movement
that dealt with matters of man. It taught man to think for and about his own self and not blindly follow
the paths of old. Reality for them was what they saw and not what religion told them to be. Since, like
existentialism, it too based its ideas on an individual, one can say that Renaissance was the first stitch
to the existentialist thinking.
Therefore, this thesis plucks out a character from the most renowned writer of the sixteenth century
i.e. William Shakespeare for its first specimen. Harold Bloom (2003) claims that

Comparing Story Of An Hour And The Interlopers

The Interlopers by Saki. Although when you first look at them both, you could hardly say they have
any comparisons. After all, they re both about completely different subjects! But when you go a bit
deeper, you ll realize that there actually are a few.
The first similarity that I found was that both short stories have two main characters that are both
struggling with each other. In The Interlopers, it s Georg and Ulrich. Their two families are struggling
together in a rather violent way, but this will be explained a bit later. In The Story of an Hour, Mrs.
Mallard is the main character, and her sister, Josephine. This is a bit more difficult to determine the
main characters, as her husband is not mentioned frequently in the story, but he is a main problem. ...

The Development Of Enterprise Risk Management Essay
1.3 The Development of Enterprise Risk Management
This section will briefly discuss the development of ERM especially the emerging factors that
influence companies to shift from TRM to ERM. The researchers will discuss both the academic
literature and the role of professional.
(D Arcy, 2001) proposed that the origin of risk management was developed by a group of innovative
insurance professors Robert I. Mehr and Bob Hedges in 1950s . The objective of risk management at
that time was to maximize the productive efficiency of the enterprise. At that time, risk management
was specifically focused on pure risk and speculative risks.
According to (Skipper Kwon, 2007) , in the 1970s, when the Organization of Petroleum Exporting
Countries decided to reduce production in order to increase the price, financial risk management
became an interesting issue highlighted by firms because the increment in oil price has affected the
stability of exchange rates and the inflation rate .
Later in 1980s, political risks attracted more attention from multinational corporations as a result of
different political regimes in different countries. For example, when the government announced a new
policy, investors and corporations must make decisions to reduce political risk (Skipper Kwon, 2007).
According to (D Arcy, 2001) during that era, organizations did not properly apply risk management
because they did not apply the risk management tools and techniques such as options. Therefore, the

The History And Development Of The Ancient Greek Theatre
Our dramas, plays and theatres today are all originally inspired by the classic Greek theatres. The
classic Greek theatres can be said as the pioneer in theatricals. As early as 700 B.C., ancient Greek
theatre was originated. There are four qualities of ancient Greek theatre which are the occasions for its
performance, competitive element, choral element and the basis of the theatre.
The earliest theatres or dramas were staged during spring to honor the god Dionysus. This festival,
City Dionysia was established by the Athenian ruler named Pisistratus. In Greek mythology, Dionysus
was known as the son of Zeus, the only god who was born by one god and one mortal parent, Semele.
He was also known as the god of wine, fertility and revelry. He was raised by satyrs, killed,
dismembered and was actually reborn. While other gods had temples for themselves, the cult of
Dionysus was hold in the wood. It was believed that he could liberate and inspire man. It was also
believed that he could endow man with divine creativity. Thus, Dionysus was considered as a patron
of arts.
As had been mentioned earlier, the festival, City Dionysia featured competition such as in music,
dance, poetry and singing and prizes were awarded to the winners each year. Actors and playwrights
presented tragedies and comedies during the three days of this festival and they ... Show more content

The earliest example of a circular stage occurs in theatre remains dating back to 330 B.C. Before that
period, stages probably were rectangular and the theatre itself constructed out of wood. Other fixtures
included a large platform on wheels that could be rolled in to show the aftermath of a scene not acted
out in front of the audience, and a device used like a crane to lift actors so they appeared to be floating
in mid air. In some plays this device was used for actors portraying

