2015 US digital future in focus - Comscore - 26 March 2015Romain Fonnier
The digital world achieved enormous progress in 2014 as several transformative changes shaped how Americans interacted with technology and consumed media. Perhaps more so than at any other time in recent memory, changes were not merely incremental but rather seemed to represent key inflection points in the evolution of various markets and behaviors. We saw platforms collide in ways that upended existing markets, reconfigured the economics of various industries, and suggested that we are embarking on a new era of digital that will look markedly different from its predecessor.
Consider some of the digital milestones of 2014 and what they suggest about the future. This was the year that:
Mobile app usage exploded on its way to becoming the majority of all digital media activity.
Leading publishers saw mobile revenues surpass desktop revenues, signaling a shift towards mobile as the primary digital media platform.
Traditional TV ratings saw pronounced declines as Americans’ viewing habits time-shifted and moved to emerging platforms.
Digital advertising went through a challenging but important transition to transacting on impressions that are actually seen by people.
In this report, we will examine some of the most important sectors of the digital media ecosystem to show how the landscape has changed, who is leading the way, and what it all means for the year ahead – and beyond. It is an exciting time in digital and we hope this exploration of today’s key issues helps put the Digital Future in Focus.

The 2015 U.S. Mobile App Report by ComScoreVictor Kong
Digital media time in the U.S. has exploded recently – growing nearly 50 percent in the past two years, with more than three-fourths of that growth directly attributable to the mobile app. Mobile has grown so fast that it’s now the leading digital platform, with total activity on smartphones and tablets accounting for 62 percent of digital media time spent, and apps alone now representing the majority of digital media time at 54 percent.
Why have apps become such a powerful force in our daily media lives? The power of habit. The 2015 U.S. Mobile App Report explores the dynamics of mobile media consumption, audiences, and user habits to understand what’s behind this surge in mobile activity, and how publishers and advertisers can take advantage.

Whitepaper - A Consumer Cloud Solution - White Label or BuildJ.D. Bryant
The momentum continues to build in a technology-rich society where consumers are the drivers. Lifestyle standards are changing at an accelerating speed. Global businesses need to keep up with the pace to remain players in their industry. The personal cloud is predicted to replace PCs for the majority of consumer content storage needs. Only 7 percent of digital content was stored in the personal cloud in 2011 and expected to reach 36 percent as early as 2016. The choice to enter the consumer cloud space is to buy or build. A white label consumer cloud offer is an ideal solution for businesses to enter the cloud market with minimal financial risks. It is designed to increase market share opportunities and help with customer retention. If a company buys or builds, the fact remains that harnessing the cloud is a requirement in order to compete in times ahead.
Enabling best practice Web experiences for today's increasingly Mobile world: This white paper explores why a Web Content Management solution that’s not optimized for ‘customers in motion,’ could be the deal breaker for customer engagement. Find out how innovative approaches to WCM can keep your company aligned with customer expectations in a mobile world.
2012 was another milestone year in the life of mobile as
continued innovation in hardware, software and device
functionality lays the groundwork for the future of the

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
4. Super-Sized Smartphone is here to stay
According to the latest findings from market research firm
Juniper Research, annual phablet unit shipments reached
nearly 20 million in 2013, and are expected to rise to 120
million by 2018.
Source: http://bgr.com/2014/02/03/phablet-sales-forecast/
5. Predictions
This massive 500% increase will be driven primarily by
markets in East Asia and China, where gamers and content
streamers will be looking for larger screens.
And with Apple entering the market those numbers should
increase in North America and Europe.

8. Spandex Pockets
No matter which devices ignite the most interest among consumers, phablets should continue to see
significant growth for many years to come.
It might be time to start expanding those pockets on our blue jeans once again.

9. Redefine what is computing
“We are in the midst of a dramatic recasting of the entire market for devices,”
said Bill O’Donnell - Founder and Chief Analyst of TECHnalysis Research.
“...it’s leading to a complete redefinition of what computing is, what computing means and
where computing happens.
It’s safe to say that the world of computing and intelligent devices will look very
different in 5 years compared to what it is today.”

10. Tablet Impact
● Consumers are keeping their tablets, especially higher-cost
models from major vendors, far longer than originally
anticipated.
● Passing their existing tablet off to another member of the family.
● The rise of phablets are causing many people to second-guess
tablet purchases as the larger screens on these phones are often
adequate for tasks once reserved for tablets."

11. Phablet Shipments Double
In the past year alone, the phablet share of smartphone shipments
has more than doubled, from 4.3% in the first quarter of 2013 to
10.5% in the first quarter of this year, representing 30.1 million units
shipped.
Expectations:
● market to rebound by shifting its focus back toward larger-screened devices.
● Products with larger screens--like Microsoft's new 2-in-1, the 12-inch Surface Pro
3— are expected to play a greater role in the market going forward."
Source: http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?
containerId=prUS24890514
12. Larger Screens
"The shift back toward larger screens will mark a welcome sea
change for most vendors as the average selling price for these
devices will remain roughly 50 percent higher than the average sub-
8-inch device," said Jitesh Ubrani, Research Analyst, Worldwide
Quarterly Tablet Tracker. "Microsoft is also expected to benefit from
this shift as the share for Windows-based devices is expected to
double between now and 2018."
Source: http://www.idc.com/getdoc.jsp?
containerId=prUS24890514
13. Phablet share will double by 2018
This year, phablets are forecast to represent just 14 percent of the
smartphone market, but their share will be more than double in
2018, when it will reach 32.2 percent.
Of course, with Apple getting in the game, phablet shipments
could accelerate even faster.

14. Drop in Average Selling Price
"While consumers in places like the United States and Western
Europe are likely to own a combination of PCs, tablets, and
smartphones, in many places the smartphone -- regardless of
size -- will be the one connected device of choice", says IDC.
Fueled by the drop in theAverage selling prices of smartphones and
phablets, from $320 and $568, respectively, in 2013 to $291 and
$397, respectively, this year.

15. Affordability and Satisfaction
This gives more consumers the chance to afford a
smartphone; it can be a more satisfactory purchase
than, a desktop PC or tablet, for those with tight
budgets.

16. Best Fit for the Consumer
“...consumers are still trying to figure out what mix of devices and
screen sizes will suit them best", according to IDC program vice
president Tom Mainelli.
"What works well today could very well shift tomorrow as
phones gain larger screens, tablets become more powerful
