A personal statement is a written description of a candidate's achievements and interests used when applying to university or college. It allows the candidate to showcase their skills and why they are suitable for a specific course. When writing a personal statement, candidates should avoid mentioning specific universities and focus on their relevant qualifications and experiences. There is a recommended structure including paragraphs on interest in the course, relevant experience, and a conclusion explaining why the candidate is well-suited for the program. The document describes the author's process of drafting, revising with feedback, and finalizing their personal statement.

Report Overview
In this assignment, you will
Document and reflect on your university education and on learning experiences outside of the university;
Articulate how your upper-level coursework is an integrated and individualized curriculum built around your interests; and
Highlight the experiences, skills, and projects that show what you can do.
A successful report submission will be the product of many hours of work over several weeks.
A report earning maximum available points will be a carefully curated and edited explanation of your work that provides tangible evidence of—and insights into—your competencies and capabilities over time. In each section of this report, you are (1) telling a story about your own abilities, and (2) providing specific examples and evidence that illustrate and support your claims.
✍
Required Report Sections
Here the sections are listed as they must appear in your final graded submission. You’ll arrange the sections in this order when
submitting
the final report BUT you won’t follow this order when
writing
drafts of each section.
Note that each section description contains a Pro Tip that tells you how to proceed with the work – what to attempt first, second, and third, etc.
❖ I. Statement of Purpose ❖
Step 1.
Read these four very different
examples of successful Statement of Purpose sections
.
Step 2.
Consider the differences in tone, style, level of detail etc. Your own statement of purpose may resemble one of these. Indeed, writing a first draft based on an example or combination of examples is a good idea. BUT don’t let these examples limit your thinking or personal expression. You may want to begin with a quote from a famous person, use a quote from your mom, or skip the quote. You may want to discuss your personal motivations or get right down to the facts. You may want to list your classes or discuss how your work-life led you to this path.
Step 3.
Write a rough draft – let’s call that Statement of Purpose 1.0. Write Statement of Purpose 1.0 as quickly as you can and then put it away until after you have completed most of the report. Forget about Statement of Purpose 1.0 until most of your report is at least in draft form.
Step 4.
Once you have a draft of all sections of your report, you are in a good position to revise Statement of Purpose 1. You are ready for Step 4. Take Statement of Purpose 1.0 out its dusty vault and hold it up to the sun. Ah. Now read your report draft and compare it to the claims you made in Statement of Purpose 1.0. Ask yourself these questions:
Does Statement of Purpose 1.0. accurately introduce my report?
Are there important ideas or representative experiences in the report that should be highlighted in the Statement of Purpose but aren’t? Remember this isn’t a treasure hunt where its your reader’s job to figure out what matters. It’s your job to show the reader what matters.
If Statement of Purpose 1.0. isn’t the best map it can be for th.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

2. Personal Statements
A personal statement is a written description of the
your achievements and interests. Personal
statements are often used when applying for
university or college. Your personal statement is the
candidates chance to show the university who you
are, and why you would be a good applicant to the
specific course that you are applying for. In your
personal statement you will talk about your skills, past
experiences and different opportunities that you have
experienced.
When writing your personal statement it is important
that you avoid mentioning any specific universities,
this is due to the fact that only one personal
statement is to be wrote and generalise the course
that you are doing. A personal statements key role is
to showcase yourself and why you would be suitable
for the course..
As said previously you should avoid mentioning
specific universities as your personal statement will
no longer appeal to the other universities that you
have applied for if you have applied for multiple.
There is also a specific structure that should be
followed when writing a personal statement, this
should be as followed:
20XX presentation title 2
First paragraph- Introduction
• Explain why your interested in the course
• Show your passion for the career pathway it would
lead to
• How would the course support your future
Second Paragraph- The Course
• What skills you have gained from your course and
how
that helped in choosing the university course
• Mention different topics/ units tat are relevant to
your
degree
Third Paragraph- Work experience/ Placement
• Discuss skills that you have developed through
different,
placements and work experience
• Give details of the placements and how you
gained skills
relevant to your chosen degree
Fourth Paragraph- Other Experience/ about yourself
• Volunteering/ employment/ fundraising
• Skills and different skills that have been gained
throughout these experiences- show relevance to
the chosen degree
Fifth Paragraph- Conclusion
3. 20XX presentation title 3
FIRST DRAFT
When uploading my first draft of my
personal statement, I hadn’t fully
completed the structure of my first
draft. I then sent this draft to my
lecturer to gain some improvement
feedback on my first draft. In this
draft I had included more information
about how my part time job had
helped me gain skills rather than my
course. I also didn’t include enough
information about why I would be the
best candidate for the chosen
degree in my conclusion. I also had
to condense a paragraph to make
sure I stayed in the character limit.
Lecturer feedback
4. 20XX presentation title 4
This is the second draft of my
personal statement which I
checked thoroughly through each
paragraph with my lecturer to
ensure that I was including the
right information that would be
needed. However in my
conclusion I had still not put into
enough detail on my conclusion
and why the university should
chose me. I then received
feedback from my lecturer and
how to improve that paragraph.
Although it was the similar
feedback off the previous draft I
received support from them in
class. When considering the past
feedback I received I condensed
down a few of the paragraphs and
spoke more about my course
rather than my job.
SECOND DRAFT
Lecturer
Feedback
5. 20XX presentation title 5
After taking into my feedback I added more detail to
my conclusion to allow universities to see why I am
the right candidate for my chosen degree and make
it sound more catered to my course. This allowed
me to complete my third and final draft, taking out
irrelevant information that as taking up my character
limit. Once I had gone through it with my tutor and
lecturer to ensure that it was up to standard. As well
as this improvement I also added more relevant
information to my fourth paragraph to appeal more
to my chosen universities.
FINAL DRAFT