Harper Lee, The Sentry By Wilfred Owen, And Good Guys Dead...
Countless authors, all throughout time, can be seen to write about their passions, their experiences or
their opinions on a certain topic. The question has been asked: do any of these authors early life
experiences or the time setting when they grew up in have any impact on why the writer developed the
work? A range of authors and texts are being covered in this report and the content will vary from
World War One experiences to more recent times of racial segregation in America. This report has
been formed to answer questions and form relationships between authors and the reason(s) or any
influence(s) as to why the following authors have developed their work: Harper Lee, Wilfred Owens,
Ernest Hemingway. I decided to investigate the following texts: To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee,
The Sentry by Wilfred Owen, To Good Guys Dead by Ernest Hemingway. If the aim is to find out
whether early life experiences of these authors or the time setting when they grew up in promoted or
influenced the development of their work, three questions must be asked for an accurate conclusion to
be drawn: How heavily did the Harper Lee s early life experiences influence her writing? Where there
any government influences that impacted on the authors writing? Why exactly did the author write the
text?
Question one How heavily did the Harper Lee s early life experiences influence her writing?

Rational Expectation Hypothesis Proposed By Lucas ( 1973 )...
According to rational expectation hypothesis proposed by Lucas (1973) and Sargent (1971), economic
participants can make full use of all the information they can get to forecast the future inflation and
will not make systematic mistakes. To be specific, inflation expectations lead to a faster pace of
currency circulation. As inflation expectations rise, people feel that they will suffer losses due to the
weakness of purchase power, and therefore do not want to continue to hold trading and preventive
currency. This will speed up the flow of money, resulting in more money is created in the market and
rising price level. Moreover, inflation expectations often makes people to increase the purchase of real
or financial assets rather than holding the money, considering hedge risk or make investment. As a
result, the monetary supply become overabundance so that promote the rise of price level.
Dotsey and King (1983) implied the aggregate supply and rational expectation theory to explore the
monetary policy. Consequently, they suggest that the supply hypothesis and rational expectation are
conducive to the draft of an activist monetary policy. Therefore, the implementation of the policy of
the central bank should make the general price level changes can be identified by economic agents.
Dotsey and King (1983) state that under the rational expectation assumption, the changes of money
supply response to movements of interest rate can be identified by the agents in the economic

Essay On Veteran Stigma
What do we mean when we say veteran stigma? We don t mean public perception of former service
members.
We mean the stigma of you denying available resources because you don t consider yourself veteran
enough. Here are examples: I m not society s idea of a veteran . I never even deployed.
Look, not everyone is an operator, and you don t have to try to be. Perpetuating and idolizing
unnecessary machismo is a disservice to those who have served. The military industrial complex is an
orchestra, comprised of individuals doing specific jobs that ensure the overall mission progresses. We
understand that you were in administration, or communications, or were a mechanic. We understand
that you were security forces, services, or intelligence operations. We understand that there s ... Show

Embrace the camaraderie you had when you were in, find other veterans like you, and help each other
out! It s no secret that there are too many of us, former brothers and sisters in arms, that have thoughts
of self harm. Standing by without action is a no go and is completely unsat.
We know that being a veteran doesn t define you; you re a person first. But you are veteran for life,
and that comes with a bit of responsibility:
We re creating our own buddy system through our product, so we could look out for each other. We all
know it is more difficult to reflect on our own mental health, than to notice a difference in a buddy s
behavior. We can tell when a buddy is drinking too much or whenever they are in need of help;
whether it is financially, emotionally, or just might need someone to talk to it is always more obvious
to us than them. So quit your bullshit. We re here to help you, and allow yourself to help your
unknown comrade in arms, before we have to contact the honor guard to do another funeral

