Main Tests Required for Pursuing Studies Abroad
GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
• Required by: Graduate schools and departments.
• Purpose: GRE scores are used to assess the suitability of applicants for graduate-level study across many different subject areas.
Some departments may ask applicants to take one of the GRE Subject Tests, while others require the General Test. The Subject
Tests assess knowledge in a particular field, while the General Test assesses verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning and
analytical writing.
• Duration: Around three hours and 45 minutes (six sections with a 10-minute break after the third).
• Test content: The GRE General Test (formerly the GRE revised General Test) is divided into three parts Verbal Reasoning,
Quantitative Reasoning & Analytical Writing.
• Cost: US$205 everywhere except China, where it is $220.70.
• Valid for: Five years. (https://www.ets.org/gre/)
TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language)
• Required by: Institutions offering programs in English. TOEFL results are also accepted as proof of English language proficiency
in countries where this is required to obtain a visa.
• Purpose: To test proficiency in English.
• Duration: Around four hours and 30 minutes, with a mandatory 10-minute break midway through.
• Test content: The test is divided into four parts: Reading, Listening, Speaking &Writing.

obtain a visa. (Australia and all European countries)
• Purpose: To test a proficiency in English, for an academic or general context.
• Duration: Two hours and 30 minutes, plus 15 minutes for the speaking test.
• Test content: There are two versions of the test: IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training. Both are divided into four sections,
with the same content for the Listening and Speaking sections, but different Reading and Writing sections. The Academic
version focuses more on English in a higher education context, while General Training focuses more on workplace and social
situations.
• Cost: Varies depending on location. (India Rs 11300)

Jobs for M. Pharmacy Graduates
Medicinal Chemistry: Chemical R & D (API)
• Drug Design or Drug Discovery by Synthetic (Chemicals) or Natural Products.
• Develop novel molecules through chemical reactions, followed by
purification through column or flash chromatography & analyze them via
spectroscopic methods like Mass, NMR etc.
Pharmaceutics: Formulation R n D & DMPK
• Making the produced bulk into a formulation form like capsule or tablet or
into Nanoparticles (NDDS), it can be called as a derivative of Manufacturing
branch.
• Incase of DMPK, you study the developed chemical molecule’s
pharmacokinetic profiling through LC-MS, LC-MS/MS (Biopharmaceutics)
etc.
Pharmaceutical Analysis: Quality Control
• QC is a department which is involved in Analytical research and Quality
team.
• Analytical research team develop new method validation methods for the
samples. Quality control team tests for the purity of the samples produced
or given.
Pharmaceutical Analysis: Analytical R & D
Basically Analytical R & D is split into 4 categories:
1. Method development
2. Routine method development
3. Method Validation
4. Development stability department
• When a new product comes to picture, one has to find a method to analyze it. So,
it is the responsibility of method development person to develop method to
analyze the formulation product.
• Method is developed for dissolution (either UV or HPLC), Assay (same assay
method will be used for content uniformity, blend uniformity, etc.) and related
substances.
• Once the method is developed to identify the drug present in the formulation.
The method is checked by validation and simultaneously the product is subjected
to stability meanwhile.
• Meanwhile, the formulation development department works in optimization of
the drug by changing the level of excipients in it. Every time they change
something, a new batch is generated for testing - which would be eventually
analyzed by routine development group, who should follow the method created
by method development team.
Pharmaceutical Analysis: Quality Assurance
• Assurance whether all the process and other department are working
with GMP and company's policy.
• Each department will have a separate QA personnel.
Regulatory and Patenting Department
• They are mostly involved in legal operations of the company,
registering a new drug with the regulatory bodies.

Development stability department • When a new product comes to picture, one has to find a method to analyze it. So, it is the responsibility of method development person to develop method to analyze the formulation product. • Method is developed for dissolution (either UV or HPLC), Assay (same assay method will be used for content uniformity, blend uniformity, etc.) and related substances. • Once the method is developed to identify the drug present in the formulation. The method is checked by validation and simultaneously the product is subjected to stability meanwhile. • Meanwhile, the formulation development department works in optimization of the drug by changing the level of excipients in it. Every time they change something, a new batch is generated for testing - which would be eventually analyzed by routine development group, who should follow the method created by method development team.