  • 3. Application Of The Gauss Newton Method As a final example of the application of the Gauss Newton method, we attempted to find the best fit for a set of data with a sinusoidal function. This example illustrates how the Gauss Newton method can applied to functions with more that just two variables, and that it can be applied to an equation of any form. In it, will attempt to model temperature data with a sinusoidal function. Below is a chart of the average high temperatures per month of the city of Monroe Louisiana (courtesy of weather.com). Month Temperature (Fahrenheit) January 56 February 60 March 69 April 77 May 84 June 90 July 94 August 94 September 88 October 79 November 68 December 58 As can be seen by the chart, this data appears to take the form of a sinusoidal function. Therefore, we will try to fit it with the general form of this function, shown below: y(t)=A∗sin(w∗t+phi )+C A is the amplitude, w is the frequency, t is time, phi is the phase and C is a constant. Given this equation there are four unknowns that must be found. In the code, these four variables are represented by the column vector a and are returned in the column vector w. As always, the code requires that we first solve, analytically, for the partial derivatives required for the Jacobian. In this example, the function to be minimized, r, is given by: rk=qk−(a1∗sin(a2∗pk+a3)+a4) where rk is the residual at the particular temperature value, qk is the measured temperature and pk is the month, represented in the code as January = 1, February ... While Hakeem Olajuwon was one the most dominating centers that the NBA has ever seen, the defense usually didn t let him get easy buckets inside the paint. Or at least try not too. The offense that coach Tomjanovich used during the Houston Rockets back to back championships relied heavily on Hakeem s post skills and the ability of their outside shooters to knock down wide open looks. This kind of offense is known as a 4 Out, 1 In Motion Offense and it is probably one of the easiest offenses that a team can use. This takes the defending post player away from the hoop and allows the offense team post player to go 1 on 1 with the defender from the free throw line area. This opens up the inside underneath for back cutters and dribble penetration from the wings and corners. The high post player can also be used as a screener for the perimeter players. This can cause a big time mismatch when the defense decides to start switching the screens. The post player will have a smaller player on him that he can easier post up on or one of the perimeter players will have the post defender on them and should easily take them of the dribble for a bucket. This set can also be used against teams that like to full front the post player. The post player should move up to the high post area. If they are still fronted by the defender they should first seal the defender and then cut to the basket for an over the top lob pass. For a post player that likes to stay down low a team might like to consider using the 4 Low set. It is also used against a defense that has a big, strong inside post defender or shot blocker that the post player can t beat 1 on 1. • 11. The Pros And Cons Of Double Jeeopardy For most people that do not work in the legal world, the topic of law can be a dark unknown labyrinth that makes even the most intelligent individuals feel overwhelmed by the many facets that make up our system of law. Although criminal law and civil law are separate sets of legislation and punishments, they can both be entwined to deliver justice when needed; such as the case with Andrew Fastow, the Enron CFO who was indicted on 78 counts of criminal and civil wrongdoing. ( Enron Fraud, 2017, para. 6) To understand how this could happen without violating Fastow s right to Double Jeopardy, one needs to look closely at criminal and civil laws separately. By doing so, you will see that Double Jeopardy only applies to criminal cases, and not civil. In civil law, a lawsuit filed by a private party can be either from a single person, a company or even the federal government if the lawsuit claims that the Constitutional rights or federal statutes were violated. For example, individuals who utilize government funded Medicaid for medical insurance during a hospital visit and the hospital over bills the government. By doing so they are violating a federal statute, and the government can file a civil lawsuit against the hospital. Additionally, the plaintiff is responsible for proving each element of their claim. (Mallor, Barnes, Bowers, Langvardt, 2012, p. 38) Furthermore, civil cases are typically overheard by a judge unless one or both parties specifically request a jury ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The media reports on subjects that are considered newsworthy. This includes stories that not only could be beneficial to business, but they also report on subjects that put companies in a negative light. This is where the hate relationship comes in. Negative publicity is the last thing that any company wants, and it causes them to put up their defenses against the media. Even though media can have a negative impact on a company, if it is used to its full advantage, it can be a very effective way of getting publicity. Newspapers are always looking for people and things to write about. Radio and television stations are always looking for people to interview and things to talk about. Sometimes, they are held in a higher respect than movies not based on books, especially by those who love books. When a movie adaptation is watched by someone who read the book, the reader has major and specific plot points in mind that need focus, and when those points are not hit, there seems to be an uproar among the community. With Ender s Game, there were mixed reviews. Many disliked how some of the magic seen in the book was lost in translation. Some didn t seem to like how characters were presented or how certain things were brought up with no detail, or not brought up at all. In the movie adaptation of Ender s Game, Orson Scott Card s original idea of Andrew Ender Wiggin, a child genius, becoming a commander of an army in efforts to save the world remains, but with Card s intense adventure and genius depth nearly obliterated from the motion picture, the movie underwhelms with its inabilities to portray the interesting science fiction story in whole. The movie adaptation of Ender s Game avoids portraying as much child violence as the novel. • 23. Essay A P I chose to write about the short story A P. The story takes place in a small town in the late 60 s, in a vacation town of sorts with a general store, few residents. What I received from the setting, was a very low maintenance town where everybody knows everybody (very tight community) most likely old school beliefs and structures (religion, dress code, ethics, morals, ext strict) and for a short time tourists come to live for a while, and in a sense shake up the foundation of the town a bit with their outside beliefs and values. It was not clear what set the manager off but the women were told to quickly pay and leave. During this argument between the primped and polished girls and the old grey dusty store manager Sammy very bravely stands up, from what I believe to impress these women and to show them that he can not only stand up for them but stand up to his superior, risk his job, and make a scene. For What?! Just for them to walk out of the store never to look back, never to show appreciation, and never to see Sammy again. Hell of a first impression if you ask me. But then again the author never explained any past occurrences at the store that might have led to this, and this might have been just the last straw possibly for Sammy. Maybe he was fed up with his work, and he saw the chance to quit and look tough and manly, also make a big stink in front of Queenie and her cronies. (The women in the story) To me this seems very unreasonable to make an ass out of yourself, if it is just for a couple of girls that I m sure in his mind knew he wasn t going to go anywhere ... The title of the movie itself gives a hint about the changes that human kind would be facing in the future. While watching the movie, the audience is inundated with the ideas of dehumanization of humans in the factories, the Fordism ideology, the struggle to earn bread, and many more. Instead of conveying this powerful social message in harsh and serious tone, Charlie Chaplin has blended right amount of humor to the social drama. Just because of its satirical humor, Modern Times is still relevant after almost 70 years since its release and is applauded as the most accomplished work of Charlie Chaplin. Modern Times , an entertainment masterpiece, is a political and social commentary about the thriving American industry at the expense of its workers and the social gap between the rich and the poor. The opening sequence of Modern Times is humorous and satirical enough to hook up the audience with the theme of the movie and to alert the audience about the results of exaggerated industrialization. In the first sequence, the scenes of a herd of ships and the workers heading for the factory are collocated. Even though the scene seems to be humorous visually, it actually represents the current scenario of the working class people and the contemporary audience can easily relate the scene. He uses such things as diction, metaphors, imagery, narrative pace and point of view throughout the story which help the reader stay interested. Jewett s diction was very out of the ordinary. He used words and sayings that really caught your attention and mostly things you have not heard before. Jewett describes Sylvia as she is about to mount the great pine tree. He says she began with tingling, eager blood coursing the channels of her whole frame, with her bare feet and fingers, that pinched and held like a bird s claws to the monstrous ladder reaching up, up, almost to the sky itself. For example, Jewett was saying how the tree seems to be getting longer and longer as Sylvia is going up and he stated that it was like a great main mast to the voyaging earth. Later, he also states that once Sylvia passed the last thorny bough and stood high in the tree top that Sylvia s face was like a pale star. He later said that the hawks grey feathers were as soft as moths. This analogy could really make us, as readers, understand how soft they looked because almost everyone knows that if you touch a moth it turns into a dusty substance because of how soft they are. All of these word choices, metaphors and adjectives Jewett uses makes outstanding imagery for the reader. From the first line to the last you could picture just about everything, not only picture but feel as if you were there or in the situation. Jewett almost put an adjective in front of every noun he used, which made it stand out more. The best imagery Jewett used is when Sylvia reached the top of that tree and he said what she saw. • 30. Resonant Characteristics Of The Acoustic Theory Of Speech... According to the acoustic theory of speech production, what we know to be speech output results from a source of sound energy (e.g. the larynx) modulated by a transfer (filter) function which is determined by the shape of the resonator (vocal tract). This model, often referred to as the source filter theory of speech production, originates from the works of Gunner Fant (1960, 1980) and Stevens and House (1955, 1961) (Haskins Laboratory, Yale University 2008). Source filter theory puts forth two distinct and important ideas; one is that the specific articulatory postures that the vocal tract takes on results in the production of specific sounds, which is why speakers can deduce the shape of the vocal tract upon hearing a speech sound. The other is that while the source may produce a sound, the filter will select only a portion of the harmonics within that sound to be amplified and issued from the mouth (Behrman, A. 2017). Resonant Characteristics of the Vocal Tract Because source filter theory breaks up speech production into the resonator and the source, it allows us the advantage of assessing the contributions of each. When examining the glottal source, it is important to keep in mind its acoustic characteristics. The glottal source, perceived as a buzzing noise when not filtered through a resonator, has a fundamental frequency and corresponding harmonics. The first characteristic to consider would be whether the sound is voiced or voiceless. When a sound is voiced, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 32. General Bernard Montgomery s Larg Operation Market Garden The year is 1944, and the Allies are drawing closer to victory everyday. A daring plan arises soon after the successful invasion of Normandy; this plan, alternatively, ends in disaster. Had everything gone as the good General Bernard Montgomery had hoped, the war would have been finished by Christmas; a large blow against the Germans was needed to relieve the troops in Normandy, who were then facing both German soldiers and difficult, unfamiliar terrain. General Montgomery had devised a plan that would push the Allies through Holland and past the strongest of Germany s defences. The idea was simple: the Allied Airborne Division would drop paratroopers in, who would then take eight important bridges around Eindhoven, Nijmegen and Arnhem. These troops would then fight through Nazi controlled Holland and into the heart of Germany, winning the war. The historic battle of Arnhem was codenamed Operation Market Garden. When it was conceived, the idea was that a quick strike through Holland and into Germany would be able to end the war and bring relief to the troops battling through terrain and soldiers in Normandy. It taught man to think for and about his own self and not blindly follow the paths of old. Reality for them was what they saw and not what religion told them to be. Since, like existentialism, it too based its ideas on an individual, one can say that Renaissance was the first stitch to the existentialist thinking. The Development Of Enterprise Risk Management Essay 1.3 The Development of Enterprise Risk Management This section will briefly discuss the development of ERM especially the emerging factors that influence companies to shift from TRM to ERM. The researchers will discuss both the academic literature and the role of professional. (D Arcy, 2001) proposed that the origin of risk management was developed by a group of innovative insurance professors Robert I. Mehr and Bob Hedges in 1950s . The objective of risk management at that time was to maximize the productive efficiency of the enterprise. At that time, risk management was specifically focused on pure risk and speculative risks. According to (Skipper Kwon, 2007) , in the 1970s, when the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries decided to reduce production in order to increase the price, financial risk management became an interesting issue highlighted by firms because the increment in oil price has affected the stability of exchange rates and the inflation rate . Later in 1980s, political risks attracted more attention from multinational corporations as a result of different political regimes in different countries. For example, when the government announced a new policy, investors and corporations must make decisions to reduce political risk (Skipper Kwon, 2007). The classic Greek theatres can be said as the pioneer in theatricals. As early as 700 B.C., ancient Greek theatre was originated. There are four qualities of ancient Greek theatre which are the occasions for its performance, competitive element, choral element and the basis of the theatre. The earliest theatres or dramas were staged during spring to honor the god Dionysus. This festival, City Dionysia was established by the Athenian ruler named Pisistratus. In Greek mythology, Dionysus was known as the son of Zeus, the only god who was born by one god and one mortal parent, Semele. He was also known as the god of wine, fertility and revelry. He was raised by satyrs, killed, dismembered and was actually reborn. While other gods had temples for themselves, the cult of Dionysus was hold in the wood. It was believed that he could liberate and inspire man. It was also believed that he could endow man with divine creativity. Thus, Dionysus was considered as a patron of arts.
